What's special about this young man is that his game is tailored to fit with anyone he's out there with because he plays both sides of the ball intelligently.
Put it this way, if Monk can make a credible transition in terms of applying his defensive iq to equal or exceed his offensive iq, we'd have the perfect complementary players for James, Davis & Russell.
Both have the requisite skillsets. |

Maybe Vogel wants to go into the lottery, with no picks and try his luck. Lol just playing. That just sounded good in my head so I wanted to say it. Seriously though, Vogel has to find a way to play him. I remember some time ago, I said when players start coming back, Reaves may be the oddman out because he is rookie. Politics plays heavy into this decision. |

| All politics. Monk's started playing well and making an effort defensively so he's a rotation guy. Ellington is a rotation guy. Melo is a vet that's been producing, and also friends of your superstar. Who you going to cut time from? Westbrook, Rondo, AB combo most likely. Westbrook isn't going to lose mins, so you're down to Rondo/AB/Reaves and some others (Baze, etc) as the odd man out that you have to rotate mins between. Part of the challenge when your roster is sized the way it is. |

Melo's mins have to be cut down. He's been horrid lately, even worse on the defensive end than he was at the start of the year.

I'm with you. But we also have to be careful about having a consistent rotation, AND back to the point of politics, it won't sit well when you bench "fan favorite" and Lebron's favorite for HBK to get additional mins (especially not with national media, who will then drive the narrative in whatever direction they wish). |

| It's really up to the coaching staff to find minutes for Reaves and utilize him. Sure we have guys who are performing well, but if you have a player who is relatively consistent and always puts in effort, no way should he ride the bench especially in a game that is devoid of effort. |

I'll say with Avery, he is a really good defender and that is nothing to frown upon on this team. THT on the other hand seems more like a 6 man than a starter. I would replace him with Reaves and let THT run the 2nd unit. The only thing is, he has tunnel vision off the bench because he thinks he is the man. That is a plus with Reaves coming off the bench. Bron and Reaves work really well together though... As we as with other. He can fit any line because of his ability. |

I love Austin Reeves.
In my personal Lakers lore, Reeves is my Rambis, Coop, AC Green, AC the Bald Eagle - guys who play the game the right way, play hard, and play to win the game.
If AD had Austin Reeves' mindset, we'd be a top team right now.

Sure but that one skill of hounding full-court defense can be (and has been) useful in certain situations/lineups against certain teams/players - even with all the flaws you point out.
He does that one job for Vogel, period, and that earns him his minimum-possible NBA money. If Vogel overplays him then the issue is with Vogel - or with the other players in front of him who are unable to plug into Vogel's scheme |
