Good advice. Apples to apples (pun not intended) more people are likely to get good results out of OS (because it is more rigidly controlled resulting in less variety but enhanced core capability). But both platforms have excellent phones across the fist spectrum and Samsung is as good as it gets for Android. _________________ “We must always take sides. All the flagships perform similarly. They're all going to be sharp (for a phone) and the differences are usually along the lines of one being a little more bright or another being slightly better for night photos/videos. Honestly, if you're not a pixel peeper, they're all great. _________________ KOBE

How much of a difference do you think there is in the camera/video of these two models vs a 2017 Note 8? Seems like camera improvements are increasingly incremental. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

I'm not a phone expert, but I could tell you that if the camera is really that important to you, you shouldn't be looking at a 5 year old phone. The photo and video capturing quality is going to be significantly different between current iterations and something that is 4-5 years old. One big advancement in the more recent years is the ability to take better quality photos despite less-than ideal lighting. You won't get that out of a 2017 model.
If you're were talking about iPhone 13 vs iPhone 12, then yeah, probably not going to be a whole lot different unless you needed to have the absolute latest tech.

The camera hardware is noticeably better if you put them side by side but not day and night.
The software with AI based hdr will blow your mind. Phones can see better in the dark - especially colors - than you can now.

If you’re considering an older phone, definitely iPhone. The 6S from 2015 still has the latest OS update. Samsung does 3 years for their 2019 and newer phones, and supposedly 4 years for the ones releasing this year.

Just the new models for me. Samsung discontinued updates for the Note 8, which is lame because it was otherwise working fine still. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

There was a great deal from Samsung directly for the S22 Ultra. They were giving really high trade in values. For my Note 20 Ultra 5G, they were giving me $950 for it (a LOT higher than what I could get for it selling on ebay) and were giving a free upgrade to 256gb. All told with EPP discount it was around $250 + tax on the full amount plus they were giving $200 credit for a future purchase. The high trade ins are still currently available but no future credit. _________________ KOBE

Wife has the iPhone 12
I'm still enjoying my S10+ with the pixel camera app.
Not quite as good as today's phones but the pixel camera app gets you into the AI hdr.

Only $120 for the Note 8. How are you liking the S22 ultra? Why did you pick it over the 13 Pro Max?
