Any indications that a center prospect will be added?

Lakers need some legit center depth. Getting a project would be a nice start.

They should take a look at Kofi Cockburn, Orlando Robinson, Trevion Williams and Kai Sotto.

That makes me so mad. Thereโ€™s actually still some names out there for Center. Theyโ€™re not interested in a single one?

Weโ€™re just gonna sign old ass 33 year old+ Centers again arenโ€™t we?

I wonder if signing Pippen means we aren't doing any business with Charlotte anytime soon.

I'm actually surprised they didn't sign him to be honest, but I'm really high on Cole Swider, so I'm happy we picked him up.

Dang! Blazers stocking up. They are doing a good job with their acquisition towards fit.

Fortunately Dame is past his peak.
If this team will do anything, it'll be when Simons is the leading man.
And fortunately as well, he's as sorry a defender as Dame.

Scotty Pippen Jr (6'3" 185 lbs) was a good value pick (I actually had him ranked 47th above Christie's 51st). Of course, though, if there was a trend worth monitoring in this year's draft, it's how all the small guards with average gravity at best all slid (TyTy, Kennedy Chandler, etc). It's funny, I actually had Pippen ranked higher last year than this year, and last year scouts told him to go back to school.

Pippen really has a knack for creating havoc on offense through drawing fouls, and on defense with a really high steal rate. But I think scouts can't reconcile his just OK passing with a spiffy overall shot, which might limit his at-rim forays, and on defense he's too small and might be a straight up gambler. Is he an impact guy at this level? Likely not, but considering only 25-30 players excel in any given draft, and you got the 47th value as undrafted, that's still a reasonable outcome.

Swider and Shareef likely wouldn't cut any top 100 big board. For Swider, Syracuse guys just don't translate that well to the league, and he didn't quite cut it in Villanova. He's just a 6'9" shooter. Isn't that Kyle Wiltjer, or Kyle Singler? It feels quite uninspired. I would say, that replacing Mason Jones and Jay Huff with Pippen and Swider doesn't feel that good either. Jones and Huff were two guys who actually ranked somewhat well as 2nd rounders (Pippen came lower than both of them).

So, I guess overall...eh. We need to poach some of the Grizzlies' drafting team, that was an inspired draft for them.

Unbelievable. (bleep) this current front office. All that for nothing. This kid is gonna see ZERO playing time because we have 10 thousand guards and zero wings.

Iโ€™ve never been so mad at a 2nd pick before. But they created a new low here. (bleep) this team tonight. Absolute (bleep) pick.

This pick felt a little lacking relative to its position (35th), but there's a lot of people who swear by Christie (Sam Vecenie had him 27th, Coach Spins of the Box and One had him 18th!!!!; and nbadraft.net had him 15th). This didn't bear out in the numbers, but that means he must have a lot of intangibles and the desire/ability to fulfill his ceiling at some point. Kind of interesting to reconcile that dissonance.

I had Christie ranked 51st, and if the Lakers wanted a shooter, I was a much bigger fan of the next pick (Gabriele Procida, who I had ranked 13th) or Vince Williams Jr (32nd). Both Procida and Williams popped way more defensively than Christie did, for shooters. That's an important component to get past the dime-a-dozen shooter label.

I suspect the Lakers were really targeting a shooter, especially with well-documented issues with our alphas not really having much gravity to begin with. But the last time the Lakers actively targeted shooter-shooter types, they didn't end up that well (Svi Mykhailiuk 2018, Anthony Brown 2015). Our scouts are way better when they draft for hustle and fill-in-the-blanks guys- see Josh Hart, Thomas Bryant, Larry Nance, Zubac.

Statistically, it draws a straight line to Anthony Brown - there's a lot of weird similarities there. Tony Snell was the closest match, and Snell's another guy who looks the part but just ends up being invisible 99% of the time. So that gives you the sense that we're talking about guys who are just so minimalist, so docile on the court, that might actually take away their gravity. Christie might be able to shoot, but first he needs to actually shoot (and shoot well) to derive actual gravity. We have Phil Handy and Darvin Ham who are good at player development/empowering players, but couldn't we have empowered Procida or Williams Jr? He kind of has the Svi problem - both can leap, but both are very skinny, lack toughness, can't get to the basket and really lack that sort of "horizontal" athleticism and deflection-ability.

But you can't get past the fact that many scouts just seem to love him. He's only 19 years old, was a 5-star recruit, and is a high character kid. He's a nice guy. Vecenie notes his pristine shooting mechanics (spot-up and off Klay cuts) and even raves about his defense. The defense is interesting - he's dark red in so many categories, but both Box and one and Sam really love his length and how he moves. It will truly be interesting to see how a guy with not much rebounding or deflection impact can defend at the level these scouts seem to impart on him. I guess it's easy to see the Lakers being attracted to the idea that he can bring gravity and that roving defense, combined with his persona and youth. We have seen teams overdraft shooting in the past (Josh Primo last year, even Pat Baldwin Jr this year) so I guess it's the Lakers' turn to speculate.

I also wonder how much we valued EJ Liddell--6 of the 7 teams above us also drafted worse prospects than Liddell, so we're not the only ones-but he was definitely a value play at 35. His power-3/4 game rates better than Stanley Johnson and Wenyen, but we're clearly too invested in those two despite their limitations.

Hey man, YOU had him rated 51st, who are you to make us believe your rankings mean s***?
