1986-87: Magic/Worthy/KAJ, with Byron/AC/Coop/Thompson off the bench. I think this is such a versatile and deep team.

2000-01: Shaq/Kobe. Nuff' said with that dynamic duo.

1984-85: younger version of that 86-87 team (in terms of Magic/Worth/KAJ).

2009-10: Kobe/Pau, with really strong role support in guys like Odom, Artest, Fisher, Bynum, etc. Nostalgically, one of my favorite teams, especially b/c we beat the Celtics.

1981-82: an earlier iteration of Showtime with Nixon/Wilkes joining Magic/KAJ.

1971-72: an aging Wilt, but dominant duo of West/Goodrich in the backcourt.

My personal top two (in order) are the 1986-87 squad, then 2000-01.

What are yours, and am I missing some?

87 Lakers all day long. GOAT champions:

87 Lakers
01 Lakers
17-18 Dubs
86 Celtics
96 Bulls

In that order

The defense from Chicago though is for sure the greatest defensive team ever. That high press turned a 60 win Orlando team that made the finals a year prior into looking like a JV team that could barely bring the ball up halfcourt.

because of this, i think that's why 87 gets taken a notch. i dont recall anyone outside of magic and coop that could handle the ball. 91 and pip's defense showed why magic wasn't going to be successful.

that's why 01 is the team for me that could take out those bulls. kobe, harp, fish, bshaw, lue, and fox all could handle the ball. and horry, dgeorge, and rider to lesser degree could also handle the ball when trapped. and plus, 01 knew the trapping schemes as they mirrored the 96 traps. and most importantly, 01 had an older more experienced pj, who definitely could handle the 96 bulls of pj and mj. rodman is not stopping shaq; he'd be too busy with grant and horry. 01 is the GOAT

2000-2001, Shaq was the most dominant force I have seen in the league. That playoff run is legendary. The fact that they somewhat coasted during the regular season and people said they were done made the playoffs more special.

The dismantling of the Spurs that year in the WCF was like watching a cheetah take down a gazelle. And Kobe was brilliant that series.

Kobe owned the Spurs in the that series. I miss those days!

Didn’t D-Fish come back from injury in the spurs series after missing most of the year and go like 15-20 from 3-point land? He was on fire this series.

Fisher came back to end the season and start the run.

Yes he shot 75% from three versus the spurs to sweep them, so you died if you were them and doubled Kobe and Shaq.

Fish also played on a fractured foot in the finals and dunked on Iverson lol.

Did I mention that in the close out games of the 4 series, fisher averaged 21 points per game that run?

A few times on YouTube I read comments from fans confident that the 2001 Milwaukee Bucks would beat that 2001 Laker team. They say Milwaukee swept the season series and had a much tougher offense to stop than the Sixers offense.

I’m biased towards the 86-87 Laker team because, that’s the team that made me become a lakers fan.

The 2009 title team was so much fun.

That 2001 team played at the highest level that I have ever seen. That team was so locked in and dominant. The only undefeated playoff road team in NBA history

Yup any team that can beat the 96 Bulls first has to be able to easily break the trap defense. You compare 96 Orlando to 87 Lakers. Peak Magic vs Peak Penny is not as lopsided as you think when you consider speed, athleticism, ballhandling and ability to break the press. In fact, as blasphemous as it may seem, in many aspects Hardaway was better in certain aspects (speed and athleticism) and those of us that remember Magic and Hardaway remember how good a peak Hardaway was (first team point guard who at the time in 1996 was considered better or equal to Payton and for sure better than Stockton). Than you compare Nick Anderson to Byron Scott. Scott gets the slight edge ballhandling wise but he was no great handler for his position either and he was extremely right hand dominant. Byron was the better player overall but not by much as Nick was a bigger more physical defender and a 38-40% three ball shooter. Watching Worthy dribble (as well as shoot 3s) was not a good experience and was not one of his strong suits to put it lightly. Ditto 3D Dennis Scott who was inferior to Worthy in most aspects except 2, 1 of which he was vastly superior to Worthy: 3 pt shooting and ball handling of which both were pretty bad. 96 Horace Grant is superior to 87 AC Green end of story even though Horace did get injured in the ECF vs Bulls. 96 Shaquille is better than 87 Cap. Bench of the Magic is primarily Brian Shaw, Donald Royal and Jon Koncak whereas the Lakers have primarily Cooper, Rambis and Thompson. 1987 Lakers are vastly superior bench-wise but in terms of additional ball-handlers its Cooper vs Shaw and the one area (probably the only area) Shaw is superior to Cooper is ball-handling

Thats cute....the 09 Magic won both games vs the Lakers and what happened in the finals????? This is cute and stupid at the same time.

^Funny that reminds me I was worried about the Magic and one reason
was the regular season matchups. I wasn’t sure if Cleveland or Orlando would be the easier opponent. The 2009 Lakers got home court against the Magic, but did better in the regular season against the Cavs.

People are right that Milwaukee had a much better offense and a lot more weapons than the Sixers. And they had Ray Alllen in his prime. I did see people argue Milwaukee was a tough matchup for LA too.

But the Bucks were much weaker defensively. The Sixers were able to just play Mutombo against Shaq and he couldn’t stop Shaq but he did about as well as anybody could and didn’t need to flop like Vlade. The Bucks would have to double Shaq or he would kill them. And if they doubled him the other players would kill them.

It’s an interesting and a very different matchup but picking the Bucks is crazy. Also the 2001 Lakers struggled in the regular season against Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio and Philadelphia too and dominated all those teams in the postseason.
