+/- is the last thing you want to listen to for 'analysis'.

PLAYER PTS +/-
Kent Bazemore 11 -31
Malik Monk 33 -24
Kendrick Nunn 20 -21
DeAndre Jordan 13 -19
Anthony Davis 20 -17
Austin Reaves 13 -16
Mac McClung 1 -16
Rajon Rondo 4 -14
Cameron Oliver 7 -9
Wayne Ellington 16 -8
Trevelin Queen 5 -5
Carmelo Anthony 8 -4
Joel Ayayi 0 -4
Talen Horton-Tucker 21 -3
Dwight Howard 11 0
Chaundee Brown 19 1

This would tell you that Dwight and Chaundee are the only players that have had a positive impact.

The Lakers have plenty of scoring in the starting unit with Westbrook, AD and LeBron. He might be best used as coming off the bench.

Nunn is a scorer though and already coming off the bench so you might already have that with our bench unit. Monk showing himself to be a three point shooting walking bucket especially when open off ball is kind of extremely beneficial when you're in a lineup with LeBron and Westbrook isn't it?

Our most talented SG since Kobe. Malik needs to start. I hope Rob signs him long-term too.

After 4 years in the league he still presents a major liability on the defensive end. Whether it was the Hornets coaches/schemes, his off court issues, low bbiq or just lack of interest/effort he still is caught out of position or fails to rotate resulting in easy baskets or open looks for his opponent although it may not necessarily be the player he is matched up to. A breakdown by one player can disrupt the entire defensive scheme regardless of how good the other players are.

The good/great defenders just react without thinking (AD, AC) as they process the play as it unfolds. Many will never have that natural reactionary instincts but at least make up for it through effort. Here is hoping Monk stays motivated and is helped by Vogel's defensive schemes to minimize his defensive issues.

Maybe I am being too harsh on him and I have blinders on seeing only perceived faults but that is what I take away from these 3 pre-season games so far.

I'm having fun with a theory. Monk absolutely has a high bballIQ...but primarily on the offensive end. On the defensive end, he's going to have to learn how to play off of his team mates from a defensive standpoint.

Can/Will he do that? I have no idea, but he does have the athletic gifts to do so, and it will be the key to him establishing trust with the coaching staff & players.

Get well soon Malik!

You guys need to chill with the overreaction, Monk would be be playing if we were in the regular season and if he can’t go in the season opener it’s not the end of the world it’s better to overcome injuries now as opposed to later in the season when games start to become more intense, none of the reporters said what kind of serve ankle sprain Nunn has, it could very well be a minor thing and there sitting him out because they want him ready to go for the regular season, THT will be back sooner then his projected time line.

Agreed, except these "injuries" no matter how severe are now happening to our only youthful depth pieces, not just the old farts like Ariza as one might expect.

Season starts in a week and this team is in shambles both physically and chemistry wise.

Don’t worry my LG brethren, we will be fine, chemistry is always a question for any super team, just ask the 2011 Heat, they got off to a slow start and then steam rolled..

They also had 3 stars in their prime. This Laker team doesn’t. Really lazy comparison.

Lebron may not be in his prime but he was still the odds on favorite to win MVP before he got injured last season. AD is in his prime. Westbrook is just on the fringe of his. I mean he did average 22.2/11.7/11.5/1.4 last season.

Best young guard on this team.

I hope the Lakers can find someway to retain him in the offseason.

Besides a few Laker fans here I have not seen a single person say this was not a super team. It clearly is this season along with the Nets, it doesn't guarantee they will win anything or fit. The 2011 Heat is not a lazy comparison either imo. Obviously it's different and I doubt anyone mentioning it doesn't realize Lebron is older. Both had/have two extremely ball dominant guards and a big. There's plenty of differences when you go into the details of everything but like Wade & Bron having to figure it out now Bron & Westbrook will have to. AD and Bosh will be fine for the most part as long as one of the playmakers are playing.

It should also be noted that team got off to a slow start at 9-8 before winning 18 of the next 19. Given that they are dealing with injuries and haven't looked great in preseason, we can likely expect a slow start.
