I still remember when Schroeder owned Westbrook when the Lakers played the Celtics in Boston.

You know dam well the Lakers ain’t sending him home. For one that would destroy any leverage they have in a trade and two they’re not paying 47 mill to a player at home.

There is no leverage. His price either stayed the same or went up from last year. Rob was saying that the price to trade Russ would go down this summer but it didn’t.

Indeed. Sending Russ home, with another player that plays just like him.

Have you ever actually watched Dennis play?

Yeah, it’s called 2021. Especially that great game he had in Game 5 of the 2021 playoffs against the Suns!

Have you?

Yes. I am just scratching my head why you think they play the same way.

Both are low IQ, turnover prone, small guards. Neither of them are good 3 point shooters. Neither can play defense, and they both blow at the rim these days.

A lot of similarities actually. Westbrook is more athletic tho.

Better defensively, better FT shooter, better finisher at the rim, better passer …….he’s really better at everything other than emphatic dunks.

If you dislike him, that’s fine, but not an accurate comparison of players on your part.

The front office must have a list of ex-Lakers that they're calling. Thomas Bryant, Damion Jones, in a sense Beverley since we drafted him, and now Schroder.

He's a solid reacquisition but it still would be nice to have more length at the wing position.

Westbrook and Schroder Lakers stats:

Westbrook
34.3mpg / 18.5ppg- 44%/30%/67% - 7.4rpg/7.1apg - 3.8 TO
DS
32.1mpg / 15.4ppg- 44%/34%/85% - 3.5rpg/5.8apg - 2.7 TO

Yea don't see the similarities at all. Even DS at $21m a year still would have been better. Definitely better defensively than Westbrook. Plays with in the team defense and fights through it... He tries not something I can say about Westbrook.

Too much was expected to Schröder the first time around we were expecting him to be a big impact guy and he was not now his salary and his role on the team is more in line with where he should be

Anything that gets Westbrook off this team…

Wasn't Schroder's best years was playing under Ham's system while he was with the Hawks?

Incredible how he turned down 4 years, 84 million and now returns for slightly more than a tenth of the original annual offer.

Showtime reunion just happened in Hawaii.. Maybe they can get Coop to lace-up and be our missing "3 and D" guy...

Coop had great defense, for some reason he could not guard Andrew Toney.

Looking back then, I know I was personally annoyed with him and felt even that amount was overpaying. Yes, he should have taken it, and yes, I admit (shamefully now) I felt at the time "yep, see what happens when you get greedy?!"

But, after reflection, and time passage, I just look at it as an unfortunate decision.

As for him being on the team now, I suppose he understands his role is no longer what he demanded before being traded here, so there is that - it likely plays to his strength, presumably him coming off the bench.

But while I am fine with this signing, I do not believe this takes this team really much further. At best, he and Bev get this team to be a bit better than last year, maybe good enough to avoid the play in and end up as the sixth seed...maybe (assuming team stays healthy).

Any significant shift, IMO, will require Russ traded for some incoming pieces.

Never really understood the DS hate back then... He helped to keep this team afloat while Lebron/AD was out. He was very solid for us. Pretty much got burned by the fans because of that one game in the playoffs.

Sure the money thing was annoying, but I can't be mad at a guy who bet on himself. I wished that DS did accept our offer, it would have never put us in this Westbrook situation we are currently in.

But DS for the minimum? That's a big W!!!

Off the top of my head things that annoyed me back then about him:

1. His insistence to start (yes, Lakers okayed that, I know my annoyance with that is a me issue);
2. His laying on the floor when he would think he got fouled allowing 5 on 4's the other end. Yea, I know other players do that (I think LBJ does stuff like this), but doesnt mean I have to like it.
3. IIRC he was streaming a gaming session during one night he had COVID and the team was playing. Just rubbed me the wrong way.
4. Him taking himself off the team's social media page during the playoffs.
5. Him demanding $100M

I'm sure there's more, and I wasnt the only one annoyed with at least one of the foregoing antics. Maybe the above provides understanding, maybe not.

With that said, I'm way past all that, frankly dont care anymore about that, and am now just hoping he can help the squad.

Misfortune over a player that makes more money than 99% of the people on this site will ever see in their lifetime.

Your defense for him is cringe.

Fair enough; but someone who gambles and basically lost about 85% of what they could have had definitely can create some reactions, either way.

We will be running a ton of 3 guard lineups this year:

Tier 1: LBJ AD
Tier 2: West DS PB Nunn
Tier 3: Reaves JTA Walker

Tier 4: Bryant Jones WG Brown Max

We will be giving minutes to our best players and our guards are the best players. I know everyone here is in love with the twin towers idea, but Bryant and DJ are some of our worst players and likely will not get that much time even if they are centers, just like how D Jordan kept getting played off the court last year.

AD at the 5 is still our most talented group, It will look something like this for the majority of the game regardless of who starts:

DS West
PB Nunn
Reaves JTA Brown
LBJ Walker WG
AD Bryant Jones

The main emphasis should be on how we would be on the hook for that contract that Pelinka offered if Denis had taken him up on that offer. And if offering it at the time was a mistake in retrospect, did Rob change anything up in his assessment process to avoid it again.
