Now that we actually got some decent guards, that might not be a bad idea.
However, I hope that's plan E. With trade options being plans A-D. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!!
I don't think they are. It's too much egg in Rob/Jeanie's face to do that, and it's a huge sum (maybe a reason why other teams are not eager to trade for a player they have to buy out).
His 47m deal (while probably at best fetching a 6m MMLE if he was a FA this summer) makes him nearly unmoveable. We've seen him in every trade permeation possible and everyone requires the Lakers to compensate the other team a 1st rounder just to dump Russ's contract. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Now why would Jeanie buy out Russ. Even if he’s a disaster it will make more sense to trade him than give him free money. At the trade deadline that contract is gonna have value to someone _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

Around 5 minutes, basically describes toward the end of the season last year..the Lakers were running 4 up 1 with Drive and Kick where WB was used as a off-ball screener, cutter, and secondary shoot/playmaker maker among other things. And WB was averaging around 22 pt, 9.3 asssits, 8.5 rebounds with 52% shooting, 47% 3 point.
And the intent of Darvin Ham is to use WB in a similar way. Perhaps there is some hope that WB could work this season?

Because bad energy on the team and taking back bad contracts

What bad energy? Showing up for the teammates at presss conferences? Working with the youth on the team? Showing up to support the coach? What bad energy are we talking about? _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

I think Russ has several different personas.
He did show up to press conferences and sat by the SPL league team.
But last season, widespread reports that he bristled at any criticism from coaching staff. He didn't take being benched to close games well on and off the court. He basically threw everyone from the coaches to his other teammates under the bus at the exit interview, having little or no introspection about his role in the disastrous season. We don't get to see what's going on in the background, but the Lakers have had his name on the trading block since December 2021.
How he reacts to a reduced role, possible benching, and having to compete with Dennis/Bev/Nunn/Reaves for playing time will be interesting. First time in his career where his minutes/role have been so openly challenged by the team's personnel moves. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
For where this team is today, and based on what this team needs, both DS and Pat Bev are better for the Lakers than Russ. Sounds insane to say, but its true.
Still hoping for a trade, but not overly optimistic at this point in the offseason.

Paying him $47 mil to sit home doesn’t seem like a Jeanie move _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
If i am another team, i know the lakers are desperate to get rid of brick and add value players. even for average players i am asking 2 picks and 2 swaps(whatever it is) to help them

Brother you have strong hate for Westbrook that’s really unfair. Westbrook family was treated horrible by Lakers fans and he also unfairly had the results of last season placed on him. So yea he called Lebron and AD out because there was a discuss last summer where Everyone claimed they was gonna a sacrifice but Westbrook was the only one asked to sacrifice. I understand he’s the third best so that’s likely but that wasn’t the discussion he had with the stars. An exit interview isn’t being a locker room cancer. Even Reeves said Russ didn’t cause any behind the scenes distraction but here you are claiming one. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

It is hard to believe Westbrook has no value to the Lakers right now.
Sure a big mistake was made in getting him.
But it would be a mistake to try to trade him now. He is untradeable
at his salary. Only way is to attach two FRPs which is stupid and desperate
Will not get anything of value back that would make a difference.
The best thing is to see him he can be a good teammate and integrate
with the team.
Next year will have money to find players. And not mess up the future for years to come.

I think Myles is the guy they have they’re eyes on. He fits under the 30 mill. We can sign another player at the MLE and I’m sure Lonnie will be reuping his contract because he’s not gonna have a great season. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

If he is our 6th man he actually has tons of value. But once he is inserted into a lineup of AD and LBJ his value is negative. I don't get why the coaching staff and FO keep letting him call all the shots when he is clearly just a role player now.
Come off the bench or don't play. There is not a single good reason he should start this year and everyone knows it. The only way he does is if the team is ran by incompetent people who can't handle confrontation
ownership needs to swallow their pride and pay him to stay home. are you really going to keep giving him minutes if all he does is make your team worse? and him being replaced as a starter for players who have been career bench players he isnt going to go over well so just keep him away.

I could be more supportive of Russ if he was our bench lead guard. Start Bev or Dennis, have Russ come off the bench and operate the 2nd unit without LBJ. But not sure his ego and the Laker's pride will allow that. Both parties are going to try to force this "we have a 3rd superstar and Ham will fix everything" narrative that is unrealistic IMO. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Not saying NBA 2k has any bearing on anything at all (even though stars like KD seem to be easily triggered by their ratings there), but even they know Russ is no where near being our 3rd 'star'
is gonna be a fire 2nd unit.
Russ surrounded by hustle guys and a 3ball big, gonna at least be better than last year. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!!

Having him as a bench lead makes so much sense. But too much politics involved. He would actually do better IMO in that setting not playing alongside LBJ. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
FWIW, LeBron’s camp in San Diego is today it will be interesting to see if Westbrook will be there and how he will interact with LeBron and AD if both are there.
