I agree that he's been playing much better since moving to the bench. It's nice to have him coming in when the Lakers starters are in a lull, and he can instantly change the speed of the game. I mainly just took issue to the one guy showed up comment, especially when you added last year to it.

There is a lot of passion about discussing his contract. Now it’s fair to keep the same intensity about his teammates contracts.

As noted Russ is in his final year. His contract is actually good. The others not so much.

Russ needs to play like a $47M player because that's where most of our cap went.

Bron makes a lot. Way overpaid. AD had 2 pts in the second half iirc. Way overpaid.

One guy shows up. Shows up this year. Showed up last year. He can only do so much if bron and AD are average.
Be grateful this is his last year. 3 more for bron. Yikes

Bron already got us a ring. This year, even if he's declining, he still brings value to the franchise by selling tickets. Nobody is coming to see Russ.

We don’t know. If you’re telling me bron is only good with a 4 month mid-season break then we are in trouble.

Again.Russ can only do so much as a 6th man

I’m truly happy for Russ and the MVP chants are well deserved!

But we all can’t just forget before Magic blasted him on the Shannon Sharpe podcast and Darvin moved him permanently to the 6th man role he had games where he went 0-11 against Portland and 1-9 against the Clippers.

I don’t understand the hate Lebron is getting right now. He just got over a stomach virus. He’s obviously turning the corner on his bad play. Both Russ and Lebron are Not the reason we lost today.

Half-life you need to stop pointing the fingers at Lebron just as much as others are pointing the finger at Russ. Its pathetic.

When actually you all should be pointing fingers at our role players and coaching staff for forcing too much small ball when we struggle to shoot. We should go bigger and play to our bully ball strengths imho.
That first half today is the perfect example on how we should execute for 48 minutes every game!

No one forgot, but ham was decisive and made the move early. Anything prior is moot. He has the perfect role. Still overpaid but at least he fits.

The team is painfully flawed but the two superstars arent getting us over the hump. Their salaries are far more detrimental going forward unless they become game changers

People are pointing fingers because they are expecting more than what this team is capable of. This is what we are.

Lebron is old now…what can you do?
AD is injury prone…what can you do?
Russ is a poor fit with Lebron and AD….what can you do?
The vet min guys aren’t difference makers…what can you do?

Sure there are some minor things we could improve on but our ceiling was never that high to begin with. It doesn’t matter who’s getting paid what, this is the ability of the players we have at this point in time.

Russ has played much better in the past 5 games. But to say that he's the only guy who shows up doesn't quite line up.

Lebron: 24 points, 9.1 rebs, 7.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.9 blocks
AD: 23 points, 11 rebs, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals, 2.3 blocks
Russ last 5 games: 18.8 points, 5.8 rebs, 7.2 assists, 0.6 blocks, 1 steal

You cant measure it with numbers. Last season Russ had even better counting stats but nk one will say he was better last season. Do you think James was good this season? AD in the last 2 games is invisible in the 4th quarters

AD needs the ball to score. He had two shot attempts in the second half tonight, one was off a Westbrook drive and feed, and the other was a jumper against the shot clock. They weren't getting him involved. He's not a guard who is going to call his own number. And of course, part of the responsibility of the ball handlers is to get him looks. That's not on him.

He's been rebounding the ball well, he's been scoring well when they've gone to him, and he's having a great season defensively, averaging nearly 2 steals per game.

Lebron looks like something is wrong with him. It could be that he's gotten old, that can happen quickly. Or it could be injuries. His jumper is not looking good. That having been said, he still does a lot of positive things out there. Lebron wasn't bad tonight, airballs aside. He had really looked worn down the past couple games.

The reality though is Lebron is soon to be 38. Even if this current stretch is injury or illness induced (no clue if that is the case), he's going to slowly decline until the point where that accelerates. There's no way around that. It's just a matter of when. He's already lost a ton of quickness.

