He just went for the most money. If the Clippers had offered him the same deal as the Hawks, I can't imagine why he wouldn't sign with them.

This. Rondo was looking for his last big contract. Had the Clippers offered him the full MLE at 2 or 3 years, he'd be a Clipper.

No.

To get Playoff Rondo, you need to rest him for long strings of games and monitor his minutes accordingly. The Lakers sort of lucked into that situation as Rondo was injured, which saved his legs. They're already resting Kawhi, doing that with Rondo would certainly hurt their playoff positioning and chemistry.

Why would he want to screw the Clippers? Just because he won a championship with the Lakers doesn't mean he's become a Laker loyalist all of a sudden. He's spent a lot more time in Boston and also won a ring with them.

Rondo doesn’t think like that. He just took the most $.

Doesn’t hurt that ATL has a bunch of young players...Rondo enjoys teaching the young players.

But they wanted him, and a PG, pretty bad. So far, it seems their strengths/weaknesses are the same. They're extremely talented at the wings, and have defensive impact there. At PG, they have some issues on defense when they get offense (Lou) or offense when they get D (Beverly). At C, they got more depth, but still do not have an elite big man player. Meaning when they face off against teams like Denver (Jokic) Suns (Ayton) Dallas (Porzingis) they are going to have 2 mismatches against them right now (at the 5, and 1). They could have stopped the bleeding at one of them (the 1) with playoff Rondo. Plus his IQ/leadership and knowing the blue prints of how to win a ring having just won one with Lakers.

I think Serge is a good niche role player, but a PG is what Kawhi wanted and for reason. Every anticipated playoff contender in their way has an all-star level big man (Porzingis, Ayton) or superstar big man (AD, Jokic) they have to deal with, and then can also expose the lack of defense/offense they get from Lou or Beverly.

They probably won't admit it, but I bet they are doing everything they possibly can to get another PG and/or star level big.

I don't think players are as petty as fans would like to imagine them to be. LOL! They go where the money is. If anything, it's a slight to Rondo the Lakers didn't offer him the contract Atlanta did.
