Lakers Rumors: Latest on Potential Nick Young Trade, Kevin Seraphin and More
By Alec Nathan , Featured Columnist Jul 10, 2015
Aaron Gash/Associated Press
The Los Angeles Lakers will forever operate under the NBA microscope, so it's not a surprise the rumor mill regarding Purple and Gold prospects on the trade market has started churning faster while the rest of the league begins taking a free-agency breather.
Of late, the Lakers have been connected to trade rumors regarding cap-clearing maneuvers and a certainly streaky shooter. Additionally, the team is still searching for frontcourt options in free agency to help bolster a presumed starting front line of Julius Randle and Roy Hibbert.

Jason DeCrow/Associated Press
Lou Williams is known for doing one thing exceptionally well—scoring buckets with the flash of a superhero, albeit in the body of a 175-pound humanoid.
The 10-year guard was officially signed by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, per Lakers.com. His presence will bring instant offense to a team that averaged just 98.5 points per game during its 21-61 season.
He is, after all, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, collecting the honor after a stellar season with the Toronto Raptors.

Jordan Clarkson is probably just one of many people looking forward to Kobe Bryant's return to Los Angeles Lakers line up.
In his own piece at The Player's Tribune, the 2015 All-Rookie Team reminisced on the time he first went toe-to-toe against the Black Mamba.
"It wasn't even preseason yet, but Kobe was going full speed. Somehow he made it look as if he was just gliding around," 23-year old Clarkson wrote....

Jordan Clarkson shares his 'welcome to the NBA' moment from Kobe Bryant
FOX Sports
JUL 08, 2015 1:41p ET
If you're a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers, you get a rite of passage that most new NBA players don't experience until well into their first season: Kobe Bryant is going to score on you and make you feel silly.
Jordan Clarkson got that lesson before preseason had even started last year, as he wrote in The Players' Tribune about his first season in the league:
"It wasn't even preseason yet, but Kobe was going full speed. Somehow he made it look as if he was just gliding around. I don't think he had played all summer due to his injury, but he still killed everyone. The first possession, he caught the rock along the baseline and hit a turn-around jumper in my face ... a shot I've seen him hit literally a thousand times on TV.

Even though it’s been plenty of years since the Los Angeles Lakers have signed a marquee free agent, the team is always a lock to receive meetings with the game’s biggest names during the Twitter-gossip bonanza that is the early July moratorium/negotiating period. Like most summers, recruiting free agents was a giant priority for the Lakers, but a priority for a different reason than it was five or so years ago, when the team would look to add the final piece to a championship roster.

That's why the spiel about how super stars used to come to us is overblown. Shaq has been the only one. We traded for Wilt and Kareem. Payton and Malone were heading for retirement homes. |

Lakers sign rookies D'Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr.
BY ERIC PINCUS
July 10, 2015, 5:20 p.m.
The Lakers signed rookies D'Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. to multiyear, rookie-scale contracts before their summer league game Friday in Las Vegas.
Russell, a 19-year-old guard from Ohio State, was selected with the second overall pick in June. His contract is likely to total $23 million, starting at $5.1 million for the upcoming season.
Nance, son of former Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns All-Star Larry Nance Sr., was taken 27th out of Wyoming via the Houston Rockets selection acquired by the Lakers in the Jeremy Lin trade last summer. The 22-year-old forward is under contract for approximately $5.9 million.

Los Angeles Lakers Officially Ink First-Round Picks, D’Angelo Russell Puts League on Notice

The Los Angeles Lakers formally signed first round picks D’Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. in advance of the team’s first Las Vegas summer league game Friday, according to the team’s Twitter feed.
The Lakers were widely expected to draft Jahlil Okafor with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, but they passed on the celebrated big man to take Russell.
The six-foot-four guard averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and five assists in his one-and-done season at Ohio State. Russell joins second-year guard Jordan Clarkson in the Lakers backcourt, and he anticipates wreaking havoc on opposing defenses with Clarkson in the years to come.

Timberwolves vs. Lakers: Score, Reaction from Russell and Towns' Debut
By Steven Cook , Featured Columnist Jul 10, 2015
The Minnesota Timberwolves topped the Los Angeles Lakers 81-68 Friday night in the teams' opener of the 2015 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, but the final score served as a footnote to the professional debuts of top picks Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell.
With all eyes on him as the draft's No. 1 overall pick, Towns' ability to fit seamlessly into the NBA game stole the show in a showdown flush with young talent. He scored 12 points and added three rebounds, but his impact on and off the ball went well beyond the stat sheet.
Russell dazzled as well, putting up eight points and six assists while looking comfortable on and off the ball. The No. 2 overall pick showed instant chemistry with fellow guard Jordan Clarkson, who scored a team-high 23 points to lead the Lakers.