Russ still has good athleticism. He hadn't really worked on his game though. Free throw shooting isn't something that should get significantly worse as you age, but Russ went from a mid 80s shooter to a mid 60s. He went from a mediocre defender to a poor one. And he was a problem in the locker room. To be honest, I never expected we'd see him recover from this until he was on a different team. But the fact that he's been better, that he didn't complain when he got benched a couple games back down the stretch, and that he has improved his defense, those show that he was capable of doing those things last season.

The fact that Lakers fans are chanting MVP, and giving him loud ovations when he enters the game, is a pretty good indication that the fans don't all have it out for him. This is a guy who had fans groaning when he'd take a three not that long ago. His jumper is looking better. He's playing hard, and winning people over. Similar to what Dwight did a few years ago, except he still has more in the tank.

That's a different scenario though from Lebron. Lebron's struggles right now aren't from checking out. He looks either old, injured, or worn down. He looked better tonight, but the previous couple of games he was getting to the rim and missing shots he'd usually never miss. He just went through a stretch where he missed something like 14 straight threes, and his jumpers look like he has no legs. It's easier for fans to forgive someone when they are unable to do more. It's a matter of unable vs. unwilling.

No one has forgotten how bad Russ was, to start the season. That's exactly why people are so happy for him, now. He fully accepted, even embraced, the sixth man role, and has absolutely thrived since. Even taking into account the bad start, Russ has been the Lakers best player, so far. As for LeBron, he absolutely deserves any finger-pointing coming his way. He's the Lakers "best" player. When the Lakers win, he gets the lions share of the credit. The same goes when the Lakers lose.

Also, lets not forget that LeBron himself has been bad, since the start of the season, The only reason he was getting a pass, was because people were focused on Westbrook, and our teams historically bad shooting. But, LeBron's horrendous play can only be overlooked for so long. This team was built for, and around, LeBron and AD as the leaders. If the leaders continue to play poorly...

No. The Lakers have attempted to build the team around Lebron and AD, and have failed miserably, every year after 2020. Sure they could play better, but we’ll never squeeze the most out of what Lebron and AD are capable of with such a misfit cast of role players surrounding them.

The talent just isn’t there. Take any contending team, switch out 60% of their roster with vet min level talent and see how many wins they get. You can take any of the top 10-15 players (which Lebron and AD are not) give them similar misfit trash and the results wouldn’t be much better.

The contending teams have better top end talent AND better role players than we do.

Lebron and AD need to play better, it will be an uphill battle for them if the role players don’t start playing better as well. The problem is…if our role players could play better…they wouldn’t be on our team taking minimum deals in the first place. We’re kinda screwed yo

The excuses people cling to, regarding roster construction, have been getting stale...and tiring. When you literally have all your money tied up in 3 players, I'm not sure why people were expecting Pelinka to perform miracles with mid-level exceptions, and vet mins, as his only options to sign players. Because guys like Bobby Portis, Malik Monk, and others were just drooling at the opportunity to play for the least possible money. If you want to blame someone for what you feel is poor roster construction, look no further than LeBron/AD. Those two are the reason Russ is here. And, as well as Russ is playing, his contract prohibited the Lakers from having the ability to flesh out the roster. Our role players, while not snipers, are not bad. When you have a depleted LeBron, and a hobbled AD, not lifting the team...yeah, at a casual glance, it's going to look to people like they suck.

Even if this team had the requisite shooters, we would still not be good. Shooting won't heal AD's back. Shooting won't cure LeBron of whatever's ailing him. Just look at the Warriors. No one is going to convince people that they lack shooting. But, there they are, sitting at a robust 3-7. Shooting isn't some mystical panacea.

No, Rob is the reason that we have 3 highly paid players and can’t add anything but minimum talent. That has always been his vision and something he was able to accomplish. Only he picked the wrong 3 highly paid players and is paying the price. Don’t feel sorry for Rob, he made his bed, let him lie in it. If Jeanie had a minimal amount of management knowledge Rob would be out the door.

