You mean to tell me Rob couldn’t pull off a deal for him/other or are they still deciding which of the 5 masterminds holds the bathroom key!

Absolutely ridiculous!!!

There is a thing called “Lakers tax”. Lakers always have to pay more than other teams. If the Rockets dealt with the Lakers, Rockets would have asked for more than the Mavs. Because a lot of teams…don’t like the Lakers.

Not really a hard concept to grasp.

Honestly, I would say both sides won. It's not so bad for Houston. They'll likely be adding Banchero or Chet with that #2 pick next week, so they needed to unload Wood anyways. The FRP was the best possible outcome. Very valuable. Lakers would probably draft another Hart or Kuzma with that pick.

In reality, the Lakers could not match that offer.

Lakers’ FRP is already gone. And it is questionable they could put together a player package to match. The ever popular THT/ Nunn package might match dollars wise, but no pick means no deal.

It sucks, but the current Lakers have very little to offer in any trade.

i find it hilarious how some Laker fans assume that the Lakers are so powerful, that they can control and make another team trade us what we want, for what we want. "How come the Lakers couldn't make this deal"...........because maybe Houston said NO!

We really need to get over ourselves. No team WANTS to help the Lakers, unless its tipped in their own favor. Some teams would take a lesser deal, just to spite the Lakers.

I agree with both of these comments. The Rockets probably don't want THT and Nunn. They have lots of guards. If we threw in the '27 pick, and the Rockets took it, that would be an awful trade for us. We'll end up with fewer assets with none of our real needs addressed, and we'd get a big man of questionable value (he is now on his seventh team) who will be looking for a new contract next summer.

Goes to show that draft picks are super valuable around the league esp to a rebuilding team like Houston.

I don't think Wood would solve many issues for the Lakers but he could end up like Dinwiddie and play really well for the Mavs.

I agree with majority of replies, mostly other teams don’t wanna make us any better. But, this years FA’s IMO are horrible & I don’t think THT’s game will get much better next year or he fits while LBJ is here with turned into lackadaisical AD, not even mentioning Russ.

Nunn is not a wing & while Stanley & Gabriel had their small moments, we need to acquire another wing for one of TNT or Nunn. I don’t think someone is going to help us out & Grant & others are too expensive with Russ on team. I think Porter Jr is highly overrated.

Hopefully we can play AD at PF & he is motivated like year one, IMO it starts there & then RUN a OFFENSE with ball MOVEMENT like last 2 games without LBJ hogging the ball for a ridiculous last second fade away 3 from 30 feet. 😡

Effort & hustle on defense & rebounding & we’re better off. Just seems like the players didn’t respond to Frank last year & of course he was the scapegoat. Ham should at least have control for first two months to see if old heads respond to team work & sacrifice. Lastly don’t wear out old guys playing them entire quarters or 10 minutes in a row.

I'm not crying over missing out on Woods.

But that Russ trade effectively ended the LBJ/AD contention window IMO, and really hamstrung us trade-wise as we have 47m in cap space tied up to a player probably at best, is worth MMLE to MLE. We don't have any assets really to trade.

Imagine if you still had KCP, Kuz, AC, player drafted with 22nd pick to use as trade pieces now (or better yet, to keep).

The so-called "lakers tax is" not true if you think about how we got Gasol. It is more about the incompetence of our front office.

How is it a Lakers tax when we put all our chips on the table most recently for Russ.

We took KCP/Kuz/Trezz/player selected with 22nd pick, and arguably Caruso off the table.

It's not particularly him, but shows you can probably get some starting level players for low 1st round picks. Unfortunately we have none.

Wood, I think would fit well in Ham's 1-4 offense as he can space the floor and also start the sets inside and come out and be a 3 point shooter. What they need are guys that can get inside (the 1) and finish plays there or end up outside (the 4 other guys) and be a 3 ball threat. In this regard, Wood fits Lebron/AD and the 1-4 offense very well.

But his D? Yuck. I miss having 2-way guys like KCP, Caruso, Green etc.

If we had our draft pick this year, #8 overall, would you trade the pick for veterans like Christian Wood?

Yes, that was the downfall of basically tearing down a Championship team.

One of my hang ups is Dr. Buss had no problem paying the tax to have the best possible team in 80’s. Well, sure it’s decades later but the Lakers bring a lotta $$$$$$$$ to Jeanie & she continues to be a cheap skate? 🤨

I don’t expect Rob to fix the mess he & LBJ created & all the youth & picks we lost, so is he the guy or will she dump him once LBJ retires & we suffer through 20 win seasons until we recover? Part of me wants the Buss family to sell team but I think their ego’s won’t allow that.

Y'all don't have a 1st that can convey anytime soon, to go with no incoming salary coming back. And y'all have no interest in giving up the future picks you have. This isn't a Laker tax example.

OMG, that defense. I was thinking, man you can make a low-light reel for anyone, but let's check it out. But then that thread kept going and going. Haha. So it's not just some edge case, but is more of the norm. Pulling his hands back like he was in foul trouble.

Hey Dream, I was reading a Rockets thread and the fans didn't seem like they wanted CWood. Was that the case?

So other than running into the ground the pointless debate on why or why not the Lakers should or shouldn't have made this trade, this thread has absolutely nothing to do with the Lakers.

I get it, the off-season is boring. Go outside and play some pickle ball or horse shoes or some (bleep) like that instead of wasting time talking about (bleep) that doesn't matter.
