PostPosted: Mon Nov 14, 2022 11:00 am    Post subject: LA TIMES: 75 GREATEST LAKERS

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Lakers franchise the LA Times offers us this.... (May be behind a paywall)

https://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/story/2022-11-14/75-greatest-lakers-players-kobe-bryant-magic-johnson-kareem

And if you would like to argue with them directly about the list they have provided a survey...

I know it's the 75th anniversary and such, but they really should have cut this list off earlier. By the time we got to Kyle Kuzma, it was a stretch. When the list came to Devean George, it was silly. But then comes Connie Hawkins, and you know that the shark has been jumped.

LeBron way too high. Can't believe this was voted on by LA Times columnists.

Kobe should be #1 and even Magic (West, Shaq, Jeannie) all agree.

What is the methodology of this ranking? I don't really know how you quantify some of this stuff. For instance, by what criteria is Luke Walton ahead of Dwight Howard? 2012-2013 Dwight obviously had greater impact than Luke ever did, and so did even the 2019-2020 version of Dwight. Similarly, Odom had greater impact on the three straight finals teams (2008-2010) than Fisher did.

Points awarded for each vote were 75 points for No. 1 descending to one point for No. 75. There were 47 unanimous selections, each among the top 49.

So, it's based on the opinions of those six...

I take it as just an entertainment piece... newspaper fodder.

there's no way to truly quantify this... especially since most of us have no clue on the Mikan years... let alone the Baylor/West years.

He's ahead of Mikan who has 5 and Gasol has 2. Stupid garbage list. I hate sports media now, it's trash.

If you think Kurt Rambis is a more important Laker than LeBron James, a GOAT candidate who put a banner up and will have his jersey retired, then you may be overstating your education.

Went to a Von’s Supermarket and bought out the shelf.
Which was only 3 LA times copies left.

When the Ffff did newspapers start costing $3.66??!?

I remember the days with the Kobe and Shaq three peat championships I used to buy an LA times for like $0.50 a pop

I’m getting old or maybe this inflation thing is just ridiculous. Or maybe both.

I love Kobe and there is nothing wrong with labeling him the greatest basketball player of all time and sure Laker as well.

But back to Greatest Laker , it’s more than how many championships you’ve won, how many scoring titles, all star appearances ext.

Magic was the leader at the beginning of the Dynasty Lakers in Los Angeles. (George Mikan leader of the Minny Dynasty Lakers) He changed the culture and automatically rearranged the Lakers image and tbh the entire basketball world as well the second he stepped onto an NBA floor. Winning his first championship his rookie year.

I love Kobe and will never argue with someone who calls him the GOAT but Kobe himself would probably even label Magic the greatest Laker of all time

True. Personally Magic is 2nd to MJ all time to me, and greatest Laker by that logic. But Kobe is damn close and up there as well.

About the list, i only saw the top, but James has no place there. Put him behind atleast Mikan and Worthy

Just really bad HL really bad and you always seem to keep outdoing yourself

Before the lockdown the 2020 Lakers where on pace to winning 65 games.
Beat the brakes off the clippers and bucks on the same weekend.

In the bubble every other team had the same 5 month recharge/hiatus

In the bubble the rims where still 10 feet tall and the courts where still 94 feet long.

AD was phenomenal but Lebron was better.

Lebron winning number 17 for the Lakers tying the all time high chip count with the celtics is hugggggggeeeeee.

Tbh I’m starting to really doubt if you and all the others who belittle that 2020 title as if it’s played at LA Fitness if you all are truly Lakers fans?

MJ only gets the GOAT title too most people imo because he changed the culture of the game as well. Because if we going off one on one assassin GOAT BEAN>>>>> MJ to me bro!

Kobe got better handles, three point shooting, and better playmaker than MJ

Athleticism MJ a bit above Kobe.
Midday game - Tie
Post Game- KOBE
Defense- Tie
Psychotic obsession with the game of basketball- Tie
