Darvin Ham is supposedly really good with developing bigs, look at the Impact he’s had on Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis the last 2 years, the more you think about it the more you get excited at the possibility of Ham coaching this team, this FO loves bigs.

Unless they’re McGee or Dwight.

He’s my guy. He’s the equivalent of getting Udoko or Kidd as assistants.

If Ham becomes the HC, he needs to convince really knowledgeable guys like Sam Cassell and Steve Clifford to join his staff

So hire the coach according to the roster?
As opposed to getting the coach and then getting the players that fit the coach's vision?
(I'm not saying one or the other is correct, Im just confirming that's what you meant)

Usually you can go either way but currently, we have this Westbrook issue that is out of our control. Are you sure we can trade Westbrook for "players that fit the coach's vision"? To me, the first thing to do is to trade Westbrook for the best package and then find the right coach for the new roster.

I like the idea of Ham with good assistants.

We need a coach the players will respect. Need someone that is not afraid to step up to stars. Let the assistants come up with the defense and offense. Coach needs to be the people person that motivates these guys. Wouldn't mind Rondo back as an assistant, clifford, kenny a, keep handy.

Stealing 1 of Kenny Atkinson or Steve Clifford to join Ham’s or Griffin’s staff would be great, we almost got Vogel to join Lue’s staff.

Can we change the title to this to like "Lakers Coaching Search and News" or some thing along the lines of that, where we could talk about potential coaches. News on the coaches they are potentially gonna interview. I didn't wanna make a whole new thread. Why not just use this thread, since it is about a coach Lakers are gonna interview.

My #1 coaching choice would be Adrian Griffin. There is news that they are gonna interview him.

Anyway, Nurse ain't happening which is the dream hire. Snyder seems like he might be out of Utah but with him getting surgery, perhaps that might delay any sort of decision in Utah and what they do. Other than Ham, nobody else excites me. But there is something about Ham that reminds me of Monty Williams.. perhaps it's the energy and communication style but he seems very well loved and respected by his teams.

I like his intellect, confidence, team minded, levity, and experience. That press cofenernce in 2nd link is a good watch. If they interview him and love him, I hope they move quick and not wait for Snyder and lose Ham to Hornets (potentially).

Preferably, a HC should be hired for his leadership and organizational skills.

He then hires a staff to work on a vision of both defensive and offensive systems. They teach and motivate you the players to run those basic systems at the higher level they are capable of doing so.

The GM then provides players that can excel in these roles.

I said preferably!

Not sure how a HC is supposed to do his job in the Lakers situation. He has a foundation of expensive players that don’t fit together and are stuck in doing things “their way”. The players are aging, oft injured or lack the motivation to compete for a full 48mins.

Add to that limited assets to change the roster in any meaningful ways.

Ham, Griffin, or whoever eventually takes the job will have his work cut out for him. Dr Phil is probably a better choice if to manage the egos and circus atmosphere that surrounds this roster.

I second this. Can OP or an admin please change the thread title?

I don't know, but I would go with the best candidate, not what Lebron and Rich Paul says; whether that be Darvin Ham or someone else.

Im glad they are trying to find someone new. The good coaches are already all taken, and i definitely dont want the names that have been thrown around. Are they competent to find the next Udoka, Nurse, Monty, thats another question.

Udoka, Monty teams are stacked nurse had a stacked team and now has a young up and coming team.

According to SAS we have star players with zero trade value.

We suck.

Stephen A? Why even quote him?

And while they have good teams also (no one wins with (bleep) teams), they are good young coaches as well. My point is it's hard to pry a already established coach, you need to try and find your own

I know that you have a lower view of Lebron and AD than 99.9% of the world but for anyone to suggest they have zero trade value is an enormous stretch.

What SAS said is that ADs value is not what it was 2 years ago (duh) due to injuries he is seen as not the same value so you won't get what you are looking for. WB no one is touching unless they want to send back horrendous longterm contracts to us and that leaves Lebron who SAS thinks is the best guy to get value from trade wise, according to people he spoke with.

I agree in theory, Lebron if he gets you 1 late FRP and a young starter is probably in Lakers best interests to do this for the longrun, but we're not going there unless Lebron demands it which he won't.
