Fresh off a disastrous midterms performance, a civil war is brewing inside the Republican Party, with one common theme: The current leaders are failing. MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin spoke to Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford about the Democratic Party’s successes in the midterms and what role Donald Trump played in how voters in his state cast their ballot.

(Alleged Leak Of SCOTUS Decision ‘Extremely Harmful To American Politics’)

Quote:
There was a lot of controversy after the early leak of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. But a major new report from the New York Times alleges that that was not the only major decision to be leaked ahead of time: A former longtime member of the anti-abortion movement claims that he was told about the outcome of the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2014’s Burwell v. Hobby Lobby weeks before it was announced and that he used that information to prepare a PR push. Former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade and Senior Editor and legal correspondent at Slate Dahlia Lithwick join Sam Stein to analyze the blowback of this revelation and the consequences of confidential information leaking from the Supreme Court. “In addition to transparency, in addition to meaningful reform about disclosures, the most important thing is that the justices take seriously that when they look like they're in the tank for people with vested income interest in cases, that undermines public confidence in the institution as a whole,” says Lithwick.

The Majority Report w/ Sam Seder

(Democrats Won BIG TIME On The State Level And Here's Why | Aaron Kleinman | TMR)

Quote:
Sam is joined by Aaron Kleinman, director of research for the States Project at Future Now, to discuss how Democrats did in the midterms at the state level across the country. Aaron Kleinman and Sam then parse through the various victories by the Democrats at the state level, including flipping both chambers and achieving a trifecta in Michigan, flipping the Senate and retaining the House in Minnesota, and performing incredibly well (with votes still coming in) in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, also touching on results from Arizona, Colorado, and Maine. After addressing the upcoming Moore v. Harper case and its likely impact on the power of state legislatures, they wrap up the interview by tackling the importance of the 2024 elections and where the States Project’s work is likely going next.

Wishful thinking by Dems. One thing GOP has over Dems is unity when it counts. They don’t have Mancin and Sinema on record cast deciding votes against their party in critical issues. GOP members of congress may talk one thing to media, but when it comes to deciding vote they all stick with the party line, and right now that line is Donald trump.

Not anymore. There is a HUGE division between the national party and the house. Just look at McConnel v. the freedom caucus (McCarthy now included). People like Gosar, Taylor Greene, Gaetz, Boebert, Jordan and Gohmert are why there was no red wave, yet there are so many of them in the house (not the Senate) that you can't be elected as speaker (or get anything done) on the GOP side unless you give them a fair amount of say/power.

And these people aren't reasonable. There is a much, much larger divide between these loons in the Freedom Caucus and the GOP majority than there was between the progressive caucus and the Dem Majority. I think McConnel will keep the Senate in line for the most part, but the House is going to be a sh*t show.

The best thing Biden can do is just allow them their investigations. Show up when called upon. Don't run from anything the House wants, all the while doing serious committees and investigations in the Senate (assuming Warnock gets re-elected) while repeating time and time again over the next two years that the Dems are trying to address serious things like inflation, crime, the economy, healthcare... while Republicans are not serious people who are more than happy to turn our government into an embarrassing circus.

Quote:
The appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith to take over Trump’s criminal investigations is sparking debate among legal experts. Former U.S. Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal joins “The Beat” saying he doesn’t think Attorney General Garland had to do it -- because it might “reward Donald Trump for his move of trying to announce his candidacy early to try and head off an investigation.” The appointment is also predictably triggering many on the right with MAGA ally Jim Jordan reportedly wanting to investigate the prosecutor.

Barr warns Trump ‘will burn the whole house down,’ calls for new GOP leader

Former Attorney General William Bar on Monday called for a new leader of the Republican Party, warning in a blistering rebuke that former President Trump “will burn the whole house down.”

“Unless the rest of the party goes along with him, he will burn the whole house down by leading ‘his people’ out of the GOP,” Barr said in a scathing op-ed published in the New York Post on Monday.

“Trump’s willingness to destroy the party if he does not get his way is not based on principle, but on his own supreme narcissism,” he added. “His egoism makes him unable to think of a political party as anything but an extension of himself — a cult of personality.”

Lyin Ted nodding his head like a bobblehead when he does bits w/ Herschel. The frig is that? As if people wouldn't understand that he's shilling for Herschel lest he nods his head fully continuously for the duration of Herschel making sounds.

That's gotta be a microcosm of the effects that Delta had as the "Boomer remover". I'd like to hear Linda, Mule, Omar, and the next 7 most political LG members vote yes/no on this question: If Covid never happened, would the Dems have done as well as they did in these midterms? I'd wager 9 outta 10 "no"s just to be safe, but it'd probably be 10/10. They'd be basing that on the history of midterms they remember from their lifetimes, not on how much they think the Dems SHOULD succeed on merit/trustworthiness/integrity/etc.
