The Majority Report w/ Sam Seder

(Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson Crushes Anti-LGBTQ Lawyer)

Quote:
The Supreme Court heard oral argument in the case of Lorie Smith, a website designer who wants to expand her business to include wedding websites for opposite-sex couples only. Smith is challenging a Colorado law that prohibits most businesses from discriminating against LGBTQ customers. Smith argues that requiring her to create websites for same-sex weddings would violate her right to freedom of speech. During the oral argument, Justice Sonia Sotomayor and the more liberal justices expressed doubt about whether creating a wedding website would be considered speech, and whether Smith's proposed rule would allow businesses to refuse to serve other groups protected by anti-discrimination laws. Chief Justice John Roberts and his five conservative colleagues signaled that they were likely to join him in a ruling for Smith, who is arguing that creating a wedding website is considered speech and that the law would require her to create a message that she believes to be false.

Curious if legally a gym advertising website or a restaurant advertising website is lumped with wedding cake company advertising website aka free for all to ‘not serve’ due to bla bla bla

The Young Turks

(The View: You Can't Run For Senate Until You Get Permission From Power)

Quote:
One of the hosts of The View was very "surprised" Katie Porter didn't seek Diane Feinstein's blessing before running for Senate. Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola, and Michael Shure discuss on The Young Turks.

The View had decidedly mixed feelings about Congresswoman Katie Porter’s (D-CA) announcement that she will run next year for the Senate seat currently held by Dianne Feinstein (D).

Porter announced her future Senate bid on Tuesday in a video declaring “California needs a warrior in the Senate to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy.” Feinstein, the oldest sitting member of the Senate, holds the seat Porter is seeking. While it is widely expected that the senator will retire at the end of this term, as of now, she has made no announcement of her plans for 2024.

The View co-hosts gave Porter credit for her history as one of the sharpest, most effective questioners in the House’s congressional committees. However, Sunny Hostin said she was “surprised” Porter didn’t wait until Feinstein confirmed her retirement before making her announcement.

Poor oppressed straight white people. The next thing you know they'll have to serve black people at lunch counters in all white diners.

Republicans get mad when we call them bigots, racists and misogynists. But they keep proving every day that they are all that and worse.

Just read the article on the Hill about this. Sounds like he took the initiative on his own to make sure, and then cooperated fully with the FBI returning the docs.

As a nation, we probably do need to crack down on the handling of classified information by high-ranking politicians, but like with Biden, Pence's handling of the situation was 100% opposite of Trump in every way.

Quote:
Greg Jacob, the attorney representing Pence, wrote to the Archives that Pence used outside counsel with experience handling classified documents to review records stored at his personal home after several classified documents were found at Biden’s home earlier this month.

Lawyers conducting the search found “a small number of documents that could potentially contain sensitive or classified information interspersed throughout the records.”

Pence’s team was unable to provide an exact number of documents recovered or additional descriptions of the materials because they were locked away until they could be turned over to the National Archives.

In a Sunday letter to the Archives, Jacobs explained that FBI agents came to Pence’s home on Thursday night to collect the documents that had been stored away. He indicated that Pence agreed to turn over the two boxes with materials containing classified markings, as well as two other boxes with copies of administration records.

Interesting. So is the opposition to releasing the report a way of covering the for a decision not to charge? If you’re going to charge, why not bolster that decision with the Grand Jury findings?

Judging from what I've been reading some if not all presidents and vice presidents have taken classified documents off campus and have them at private homes and offices.

What I read and hear is all except Trump have cooperated and returned the documents. Trump has resisted and claims the documents belong to him. That in itself is enough reason to indict him. It also removes the shelf that they did it so why can't I?

As I understand it, it's just a timing issue.

Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. I think the evidence is damaging and she wants to use it in her prosecution case.

FYI SAS is about to join Ari Melber on The Beat
