I still don't think it devalues the regular season that much. Yes, you could get a team with more than 2 losses in there, but you still have to win your conference just to guarantee your spot. If you lose a couple of games, there's no guarantee that you even win the division of your conference or get to your conference's title game, so each game is still extremely important. There will be eight at-large bids, sure, but those teams with 2-3 losses that don't win their conference are going to be sweating before the committee selects the at-large teams. I still don't think teams will be taking weeks off or whatever. Plus, the higher-seeded at-large teams get to host games in the opening round.

Because of all of this, I still think each week is monumentally important, if a little bit less so.

Playoff expansion was inevitable ever since they got rid of voting for the national champions. That being said they are seeing it as literally printing money since college football has enormous interest.

Yeah I’m just talking about the drama, the compelling storylines. I’m not saying teams will now start to take weeks off.

I mean, we’ve seen it in MLB. Since they’ve added the Wild Card, when’s the last great compelling division race. I can’t think of the last one. Before the Wild Card though, there were plenty.

SF Giants - Atlanta Braves come to mind.

The Dodgers-Giants race last year could have been as dramatic. But it wasn’t. There was talk on the Dodgers board about whether winning the division was even worth it. Some wanted to concede the division for rest.

Now most of the compelling stories at the end of the year is about who makes the WC.

Same thing in the NBA. There are no compelling races for seeding. The compelling stories are for the 8-10th seeds. And now with the play in tournament, there’s not even that.

So my prediction is once there’s a 12 team playoff, the compelling stories will shift to the 11-15 ranked teams.

Before, when there were 2 teams, the compelling stories were with the 1-5 ranked teams. Then with the current 4 team playoff, the compelling stories are with the 1-6 ranked teams.

Now it’ll get moved down to 11-15 or around there. I don’t even know who were the 11-15 ranked teams last year, but the focus will be on them once this playoff system kicks off.

College basketball is another example. Who actually pays attention to their regular season? Pretty much, people want to discuss all the no 1 seeds and then all the bubble teams.

OK, I see what you meant now. Yeah, it will be different for sure. But it was inevitable. Like the electronic strike zone in baseball. It's coming, just a matter of when!

A walkoff blocked PAT after your opponent went 99 yards in 80 seconds? No way.

I was glad it ended that way, I watched the entire game and FSU dominated for the most part and honestly deserved to win. It should have been a 14 pt margin if they don't fumble at the one going in to set up the 99 yard drive.

Fun game though. Nana was doing their best to shoot themselves in foot, but you just knew they were gonna pull it out.

They dialed up a good blitz from the secondary on Bama's final drive, but the dude missed the tackle on Young and his ensuing scramble got them within chip shot FG range.

USC looking like an entirely different team than the last 5 years.

No doubt Lincoln Riley is going to make a major impact.

They look like they are back in the national conversation once again.
It also helps that his top players from Oklahoma transferred to USC so its been a seamless transition.

UCLA with an impressive win over ranked Washington at home. UCLA will most likely be ranked now with a 5-0 record.

Indeed. I thought Washington -2.5 was very fishy, kind of like USC by -5.5 last week. Both times, had you went with the fish, you'd have covered the spread!

UCLA at Oregon in 2 weeks, as both teams have a bye next week. Should be a good one, a Chip Kelly revenge game again. USC struggled for a while today but won again too. Would be crazy if both LA schools are still undefeated when they play each other, although it's still unlikely. USC will have a tough test at Utah next week. Tough place to play.
