3 Year Contract Extension.

The LA Times backtracked and said they don't know the exact duration of the contract extension.

So it's up in the air.

Good...the optics on that would have been FO rewards “yes man” on a new 3 year deal.

Vogs is a DC...not a HC imho. Hopefully that doesn’t hurt us towards the title run.

Frank Vogel told @billoram there’s a level of sacrifice required to make three superstars fit together. He also said he expects the Lakers will be a dynamic fast-breaking team that is capable of playing through LeBron James, Anthony Davis or Russell Westbrook.

They are making it pretty clear that was the issue last season.

Now all of them gone lol.

Hope Vogel got a good deal, he may not be a offensive coach, but I think his defense is worth him getting a contract extension.

The way the Lakers get breaks is not by pushing the ball every possession or playing high pace basketball.

It’s by speed off defensive stops (rebounds quick outlets) or defensive forced turnovers that lead to breaks.

The ability of a Westbrook when he gets a board
Bron when he gets a board

You got AD who can at the 5 be a great post sprinter same for Dwight.
And you added some relatively quick shooting wings, guys that can get up the floor and spot up for 3 (Monk, Baze, Melo etc).

We’re not gonna be a team that plays SSOL or very high tempo I think in that regard. Pace will be still average league wise.

But fastbreak points are about defensive stops and how good your rebounders are at passing ... and now we have TWO all time elite rebound+pass guys in Westbrook and James. This is what Frank Vogel means IMO.

He’s not saying this older team will play high pace in the half court and play a track meet style game. No, just, the fast breaks will be there and this team should dominate this way when they play good defensive basketball. It starts with stops though, stops + get Bron or Westbrook the ball + AD or Dwight post sprint = easy baskets

The key will be to find the defensive lineups. A balance. We got a lot of guys that can score, but we need to find the combos that get stops. Can Melo play on a defensive lineup ala Kuz? Can Monk? But when we get stops - no team has a lethal duo like Westbrook and James to push the break. Add AD at the 5 as a post sprinter ... it’s not fair.

Yes, agreed. There will be many occasions especially in the playoffs where 1-2 wing players can take a breather after a stop because we’d have a 2 on 3 or 3 on 4 fast break led by LeBron or Westbrook and still get a bucket or a foul (more rest). Like in the 80s. Magic, Worthy and Byron Scott could take on any combination of 3-5 defenders in the open court (Kareem was always in the backcourt whenever Magic or Worthy got a rebound with space, LOL).

See this is a bit disingenuous from MJST…sure you can’t rely on fastbreak 100%, but there is a strategy to what Vogel is saying which was one of the strong points of the 2019-20 team.

The Lakers ability to be elite on the fast break helped them keep teams off the boards.

2020-21 season the Lakers weren’t a fast break team and they got abused on the glass. That’s literally how most of their inferior opponents beat them…with all the 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities.

The 2019-20 team was an elite one and done team because the opponent wouldn’t crash the boards, fearing the Lakers ability to run.

It was a pretty glaring difference. So when Vogel says they will be a fastbreak team, what he means is the opponent will be kept honest by the Lakers elite breakout ability and it’s true…

To initiate a fast break you have to take the ball out of the basket. Russell is an excellent rebounder. Man, to see ShowTime again would be better than ice cream, cookies, and Halle Berry.

Frank Vogel's job isn't getting any easier.

The Lakers did finally grant Vogel his long overdue contract extension on Aug. 6 to ensure that he would not enter this season as a lame duck with an expiring deal, but the ongoing lack of clarity about the extension specifics has led to the presumption in coaching circles that only one season has been tacked on despite the championship Vogel won in his first season in L.A.

Seriously WTF. Budenholzer just got a 3-year extension. The cheapness of this organization beyond superstars is maddening.

We still need to play faster in the halfcourt too, especially now that we have three big-time scorers, plus better 3-point shooting and maybe an improved THT.

We struggle offensively when we milk the clock in our halfcourt sets. We can't do that. When we have nothing in transition, we need to look for quick-hitters and immediately flow into our halfcourt offense.

I kind of feel sorry for Vogel, we made all these changes after we won the championship. They didn't work ; but if we had remained healthy, I think we still had a shot.

Now we dump out like 7 guys from last years roster, and bring back a mostly new cast, at least to Vogel anyway.

It's sort of like one of those reality cooking shows on TV, where they give you a bunch of ingredients, then tell you to make a French pastry , and then tell you an hour in to it, to make it with an Indonesian salad.

I hope it works, and if it does, Vogel should get a lot of credit.

I don’t think a 1 year extension is some kind disrespect to Vogel, Lakers probably know this is there best chance to capture another championship with Murray out .. Kawhi out and the question mark of Klay, Lakers are banking on everything working out and if it doesn’t they will likely replace Vogel, the Lakers haven’t fielded a team as talented as this in a long time so they expect domination.
