From quiet poker player confidence in Mitch, to the opposite end of the spectrum with this F.O.

When Pelinka says "We want to give Luke the best roster in the league". It's hard not to contrast that with how non-outspoken Mitch was; and think that Mitch didn't have the same aspirations, or passion for that aspiration -- It's hard not to misconstrue that. Falling for that is the error that we've always seen in the outspoken/quiet dichotomy , though.
So.. It's just interesting to compare and contrast - It just stands out when you first hear these new guys

It's funny that Magic seems about an inch away from a proclamation like "Guarantee we'll be contending in 4 years". While the only time Jim/Mitch stepped into that ballpark, they sealed their own fate.

Don't know what to make of the press conference. I didn't expect specifics but the way he kept emphasizing collaboration and the Laker brand appealing to free-agents sounded like the words were coming straight out of the Jeanie Buss' mouth.

Good luck to our new FO.

It was time for a change and let's hope that these guys are able to get the players we need.

If we were the Los Angeles Lakars it may make sense...

But then it would just be LA Cars which is different

So unless he thinks we're the Los Angeles Lakares

I'm sure the rest of it was fine though, I haven't seen it yet.

Are you feeling more or less confident in the new FO after today?

I found it kind of funny when Rob said he doesnt know if DLO/Ingram/Randle is a championship foundation, but he does know Luke is a championship caliber coach. Speaking objectively, Luke has been just as bad as our young guys this year.

I do like the fact that Magic said he wouldn't hesitate to go outside of Lakers circle to find the best Front office talent. Luke should do the same with his coaching staff.

Well if you rearrange the letters, he isn't wrong.

Lakers - Lacers - cares.

WAIT A FREAKING MINUTE.. PELINKA DROPPED A HINT...

Replace the K with C in Lakers..

You get The Lacers

Both the letters A and the C are two letters apart = 2
And the letters C and the E are also 2 letters apart = 2

2+ 2 = 4

4 Letters away from L is P .....

Replace the L with a P

And you get..

The Pacers

Pelinka just told the world that we're going to get Paul George

Can anyone here say they are a championship foundation?

This is exactly it.

It is the Lakers, we aren't going to go 5,6,7 years in the lottery (which is where it was heading under Mitch) and not make changes.

I like what I hear from the new regime, but they have been left a mess to clean up.

But the Lakers job would never open up unless it was a mess.

Less confident but that may be due to not knowing what to expect. I've never experienced such an abrupt front office change in all the years of being a Laker fan. West was the GM for so long and then Mitch slid into the role after years of apprenticeship.

Its not a knock to those players.. but realistically right now or next year or 2.. they are not. 9/15 players are below 25yo.

But I think he right about Luke, he's an amazing young HC. He's won a ring as a player and as an assistant.
(Just needs to improve his staff members)

Other than that he just doesn't have the players to succeed right now. Thats why RP said " we have to get better talent for Luke to coach"

ok but do you mean 'i was inspired by 50 shades of grey' nuts or like 'first one in the gym and last to leave kobe' nuts. wait.

he did say you could replace the K in Lakers with a C which then gives you Lacers and a lace is something you could strangle people with, right

Pelinka knows how to use words to create a vision. That is how you sell players on becoming part of something here is LA so I am feeling good right now.

Just something interesting i picked up on today.

listened in the car live and just watching the reply now on TV...

I thought that story about Kobe and '07 was interesting, hearing it the first time I was kind of confused, like didn't he demand a trade? Will play on Pluto, etc...

Hearing it a second time it was clear there apparently wasn't ever a desire to leave (even though we have heard going to the Clippers was a real possibility) sounded to me like the entire thing was designed to spark the lakers to do something.

sorry if this is old news but it just got my attention today as an interesting insight into a pivotal point in Laker history.

That my good sir is what we call revisionist history .

That story was just bull. A feel good story that was altered to make everything look positive.

Its definitely a change from how Mitch handled the media.
It sounds like he, Jeanie and Magic have laid out a vision that they want to make a reality, outside of having a winning product on the court (of course we dont know all the details).
But it was exciting to hear RP say they want to create a new, unique golden standard for the rest of the league to try and follow.

As far as Rob mentioning Lakers 2.0 and the brand... I actually don't have a problem with it. Yes, it's been said that players these days don't give a you know what about Hollywood or Lakers lore... But given the current CBA, and California income tax, it's, in a way, all we got... It just was never leveraged correctly. Jim Buss was a non communicative trust fund baby with zero of his dad's shrewdness or business acumen... And Mitch had the personality of damp cardboard (as smart as he is).

Maybe the "Rob and Magic Razzle Dazzle Show" will have better luck. Just make sure Luke isn't caught flirting with free agent wives ☺️

What mistakes drafting wise are you referring to?
