Davis was voted to the All 75 Team. So yeah, this is pretty stupid.
JVG clearly has issues with Lakers. probably PTSD from Kobe years. he did recently say this about bron:
The numbers are going to be there. But when you get to that level, it’s about how much can you drive winning. The Lakers have not been good the last couple of years. It may not be his fault. But it is his responsibility. That’s how you’re judged. You set this incredible standard. He’s still playing individually well more so on offense than on defense. But they’re just not very good. He’s a part of that. He had a large part with who’s on the roster. It’s a hard position.
In regard to AD. When I think of his career he wouldn't be in my HOF but neither would be a ton of guys. The HOF should be reserved for the elite of the elite players or contributors. _________________ Kobe.

If Connie Hawkins or Bob McAdoo are in the Hall of Fame, then why wouldn't AD?
He's been a disappointment in terms of his health, but he's already exceeded other forwards who had a burst of brilliance and then were derailed by injuries.

That’s equally a no-brainer. A HOFer who wins a title as a Laker as arguably the best player on that team is going in the rafters. _________________ 14-5-3-12

no way. not if it ended today. he does not (neither does bron) belong next to those other jerseys. That is actually sacred unlike the HOF
Gasol is having his jersey retired in March. He did win 2 titles with us though. And was on the team for 6 years. I don't know the history of the old timers, but Gasol seems like the closest comp.

Wilt played for the Lakers for 5 years IIRC and won 1 title. AD is on his 4th season right now, so probably a solid comp there. Who knows what will happen, but it's possible AD plays with the Lakers another few years at least.

Youre talking about an icon. AD IIRC has missed what equates to an entire season. I literally forget sometimes he's on the team.
Yes, Wilt is an icon, but you don't need icon status to make it to the rafters. The Lakers certainly have the highest bar to clear in the league (HOF only), but players like Wilkes have made it. Wilkes was an amazing player, no doubt, but only a 3x All-Star and certainly not an icon. AD is on the NBA's Top 75 and may eventually catch up to Wilkes' 9 years with the Lakers.

We can disagree. You cant tell the lakers story without wilkes. AD is footnote to the bubble. Even Bron who has led us to the lottery twice has a story with us. Not jersey worthy but AD << Fisher, LO, Fox, if we are being honest _________________ Kobe.

AD led the 2020 title team in PPG during the playoffs and had a higher FG%, 3P%, and FT% than LeBron during that playoff run. He was also a strong DPOY candidate during that regular season. Hardly a footnote.
Let's not devalue AD or diminish his accomplishments because of frustration over his injuries over the last three seasons. Can we celebrate his greatness, as well as lament the injuries? I'm sure you know AD would much rather be playing than be on the sidelines.

he's great but even though the bubble title counts he hasn't done much other than a 15 game stretch this year. Its ok. There are players, 3 listed above that I hold in much higher regard when it comes to being lakers and none of them will sniff the rafters and that's ok too. _________________ Kobe.

The Lakers have a strict HOF-only policy on jersey retirements (which I personally love), but would I also love to find a way to honor Fisher, Fox, Odom, Horry, or even Scott and Cooper? Absolutely. I just don't see that as any reason to justify AD not being on the rafters.
I think Pau 100% deserves the honor but I can see the argument for having to draw the line in a way that allows future players to use numbers that aren’t 94 and 73.
They are going to have to put LeBron up there so it’s getting more and more crowded.

I am fine with pau being up there and I love Pau but he was the baseline for me. If he wasn't going up I would get it. Pau is a great laker during an incredible era. _________________ Kobe.

As for the HOF i would struggle to vote for a player who averages 57 games a season over a 10+ year career. I know there are some in the Hall that fit that criteria but I don’t agree with them being there. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Just keep in mind two of those seasons were shortened due to Covid, and one of those seasons the Pelicans were sitting him after he requested a trade. And despite that he actually averaged 60.4 games per season. You can't count this season as a full season when it's under halfway complete.
It would be interesting though if his career ended today. I think he still makes it pretty easily, even right now. 8 time all-star, 4 time all-defensive, 4 time first team all-NBA, 3 time block champion, and an NBA champion. That is enough.
Spend some time in nature today. Whether it’s a hike, a leisurely walk, or even just sitting by a lake. Anything for some fresh air.
Comparing an MVP caliber player to a guy who was inferior to Van Exel - Fisher, LO who was only all star caliber the year he won 6th man of the year and a guy who never threatened to make an all star team whether in LA or Boston in Fox. You offer prime LO, Fox and Fisher for AD and u get laughed out of the room

It’s not about better player. As I noted, I think, it’s about better lakers. Davis claim to fame is an asterisk bubble and missing a ton of games.[/quot
