What do you all think of this kid?

Seems to me like he should be in the NBA

He can get off his shot very very easily which is usually a good sign from young players (Ingram, Tatum, Garland, Poole, Clarkson)

I think we should lock him up for 3-4 years and try to develop him.

They need to give him Pippen's two-way at minimum. I get Jordan Poole vibes from McCoy. He has a well rounded offensive game and looks like he can actually run an offense as well. He's taller and longer than Pippen and plays good defense. He shot 42% from 3 last year, many of them from way deep. He's going to be a spark plug off somebody's bench and it better be the Lakers.

Seems like he loves going back left for a jumper.
I wonder how he'd do when teams shade him to go left.

He has 3 moves and only really scores around the FT stripe.

Posted in SL thread before I saw this one...

McCoy has good size, form and control already which are basics to being a bench contributor. IMO, he would be a more likely successful "gamble" than Pippen for example. Swider appears to have elite shooting, so that probably will at least secure a two-way contract for a while unless he really can't figure out how to be a better defender. And, i'm no expert, but I still don't see anything particularly special about Christie either.

It is a super crap shoot with the developmental league / 2nd round talent but if it came down to choosing only 1 player, my "eye test" would probably pick McCoy as an all around player (or maybe Huff because you can't teach size or maybe Swider because of the apparent elite shooting ability) over both Pippen and Christie.

That said, it's hard to complain with whomever the Lakers choose because any team having to give significant NBA minutes to ANY of these guys in their 1st year probably isn't a very good team (e.g. Austin Reaves and the 2021-2022 Lakers) so there's that.....

He thinks he's KD, but doesn't have the vertical, is always off balanced on the handle, and any time he puts the ball on the floor, the defense wins. He's barely improved since South Bay, and I'd only be comfortable with him spot up shooting, but Swider is better than him at that.

Do you happen to have his numbers and how open he had to be to take and make?

He averaged 17 per game last year. Check his college highlights.

Javante McCoy stats v Pels: 14 PTS, 7 AST
If he doesn't make the NBA this season, the SB Lakers would be an ideal place for him to hone his BB skills.
I like his game. He has handles, he has a decent shot (55%) and he plays with intensity on both ends of the court.
The kid plays with confidence and he has plenty of SWAG.

The thing that worked against him is his age: 24.
The question for teams is the same as always: whether there's still much growth left or is he close to his ceiling.
(I like the kid and wish he succeeds)

There is that but IF (and I'm not saying that's true) he can come in and score 5-10 for you, that would be fine. Teams need a bench.

How close to his ceiling do you think he is?
8 ft?

Age matters if you're projecting some giant upside.

He's really skilled at what he does. He's a 5 year NCAA player. His skills are relatively limited, but his real shot is if he can get stronger defensively and hit corner 3s. Then he gets an NBA career.
