This is wrong.

Betting odds are set to encourage betting among all the possibilities. (The odds aren't a prediction of who will win; they are set and changed to shift betting across all choices for risk management). Then the casinos make their money by the fee they charge on the losing bets.

The casinos literally don't care who wins or loses -- they care about having as high a volume of bets as possible. So Sharpe is 100% wrong -- casinos love any player or team that creates more betting.

Not sure about that. Most betting there no cap limit or am I wrong? For example, Casino total bet taken for Lakers to win is $10m…. Boston is $5m… Who do you think the Casino is rooting for to win?

At the end of the day, the house don’t want to fork out their own cash for a payout.

It's more complicated than that. The Celtics were -7.5. The sportsbooks lost on those bets no matter what. They would have lost on the straight-up bets if the Lakers won, but they might have come out ahead overall. Conversely, they might have lost overall if the Celtics had won by 8, depending on the volume of bets on the different choices. The point is that it isn't as simple as winning and losing.

So what was the best outcome for the casinos? Without knowing the volume of bets, it's impossible to say. We might have had a lot of money on the Celtics ATS, but a lot of money on the Lakers straight up, or vice versa.

If it is gut wrenching, every team should feel it, we felt it 4 games in 2 weeks.

Instead of celebrating a great win, social media is nothing but a cesspool dumping on LeBron for his admittedly dramatic reaction. Just can't have nice things these days.

At least Rory and Djokovic won

People are dumb. Lebron said the reaction was building up, and that’s the 4th game now the refs have costed us in 2 weeks!!! We’ve had our own ups and downs this season but we have been absolutely robbed of some great wins this year due to blatant bad refereeing.

I’m honestly shocked it took him this long to blow a gasket tbh. I’m a fan watching on tv and I’ve had to refrain from throwing my tv out of the window since November lol

I'm concerned about this blatant mockery of what is a serious issue. Those statements made by the ref's union are obviously sarcastic and meant to ridicule. It seems to me that the NBA refs are laughing in the face of the Lakers franchise and all its fans.

What is Jeanie Buss going to do about it, dammit?

Disappointed that the Laker organization has not responded with a “ enough is enough” type response.

The league and refs providing the multiple two min reports confirming they screwed up multiple times should be enough.

Vent a little. Share your frustration with the refs costing your team standings positioning. Back your players and then when fined, appeal it. Keep the pressure on the league and refs that this is unacceptable.

What is the worst that can happen. The refs purposely target the Lakers because they are embarrassed? The league fines the Lakers ridiculous amounts for reacting to their screwups? A call from the Commish to scold the franchise for being too transparent?

As the Lakers pay the fine, make sure to publicly point it out. Repeatedly.

Lakers organization is letting the league and refs off the hook way to easily.

I'm sure there are no personal feelings here and everything is super professional, much like their super objective L2M reports.

In general, I don't see people interpreting the refs comments as a mockery at all. All the reporting I've seen calls it an unprecedented apology and the over-the-top language as a sign of how contrite the refs are.

Personally, I doubt the refs were mocking the situation. They know they screwed up badly.

just curious if they've described an officiating error as gut wrenching in the past

The over-the-top comm was probably due to the sleepless night prior.

I actually feel like referees want to call games correctly for the most part. And if I oversaw the refs, I'd want my employees to call games correctly, and I'd feel sick if my employees made mistakes.

A bit over the top for sure. Hopefully they get things right for the Lakers down the stretch, as opposed to holding a grudge against the team.

I expect the Lakers to win at least 5 games for the rest of this season from favorable officiating. Count on it! The league owes us and I still haven't forgotten about the nixed CP3 trade.

I remember seeing Jordan get so pissed at a missed call he basically headbutted the ref when he got in his face, think it was against the Jazz

If I'm Lebron I would have done that to at least get my money's worth

In fairness to James, the NBA apologized for the missed call. But, obviously, it was too little, too late there. That being said, while plenty joked about LeBron and his response, others weren’t so kind. Former NBA star Chandler Parsons blasted James for his energized response.

Via NBACentral, Parsons said, “I can watch my French Bulldog get ran over by the Mailman right now, and I would not react like that.”

38 year old's get pain and it usually doesn't get better. I expect him to wear down as the season goes on. This should not be a surprise to anyone.

Parsons sftu. If someone ran over my dog, Lebrons missed call outrage would be 1/10th of the outrage I’d have.

I'm not sure if the referees union has ever issued a statement about a missed call before.
