I think AD was right with his comment of let "westbrook be westbrook".
I mean who has the bbiq to adapt? Russ or LBJ? This is a rhetorical question. Lebron can make nearly any situation work for him. He's just that good and that smart. The same is not true for Russ.
Not saying Russ is dumb, but most bb players are only capable of playing "their game". Stray much from that metric and they "disappear" on the court. |

So lakers are trying to let Westbrick be Westbrick and accomplish something no other WB's teams did before...wow... |

If Westbrick be Westbrick, then best Lakers could do is WCF cuz I don't think WB has ever gotten to the NBA Finals let alone win it. You have the best playmaker in the game who is almost automatic 2 or 3 points every time he handles the ball and you don't want it but instead you'd let "WBrick be WBrick" aka handles the ball the entire the game and get his awesome triple doubles, just so he'd be useful in the game. Nice plan, AD.
What about the defense? How 'bout AD just worry bringing his own defensive intensity every game? Over 110 points allowed first two games. If we can't score, then don't let the other team score. Listen to Howard. Every defensive assignment needs to executed properly. Take defense more seriously.
If you used Lebron purely as a 3-pt shooter, then it's better to have Hield in there. Statistically, Hield is a better 3-pt shooter than Lebron. Forreal. _________________ LeGoat! LeMazing! LeGend! |

Russ is the only player in the NBA that can go 5/15 with 9 turnovers and you’re thinking he had a great game. |

He'll opt out for a max extension regardless of performance. _________________ Under New Management

I don't think he had a great game at all. Clear, he is still trying to figure things out. 9 TOs way too much. Lebron was handling the ball a lot, so Westbrook is not the sole PG to have that high a TO number.
Ok game. He's gone from awful, to kind of bad, to ok. The trend is upward, but still so far he's had flashes. Not consistency good. I know the standard is very high for Russell, but it is what it is when you're paid 40M and a former MVP. The Lakers need better play from him, and I can only hope he will improve.
For the season, he is still shooting in the mid-30s. |

Westbrook is struggling playing off the ball way too much _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. Some of those TO’s were not his fault, amazing rebound in traffic, mugged by three Grizzlies, no call, turnover in the books. Just wait for DB write up, I can’t remember all of them off the top of my head. I think another one was a drive and kick to Lebron in the corner, got a fingertip deflection, Lebron couldn’t catch it, turnover in the books.

While it's nice that WBrick could help handling the ball for Lebron, the problem arises when Lebron has the ball, it becomes harder for Lebron to operate if teams don't respect WBrick's shooting. WB's jumpshot will be tested a lot so we'll see how that will work out.
Tonight's win is nice but it's against an average team on a back-to-back. It's nice to build some chemistry and some continuity going before playing against the big boys, then we'll see what we really have. _________________ LeGoat! LeMazing! LeGend! |

WB had a much better performance than the prior games. Outside of the turnovers and so-so defense, everything else was falling into place.
One step at a time, we're headed in the right direction. |

So 5-15fg, 1-4 from 3, 2-4 ft is falling into place.
The current Laker team would be a better without WB. Addition by subtraction. |

Bron is a ball pounder majority of passes are to get it back. Hes way better off ball than Russ is.
Let Russ run team. We were playing well that way |

Using Westbrook as a screener/short roller is an interesting wrinkle to build on. |

We ran those same plays with Dennis/Lebron last year. In some games very effective, others no. That's what I've been kind of presuming with Westbrook. Warts and all. He'll end up being in the same role as Dennis, only unlike Dennis, he may be worth the downsides and actually warrants being a starting PG/floor general on a ring level team.
You certainly saw some brilliant stuff when AD was in the corner as a 5, Westbrook set a screen for Bron, with Baze/Melo spotting up. Hard to really defend those sets. |

I believe that we brought him in hoping we could use Bron as hybrid PF alongside him

Not begrudging your last point but there's no doubt that he played better tonight than the first two games (particularly in the 1st half). |

Yep, it's going upward, but still not exactly what we want.
Awful, kinda bad, to ok. We're at ok. Not exactly what you want from a 40+M a year player and MVP guy. I do think as the Lakers find more and more minutes where AD is at that 5 spot, and we are more free flowing, Russell will start to look better.
To his RW's credit, at least he seems like he is willing to be a 3rd option and not forcing himself on the team like some feared. |
