Kershaw breaking down?

It's that time of year. About time his back acts up.

Hopefully Pepiot gets the call next time Kershaw's turn comes up. Looks like this will be another lengthy DL stint for Kershaw with little time to ramp up for the postseason, fortunately we "May" have some starting pitching options to cover for Clayton.

We were going to have May make 2 more starts in the minors. Maybe his timeline gets accelerated now.

Here comes Kimbrel with a 3-run lead.

Dodgers continuing to use Kimbrel is like someone using an old lawnmower that they're going to replace soon. As long as it somehow still does the job, you're gonna just keep using it until you run it into the ground.

Too many meetings today so missed most of the game.

Did Kershaw hurt his back again?

We're 3-0 since the deadline and they're 2-1. Looks like we won the deadline...lol.

And no Blake Snell this weekend so we should be good

Somehow I missed this:

Quote:
Brewers DFA Dinelson Lamet Days After Acquiring Him in Josh Hader Deal....

The Brewers announced a slew of moves Wednesday, one of which that they had designated both Dinelson Lamet and Pedro Severino for assignment. Even though Lamet has had a very rough season in a full-time relief role, the move to DFA him was a surprise because he had just been acquired Monday from the Padres in the trade that sent Josh Hader to San Diego.

“Dinelson has a good arm and was included in the trade to help balance out the deal,” Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns explained. “As subsequent transactions played out, the roster fit became a little tougher. We are hopeful we will be able to keep him in our system.”

Quote:
Brewers lose Dinelson Lamet on waivers to Rockies, days after acquiring him in Josh Hader trade

Lamet was able to reject an optional assignment based on his service time

The Colorado Rockies announced on Friday that they had claimed right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. (Fellow righty Ashton Goudeau was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.) Lamet's addition to the Rockies caps off an unusual week of transactions involving him, the most notable of which occurred on Monday, when he was sent to Milwaukee as part of the four-player return in the Josh Hader trade.

Just how did Lamet go from being viewed by the Brewers as a player worth trading for to being subjected to the waiver wire in a matter of days -- and before he ever suited up with Milwaukee? It has less to do with anything he did, and more to do with the rules governing service time and optional assignments.

The short version goes like this. Any player with at least five years of big-league service time can reject an optional assignment. Lamet, by virtue of having more than five years of service time, was within his rights to reject that assignment. The Brewers had a numbers crunch on their roster -- remember, teams can carry a maximum of 13 pitchers now -- and so he ended up being the odd man out.

The amusing wrinkle -- though perhaps not for the Brewers -- is that they would have been able to send down Lamet had the trade accrued earlier in the year.

Indeed, Lamet entered the season needing 42 more days to clear the five-year mark. The Padres were free to option him as they desired, something they did on a couple of occasions. They brought him back to the majors on July 26 and after that point, he accrued enough service time to clear five years and gain this power.

The Brewers, for their part, were hoping Lamet would clear waivers and remain with the organization. Instead, he'll attempt to salvage his season (and, in a sense, his career) as a member of the Rockies organization.

Just inexcusable from the Brewers. I wonder if they were even aware that he couldn't be sent down. Either way, it's gross negligence on their part. They should have either had a different pitcher included in the deal (one that they could have sent to the minors or one who was already a minor leaguer), or had a position player prospect included instead.

We should have snagged him. Forced him to get TJ and stashed him away until he was ready. Super low risk, extreme reward given the talent he showed (people thought he'd be a frontline ace).

The Dodgers activated IF/OF Chris Taylor from the injured list, recalled RHP Reyes Moronta, optioned OF James Outman and placed LHP Clayton Kershaw on the injured list with low back pain.

We had no shot at him. It's not like the Padres would have traded him to us, and the Rockies claimed him on waivers.

Plus since he refuses to accept an assignment to the minors, he'd have to be put on the active roster for the rest of the season. I don't think we're ready for that. The Rockies can.

He's making $4.8M this year with one arbitration year left next yr. I don't think you can go down in salary in arbitration, so it'll cost at least $4.8M next year for the Rockies to retain him.

He seems like a prime candidate to be non tendered, so we can pick him up in the offseason, maybe on a minor league deal if no other team is interested?

Taylor is hitting 5th tonight in his return to the lineup. Alberto is in there at 3B and batting 6th. No Muncy. No Lux against the lefty, either. Trayce is in there in LF (and batting 8th), with Taylor at 2B. I probably would have kept Lux in there, as Trayce is better vs. righties. Oh, and Vargas is the DH, hitting 7th. Bellinger is in there but at least he's hitting 9th, where he should be.

Tommy Kahnle said he threw a 25 pitch bullpen today. It’s been his third bullpen since returning to IL. #Dodgers

I meant off waivers and it was more of a hope than a dictate, but yeah

Looks like the Brewers did have room for him until they picked up Trevor Rosenthal later that day.

Quote:
After the Hader trade, the Brewers brought in reliever Matt Bush on Monday from the Texas Rangers for two minor leaguers, left-hander Antoine Kelly and utilityman Mark Mathias. They then acquired reliever Trevor Rosenthal from the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.

"Dinelson has a good arm and was included in the trade to help balance out the deal," Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said Wednesday. "As subsequent transactions played out, the roster fit became a little tougher. We are hopeful we will be able to keep him in our system."

But Gonsolin is fading. Has no putaway pitch so far. They are fouling off everything with 2 strikes.
