Would you guys do Russ/2 first for Buddy/Turner/Duarte?

Then flip Lonnie/Pat for another player?

Naw, it was just spitballing by someone.

Lakers really like Duarte too, I would be tempted. Just sucks that we risk losing Turner after the season.

if this is about Brons window then nothing beyond the moment matters. Roll the dice.

I think Sam Presti might be willing to take Westbrook on, the Thunder are looking like a legit play in team right now and getting there hometown hero back will get the fans and the team excited

If someone is willing to do a Westbrook deal with us, but they see Westbrook as a net negative, only taking the deal to get the FRP(s), then it would be smartest for them to wait until the very last minute to execute the trade. If they are taking on extra salary in the deal, that would be even more reason for them to wait until after their last game before the deadline. Maybe there is already a pre-agreement out there.

Honestly, I'm starting to feel like the Hornets are the most ideal trading partner. Just because Kelly Oubre standouts as a huge need for this roster. Either we trade Beverley and a frp for him to make it happen, or we go with a big one that involves taking back big contracts. But it won't end up giving up picks. Which I'm now warming up to if a trade was like this:

Westbrook
Beverley

For

Roziar
Hayward
Oubre

Sure, we take on Hayward and Roziar's contracts, but they are still solid players and fulfill needs for this team. Plus, at this point, cap space shouldn't be an objective anymore with Rui's cap hold, and the need to resign our useful role players. The market is going to be grossly overpriced to sign even ONE good player, so why not fill the team with guys that we will have bird rights with? We will have bird rights to resign Oubre, we will already have Hayward and Roziar, Lebron and AD, bird rights for Reaves and Rui, and Christie. As well as a first round pick to grow our roster.

Suddenly we won't be in dire need of surrounding Lebron and AD with vet min guys again in a deal like this. We get help on size, defense, and shooting. Especially from Roziar. So what's not to like here other than questionable contracts which for this team, is not much of a negative at this point.

Don't hate it but just wondering...is this the lineup you'd role with?

Guessing:
AD
Rui
Bron
Kelly
Rozier

I'd make sure Hornets take on D. Jones as well. Saves a couple more million and clears him from next years books.

Actually I would start Hayward, so the ideal rotation would look something like this:

Roziar/Schroder
Hayward/Reaves/Walker
Rui/Oubre/Brown Jr
James/Gabriel
AD/Bryant

I struggled with starting either Rui or Oubre, but I think that will be a competitive position for either one. You could make a case for either depending on matchups, or how you feel about Rui as a long term player. I chose Rui because if he turns out to succeed here, he’s a player we will keep long term going forward.

Obviously if Hayward either gets injured or somehow doesn’t work, he can be a scoring punch off the bench as well instead.

That’s what I thought because there was not a single report or rumor, or even a fake rumor of Charlotte wanting ANYTHING for Roziar and Hayward. Just a way to get rid of them. Which is why we heard at least a decent amount of reports since last off-season of trading Westbrook for those two plus a sweetener like Oubre, as a cost for the Lakers taking those two players on.

There’s no way Hornets, especially with MJ as their owner, is asking for anything other than a way out of those contracts if the Lakers were to approach them.

I do expect something out of nowhere (expecting the unexpected in other words lol), but I don’t know if it will be a HUGE trade. Just a small one like the Rui one.

The thing about Bojan is that I can easily see him become useless like he was with the Jazz come playoff time.

Guys like him, Joe Harris, Seth Curry, Duncan Robinson, etc become huge liabilities when their shots are not falling. That’s why you don’t see many teams going after a specialist who only does one thing well anymore.

At least when KCP’s shot in the playoffs wasn’t falling, he could still be some good defense.

Yes to all you've written but go after Seth, he hits big shots in the playoffs, and statistically, he is a better percentage shooter than his brother. All Championship level teams need at least one of these types of guys.

Pelinka from the conference:
Quote:
It’s easy to get a veteran at the end of their career with a pick, but when you can get a player that can have hopefully a 10+ year run, of great basketball like Rui can, that’s a really unique opportunity at the Deadline

This confirms what I’ve mentioned and expected after the Rui trade, that Pelinka since last off-season, has been going in the direction of acquiring cheap young talent to build a roster with long term. Besides trading for Beverley (which again, was just to get an expiring from THT’s contract), Rob was signing players only 25 years old or younger. Guys like TB, Walker, Troy Brown Jr, continued developing of Reaves, playing Christie, and now this Rui trade.

That’s why guys like Bojan aren’t a trade target right now for this team. He doesn’t at all fit to what the Lakers staff is looking for. They want players that will stay here long term for maybe 10+ or so years, or at least players with still good potential in them to get better. No more of those 32+ years old declining players like the year before.

Nets are gonna ask the Lakers for a first rounder for him. Just because the Nets want nothing to do with helping out a potential rival for the finals. And just because Lakers tax.

And no way just the Lakers pay anywhere near that much for a bench player. Especially when this team is still overloaded with small guards as it is.

Reports? I don't remember anything other than spitballing. There was one report last June that the Hornets had an interest in Westbrook, but it came from a dubious source. I think it was the guy from Bill Simmons' crew. Anyway, there was never any verification or follow up, and I don't remember any report that there was an actual discussion about Westbrook for Rozier and Hayward.

He was ballin for them last year too, looked like a great player. My only assumption is that Bennedict Mathurin came in and looked better so they wanted to focus on him

I'd love to get Duarte but, again, I dont see Pacers making a fair deal with the Lakers.

we don't need a fair deal. if there are players that can be had that makes us title contenders you have to it. there isn't a one foot in one foot out scenario.