Really? Because all reports surrounding this issue disagree with your assessment. Contrary to some people's blind belief, Pelinka/Jeanie did NOT go after Westbrook. Pelinka was targeting one of Hield, or DeRozan. Hield would have fielded us a shooter, with some cap space to work with. DeRozan was trickier, and likely to cap us out. That's why most reports stated as the Hield deal being more likely, and closer to getting done. The FO wasn't even looking Westbrooks way.

But, LeBron and AD had been talking to Russ, and felt like they could work together. LeBron and AD went to the FO, and championed for getting Westbrook, over anybody else. The rest is history. Funny thing is, currently, Westbrook is outplaying both LeBron and AD. Go figure...

So Jeanie calling the Wizard owner to help seal the deal never happened? Pelinka working out trade details never happened? Jeanie and Rob signing off on the trade never happened? If your version were correct then Pelinka and Jeanie come off looking more pitiful than they did making the trade.

You're still having trouble realizing that these series of events happened AT THE BEQUEST OF LEBRON AND AD? And, no sir, this is not my version. If you have umbrage, take it up with the media. LeBron and AD being the originators for the Westbrook trade was reported on most major media outlets (and small ones) last season, as well as this season.

Now, if you believe that giving your star players want they want makes the FO look pitiful...so be it.

Rob obviously wanted the Hields trade because everyone involved was thinking it was a done deal until Bron and Ad had dinner with Russ. Rob was basically the scrape goat for that move. He either follows through with the Russ deal or would’ve been shown the door. As far as team buildings goes, he is just mediocre, some hits, some misses.

Most consistent Laker, dare I even say, best Laker so far this season ever since coming off the bench.

Team worst -23 this game but at least he's smiling and having fun. Credit to him and Ham for finding his verve, but Westbrook producing more isn't going to equal the impact of three good rotation players.

So true, I think he is shooting like 45% from the 3 since coming off the bench, FG and FT also went up. Rebounds down, assist up, played far better defense than last season, but the sad thing is that we need him to be our 3rd best player to have a chance

So plus minus is a thing again? Until last game we were +5 with him On the court and -15 without. Was told that it didn’t matter.

Russ is playing really well off the bench. No complaints from me about his on court play.

That being said, the allocation of 47m in cap space for him as a 6th man is one of the reasons why we have no depth. LBJ can’t be traded this season and I doubt they move AD.

So he can play well but it won’t matter bc we simply do not have enough NBA rotation level players.

A large part of his negative +\- was playing alongside a lot of the times 3-4 minimum level players. He was literally carrying that depleted 2nd unit. Can’t blame him for that.

Agree he can’t be traded but please include his salary into the category of being a ridiculous overpay that he won’t live up to.
At least Russ is an expiring

That’s not really my point. I’m pointing out what are things that can be done. LBJ trade is not one of them. And I agree he is not living up to his huge contract too.

Hey things are bad right now but I’m still not counting out Lebron as washed entirely quite yet.
He’s still chasing Kareem and with that said he might still go off and average 28-32 ppg the remaining of this season.

I wouldn’t say that is worth 50 milly a year if we don’t rack up some wins in the process but it’ll sure still sell tickets and make espn and tnt play some Lakers games on national telecast. An let’s be honest that’s enough for Jeanie to sit at her corner seat in her Prada smiling and clapping.

Either way you want to totally continue trashing Lebron and praising Russ as some savior Half-life, when at the end of the day Russ still hasn’t done jacksquat as a Laker when Lebron can point his finger to his 2020 Championship banner. Same song for AD. Unfortunately Russ returning to his OKC ways is still too late for us to “Honor the Gift”. It damn near took him 100 games to get his act together.

Honestly I’m happy that Russ is playing great right now and sure he’s an expiring but he’ll still be the one to go if anyone is leaving atm.
