Germany was lucky to advance to the round of 16, and that England/Germany match on Tuesday should be good. Italy, the tournament darling, almost lost if not for a VAR offsides call, but they rallied well after that. Looking forward to watching the Portugal match next!

The Netherlands is pretty weak without VVD, expected to drop out early when the team's talisman is Memphis.

Portugal about to drop to Belgium. Surprising to see Portugal held scoreless against that Belgian defense.

Portugal had most of the possession in the 2nd half and came close to scoring twice, but couldn't get the equalizer. De Bruyne and one of the Hazards (not the goal scorer) left with injuries, which could be a big factor with Belgium facing Italy on Friday.

Italy did escape on that VAR decision, but it was most certainly the right decision, as the player was clearly offside because of the stupid offside rule lol. (I think it should be if ANY part of your body is NOT beyond the last defender, it's onside lol.)

Great draw for England, as they will be strong favorites to get through to the semifinal now.

Ridiculous red card given to the Swiss player late in the 2nd half, but it's 1-1 Switzerland vs. Spain as we head to the 2nd half of extra time.

De Bruyne will start for Belgium, while Hazard is out, in their upcoming quarterfinal against Italy.

Italy is hanging on to a 2-1 lead in the 2nd half, but Immobile is playing one of the worst games I've ever seen from a striker. Every one of his touches have been awful. He looks worse than a run-of-the-mill MLS striker. I'm stunned they haven't replaced him. Can't stress enough how terrible he looks.

Just as I wrote that, Italy subbed him off lol. Finally.

I am hooked on this tournament and have watched at least parts of almost every match...including from work

To me Italy and England look to be the teams to beat, but certainly anything can happen and I am holding out hope that the Czech Republic can continue their amazing run vs. Denmark tomorrow.

Denmark gets a completely undeserved corner which they convert while the Czech players were arguing. Brutal call.

England with another clean sheet. Shaw and Maguire have been brilliant this tournament. Brief Rashford/Sancho cameo to whet my appetite for the upcoming season!

I liked what I saw with Sancho. England had a good draw in the QF, and it must be said that they have a good draw with Denmark as well, inspired as they may be. They'd also be at home in a potential final.

Spain have clearly been the better side today, but it's 1-1 with Italy as we near the end of the 1st half of extra time. Feels like Italy is just hanging on for penalties, at this point. Spain have dominated possession and Italy have been really sloppy when they've actually had the ball, poor touch quality, turnovers, the whole bit.

Italy survive and win on PK's, against the run of play, for sure. Sometimes I know you have to do that at the highest level, though.

I don't know, but I thought Italy was the better team up until they let Morata through the middle for the 1-1. Seems Italy was in shock after the 1-1 and from that point onwards they were just trying not to lose.

England score off a rebound on a very controversial PK in extra time. They lead 2-1 as the 2nd half of extra time are about to begin. It looked like Sterling just flopped down and there was little, if no, contact on his leg. Pretty weak call in a major tournament semifinal in extra time. Upheld by VAR.

I'm pulling hard for England. I really want them to win this one. I was disappointed when they didn't win after making it to the semis of the WC, but I think they have a legit chance here and I want them to cash in.

Messi finally got his international trophy, although he rather brutally blew a glorious chance that would've put Argentina up 2-0 very late. Still, they held on. Happy for him to have finally done it.
