Excited for Austin and THT next year if not traded

same thing was said for THT every summer since he came, and after he got that big contract, he regressed this season. even worse 3 point shooting and FG%. he is like a mini westbrook no without passing and rebounding, so he is a bad fit next to Lebron and AD. i'd invest in Monk and AR and trade THT

Yes I know you don’t like him as a player lol.

Thanks for your thoughts!

i liked him a lot before this season, and excited like you, but this season really changes my opinion. a young player regress this much after his first big contract is never a good sign.

Blame out Front office for bringing in Russ, forcing THT to play small forward when clearly he needs to play point. This season was a mess for him. He had hand surgery in his shooting hand, Covid, and a lingering ankle sprain. It’s like taking a quarterback and saying we need a wide receiver so that’s what you are going to play. That’s your role on this team. And Vogel saying has was going to be a stopper? Vogel admitted at the end he wasn’t there yet. This along with Lebron’s “he’s special “ and our front office messing up his contract ( he should be still on his rookie deal) made expectations crazy for a 2nd round pick with unique length and slashing ability. Either we get a coach who can play him in the right role and we trade Russ, or hope he gets traded to a place that he can shine.

why do we blame Russ and the Front office for THT regressing in all areas? he actually shot more this year, and played more.
his defense struggles comes on PnR and help situations which he doesn't know where to go, he was a good one on one defender, this comes back to film study, how can reaves knows where to go on defenses but a 3rd year guy under Vogel like THT doesn't?
he shot more and played more this season, so if anything, Russ got him more open shots. how do you blame Front office and Russ with THT shooting worse compare to last few seasons? most of his 3s are wide open, and he chose those stupid one legged fadeaways himself. basically, he attacked the basket less which taking more low percentage mid range shots. another sign of Low BBIQ.
i don't see how he can play Point guard for us, he can't even make a proper inbound pass. we have Reaves and Nunn for next year, and even Monk is much better at playmaking than him.
he is a 2nd round pick, so i am not sure how did we messing up his contract, he was due for a raise with the performances in the first 2 seasons, and then he regressed a lot this season by not working hard in the gym and the film room.

He started the season out on fire. I expect more of the same next year. The kid is still only 21.

Playing alongside Russ, and sometimes also in lineups with Dwight, Johnson, or Jordan, as well as Reaves to a lesser extent put multiple non-shooters on the floor at the same time. The equates to a congested lane which hurts slashers more than anyone. It forces you to take more jump shots or if you force it inside it gives you a lower quality look. It had a negative effect on both THT and Westbrook.

Last season 73.2% of THT's shots came within three feet where he shot 52.2%. This season only 66.2% of his shots were at that range and his efficiency dropped to 49.2%.

Last season he shot threes when he was wide open. He took more off the dribble threes this season and a higher frequency of them in general. Last season 26.8% of his shots were threes, this year they made up 33.8% of his shots. His percentage dropped from 28.2% to 26.9%. The average distance of his shots rose from 10.3 feet last season to 12.8 feet this season.

His shooting needs to improve. It will make or break his career. It didn't this season which is disappointing. Part of the drop in percentage (1.3% isn't a large number) is that he was taking more threes. His ability to drive to the basket was certainly negatively affected by the roster makeup though.

We can acknowledge that he wasn’t good as we hoped while at the same time he was not put in a good position to succeed.

Not sure where the narrative he didn’t work on his game or watch film came from.

Flat out he was a bad fit with Russ and Lebron. He’s never been an off ball player so he had a hard time adjusting to it.

Man needs to work on his shooting.

He is basically playing like a scrub, but is making a lot of money.

Either start balling or go over to Ukraine and try your hand at killing some Russians. You can't be any worse at shooting bad guys than you are shooting a basketball.

Found it interesting that Anthony Edwards, who is just 9 months younger than THT and scored 30 in the Play In game said he shoots in the evening at the gym with a coach every day. THT should be doing morning and night sessions too.

This was THT's first year on the other teams scouting reports. If he comes back with no improvements then year I'd be worried, but I'll give him a chance to get better with the understanding of how teams are planning for him.

Well, that's kinda the difference between a #1 pick and the 46th pick. People should expect nothing less than expect star/superstar level play from a top 5 pick. Edwards has high expectations, and he's going to be really good. Perhaps a top 10 player in a few years.

So he played much better when he was a more focal point of the offense

Might be a good time to cash that chip....would give Reaves more time as they play the same position?

Work on his game to shoot worse from the 3 and all areas? Studied the film so hard that he doesn’t know where to go on double teams and PNRs after 3 years of in the same system?

I recall some stuff about him coming into the season about working on his handles, his left hand dribbling, smoothness and so forth. You all probably watched him more than I, did he handle the ball well? I did notice that he played more minutes than last year, but his turnovers came down some. Perhaps he handled the ball a lot less in those minutes though, not sure.

You’re so pressed dude lol.

I just said he didn’t have a great year and didn’t improve like we hoped.

But I doubt he was lazy and didn’t work on his game at all like you’re implying.

He’s 21. You can work on your game all summer long but until the game slows down for you it’s not gonna look great right away.

He needs reps and he didn’t get that. His role and fit were also never carved out for him.

It’s okay to acknowledge that he didn’t improve as much as needed and he was also not put in a position to succeed.

Let’s not make assumptions that he didn’t work on his game.

Calm Tf down geez lol

Besides Westbrook, was THT the most disappointing Laker player this past season?

Not really... Bad roster and line-ups stunned his growth this year tbh... I expect him to be much better next season with Westbrook gone.

THT showed great flashes but expectations were high since we picked him over Caruso.

For that reason he was a disappointment.

Bazemore - he was supposed to be the KCP replacement and a likely starter

No, easily AD. Actually more even than Westbrook for me. And that's saying something. THT was a disappointment though.

The projection was he might become a good defender. We shouldn't give him excuses on that end.
