What Jeannie really needs to do is even the playing field. She’s competing with billionaires and the landscape has changed. She needs outside capital and counsel. Our inability to go deep into the luxury tax is preventing us from some our natural competitive advantages.

To win a championship, it requires rosters that go well past the luxury tax. I’m hoping she can look at alma mater USC and see what Lincoln Riley has done in the past year. Going outside the family is her best route.

What she needs to do is to hire the best people available and GTFO of the way.

I agree but the problem is that she obviously does not understand that because she hires her friends and Pelinka who was Kobe's agent.

Despite having Lebron, our team have been a failure.

Her reasoning and logic is clearly lacking.

had he just stuck to his guns and not cave to Bron/ad. No Russ and instead heild+ someone else.

Holy cow!

Apparently nothing has changed.

Time to find a new hobby because the Lakers are doomed.

I always wonder why Rob Pelinka changed the Lakers so much after the 2020 Championship.

But I always had this taught on the back of my mind it had something to do with Pelinka and Magic.

I remember Magic saying when he was president the Lakers should have all players on the team at least 6'5". In other words use length. I think the 2020 Lakers followed this strategy and it worked.

But I taught maybe Rob Pelinka wanted to forge his own path and create a team his own way..thus, the reason for the drastic change in the roster since 2020 and that didn't really use "length" as their central core theme...but rather "star" power.

What? Magic trying to blame everyone other than himself and Jeanie? That's a shocker. Who could have seen that coming?

Magic was a great player. However, there have been a lot of great players who sucked at management or coaching. Bill Russell was Exhibit A. Isiah Thomas made Russell look like a genius. Joe Dumars crippled the Pistons so badly that they still haven't come back.

Magic was unqualified and incompetent as a basketball executive. In fact, his only qualification of any sort was his connection to the glory days of the '80s. So he wants to tell you that it isn't Jeanie's fault and that it is all because of those other people? That is a load of BS. Jeanie did not hire competent basketball people to run the front office. She hired incompetent people, starting with Magic. This is 100% Jeanie's fault. So Magic wants to tell you that the other people drowned out his voice? Maybe, just maybe, this was because he was a wishy-washy sycophant who really didn't have much to say and who really wasn't willing to do the hard work of running a front office.

We'll always honor Magic as a player. But really, it would be better if he just shut up, quit patting himself on the back, and quit trying to shield Jeanie from the criticism she deserves.

Jeanie gave the architect of this a multi-year extension, coming off perhaps the most disappointing season in recent memory.

Perfectly illustrated why Jeanie is incapable of such a huge task. She's like a virgin when it comes to managing people and managing the front office. Her previous job of taking care of the business side was easy.

She's clueless so she hires a clueless GM as well so together they could use the Lakers a their training ground. First time GM and first time owner, the perfect marriage.

Now, I feel bad for Magic. If he didn't have full autonomy as a GM, then maybe a lot of the moves wasn't his fault. We don't know which ones were his. We do now that right now we are terrible and the current front office have been making all the decisions.

Magic was a disaster, he had no clue what he was doing. The Zubac-Muscala trade alone should make it blasphemous to mention his name in a FO comment. The deal he offered to New Orleans for AD was even worse than the deal that Pelinka made.

She runs the team like a CMO all about marketing. If Lebron is going to break KAJ scoring record, needs to be in a Laker uniform. With Lebron you sell tickets. Doesn't matter if you win or not. That and she surrounds herself with friends and family, FO has been a train wreck since Dr Buss stepped away. Mosgov and Deng? B Scott as coach? Let Caruso walk when you didn't need to. Trade for Russ instead of adjusting the depth behind AD/Lebron. Refusing to acknowledge the mistake and moving Russ in the offseason.

Jeannie is over her head and is ignoring the fanbase. I once defended her but she doesn't know what she is doing. Ruining the once greatest franchise.

If it's ok to beat these lowly teams, then I guess she's right. If she thinks this is ok, then the standard for the Lakers has been grossly lowered.

Jeanie is obviously the dumbest of the six Dr. Buss kids.
She has zero business sense.
Spends all her energy on Women in Wrestling and nothing on the Lakers.
Every time she is interviewed, she seems so clueless.
Giving Pelinka an extension proves my point.
Trusting Kurt and Linda Rambis on business decisions should be a red flag for Laker fans.
The Ham hire also proves my point. He's not a good head coach.
Approving the Westbrook deal was a huge blunder.
Rather have Joey and Jesse Buss take over.
Or sell the team...

I'd actually like to know what the buss bros were thinking about the Russ trade at the time.

SELL THE (bleep) TEAM.

You are no different than Dolan, Steinbrenner Jr or the other kid owners.

She’s worse than those mentioned. At least those have serious $$$ to cover their mistakes. Jeannie buss don’t have that luxury, buss family is a mom and pop ownership who has no business in todays nba competing with Billionaires.

I agree, love for her to sell it it’s not because of the Irving deal, make that clear. I am celebrating we didn’t waste our future FRPs + Reaves and/or Christie for a dude so unstable, will likely bolt this summer.
Bravo to the front office for putting what they thought was the best deal and let the cards fall where they fall.
Mavs had the beat available player in the deal, that’s what the Nets wanted.
Nothing the Lakers could do about that.

Work trade in Lakers history not named Deng and Mozgov.
