Lonzo had a triple double last night for the Bulls

Caruso had a fantastic slam dunk.

They are 2-0, look good.

Why do our former players seem to play better when they leave?

Playing LeBron ball is difficult for most players especially young players.

There is also the pressure of playing in the Lakers spotlight. We see it with all these shooters bricking shots in PnG uniform.

Lonzo should look better in year five than in year two.

It's nice to see Lonzo getting trip-dubs and Caruso can still throw it down.

Playing well and actually doing something that matters is different. I love zo, but so far he has been trash. Dlo trash. Jr good. Bi, good but can’t impact wins. We know kuz will look better but he was here for a while. JC is nice.

Caruso has really come into his own. He is really the only Laker I hated letting go, but oh wells.

Just wanted to say this before this gets moved to 'General bball'

Lebrons whole career has been championship or bust. The Laker franchise is championship or bust. It’s no surprise that most crumble under that pressure. Heck not even just young guys…I’d wager most stars would be affected by those circumstances

It’s lowly Detroit, but still…this squad got defensive swag for days…

https://twitter.com/WorldWideWob/status/1452079558404960256

I understand why the coaches want to implant a new motion offense and want to move AD to the 5 for spacing issues, but if our defense suffers, I ain’t with it. Our defense has to get back to top 5 under Vogs, like it has been over the years, in spite of the defensive players we lost this offseason.

AD can't hit threes. So spacing issues wouldn't be solved.

This video demonstrates having good perimeter defenders is just as important as having defensive bigs inside which is completely what Pelinka neglected

It was stupid to let him go because of a cheap ownership and prioritizing fancy names over players who already perfomed well in our team. But we all already knew that.

It doesn’t matter tho…cause as long as AD and Bron stay injury-free, we’ll be o…ohhh.

Too soon?

Did he help our perimeter defense and by association AD’s defensive load the last two years?

Are we a repeater tax offender?

Are we hard-capped?

Are we done with tfe rhetorical questions yet?

We couldnt pay him, not elite defender, easily replaceable, just a role player, taxes and more taxes...

Not in the playoffs, that overall impact did not help enough.

In the playoffs he flamed out and was a liability overall.

He shot 29% from 3, scored about 5.8 points per game.
His OBPM was a -5.4
He had a -0.1 win share in the playoffs.

For whatever he brought on D, not only did it not contain Cameron Payne, or Booker, it also meant we were playing 4 on 5 on offense.

I know we all dislike that Melo or Monk are the opposite in a way where they are strong threats on offense, but defensively challenged. But, with Caruso. While I love this guy, and still root for him in Chicago, he didn't strike me as a guy who proved he was worth 10M a year to a championship level team.

Again look at his playoff numbers against the Suns, Caruso was a liabiilty on O, and Payne/Book/Paul all had their way with him.

Who did Caruso exactly stop in the Suns series where he showed this immense value that we had to sign him at 10M per for 4 years?

Try to understand we tried to keep him. However he priced himself out, with the Chicago deal. Good for him, he is a great dude and I love him and wish him well. However we had bigger fish to fry.

We had a PG who was asking for 100M when his value was of a backup PG. So we needed to attain a starting PG. We had THT, who whether we agree or not (I don't think he will be a star, but the jury is out on his potential) the Lakers view as a big time asset and needed to re-sign. We needed shooters, as the Suns just left our role players wide open all series long.

Even though we sacrificed defense for offense, we were doing the same with Caruso, just at a reverse. If you ran Caruso/Westbrook. Lord, no team is going to defend the perimeter on those guys. We had to find guys that compliment Westbrook and that's why we went for Baze, Nunn, Ellington, Monk etc. All those guys a) way cheaper than Caruso and b) can shoot 3s or do something that compliments Westbrook's style. And again, none of those guys cost 10M a year.

This to me always came down to THT vs Caruso. The Lakers chose THT. Maybe you think they didn't need to. That's easy to say when it's not your money. It's Jeannie's and her family's money and they went with a budget. For the price Caruso would cost them, they got 5 other vet min players. Think about that.

Now again, you ask me to pick between THT vs Caruso, I totally get the argument for the "now" to chose Caruso. I loved Alex's time as a Laker. But truth is his value was even less than KCP. He was not a starter. He was a liability on offense as a 3 point shooter against the Suns. He was not a PG, who could create. And based on the Suns series, he didn't really defend anyone at an elite level. If there's a guy that I wish we could have kept, it's KCP. KCP defends multiple positions, from bigger 3s to smaller 1s. He's also been a big time shooter in the NBA Finals. But to get talent, you got to give some up. KCPs deal at 13M per is also quite solid. If I'm going to pay someone 10-13M a year, on a contender with max contracts like AD/Bron/Westbrook. The dude better be ready to start and play big minutes around those 3.

Which again, makes you wonder what THT is worth and whether he would even be kept if he doesn't prove to be worth that. I mean, you're getting 17 ppg from Melo as a vet min. Baze, a vet min guy. These guys are bringing value as vet min players. That's the blue print the Lakers decided on the moment they traded for Westbrook. It's been a risk and I'm sure one that will be debated all season. For me, I'm just not sure THT is worth the money we gave him. Lets see what he brings.

And we have a lesser chance of winning a title with a healthy Bron/AD, Westbrook, Melo, Ariza, Bazemore, Ellington, Dwight, Nunn, THT, Monk, Bradley etc.?

We're about in the same boat, IMO. Probably more talent now but less cohesion, and less talent last year but a bit more cohesion. Think fans are forgetting how easy it was for the Suns to just leave our shooters open and dare them to beat them. That was a major liability, as was Dennis' inability to be consistent at getting to the rim.
