Frank Vogel Didn’t Expect Austin Reaves To Be Rotation Player This Early In Career

Frank should thank the basketball gods.

Without this 15-5 winning basketball player, he might have been out of a job. Reaves development may have saved Frank’s job.

Watch how mad everyone is going to be when Reeves has to sit when Nunn comes back. They certainly aren’t sitting Monk or THT.

Fully expect Nunn to be a better version of everything Reaves bring, Monk-Nunn combo should be putting up points

of the four (Nunn, Monk, Reeves and THT), THT should be the one left out of rotation. he brings nothing, NOTHING to the team.

Two (Nunn, Reaves) of the three play defense, and the third (Monk) one is improving defensively. That's really encouraging. My hope is AD comes back in dominant form.

If he does our guards will be even better, hopefully minus the turnovers from we all know who.

Lakers have 30 million invested. They have to play him, even if it means to trade him. I personally think Reeves gets shafted when Nunn is back.

Completely disagree with the bolded.

I like Nunn and I think he'll give us another guard to create offense but he's no where near Reaves defensively. AR, right now, is one of our best defensive players, period. He legit guards 1-3 and seen him work his ass off to force 4s into tough shots. Not to mention the intangibles i.e flying around the court ala AC/Zo to deflect passes and help the helper. Dude always boxes out and attacks the ball. He does everything right. Yeah, I'm not sitting that guy. And I don't think Vogel will either.

It 100% should be THT based on what everyone actually brings to the table.

Vogel always gives first crack to the players who have political backing. It's the smart play. But when it gets late in the season and in the playoffs, he's done playing that game and puts in the guys he thinks will help him win.

Reaves is a pesky defender with good footwork and recovery skills.
He is dependable and fundamentally sound.

Pretty amazing to see the transformation in his game from college to pros. He went from a ball-dominant offensive force to a terrific glue guy and defensive rock.

I’m guessing when Vogel sees this on tape, he will increase Reaves minutes. That’s like 2 defenders worth of coverage with high IQ reads.

That’s a good way of getting back at BS flopping, baiting and lock arms basketball of James Harden and his protégés

Haha this. It’s like with Caruso in the beginning. Hopefully it’ll take teams awhile to realize Reaves is the wrong guy to target on defense. You’re not getting easy buckets on him.

Insane level of court/ball awareness
Opposing coaches watch this and are (bleep) befuddled. "I thought they got rid of Caruso"
How does one guy make so many high iq moves in one possession?
^^This is better than AC imho

His IQ is way better than AC. Loved Caruso, and he is missed but as we are seeing now, had Rob given Vogel some better younger defenders at the season's start all this talk about letting Caruso walk quiets.

The thing is Caruso was not Carushow until 19-20. He needed some time. He was 25/26. Austin is giving us serious impact at rookie, at 23. He will get a bit better once he works on his body a little. But upside wise. Man do not think Alex was a better prospect than Austin. I mean Austin hit 5 threes and a game winner in his 15th game in the NBA. Think about how rare that is.

I think that is correct. Hoopshype has him at $1.56m next season and no player option.

Nunn can fit with playing both THT and Reaves long as Monk is starting

If LeBron remains the 'center'

Starters:
Russell Westbrook
Malik Monk
Stanley Johnson
Anthony Davis
LeBron James

Bench:
Kendrick Nunn
Austin Reaves
Talen Horton-Tucker
Carmelo Anthony
Dwight Howard

There's your 10 man rotation and you still have Wayne Ellington for emergencies.
