started with Casino Royal, it seems the franchise changed the script of the 007 movies, and centered it more around the actual character's past. all the movies since Casino Royal were all somewhat linked to how the villians had some kind of connections with Daniel Craig's character. The past 007 were all about the agent going against a random villian. i can see they planned this way so no 007 will be made after the Daniel Craig era, but personally i prefer the pre-Daniel Craig 007 scripts.

i think they are ok .. the somewhat campy style that they used to make 007 movies would not have aged gracefully at this point.

They're all entertaining in the moment. But I always somehow end up forgetting all about them.

They're aiming for "edgy" which puts them right in the middle of all of the other action movies. Instead of a suave, cool spy fighting a supervillain he's Bruce Willis in Vienna fighting random bad guys. Entertaining but doesn't stand out of the crowd.

Cocky, womanizing Bond didn't age well with new sensibilities. Spy gadgets aren't that special anymore unless they're overtly lethal. They can cater to part of their audience or continue trying to make everyone happy and end up with a forgettable product.

I like Craig as the Licensed To Kill agent. He's more Connery like. In order of best

1) Sean Connery
2) Daniel Craig
3 Peirce Bronson

I think they had an opportunity to update the franchise with a suave but more modern lead (like an Idris Elba), keep the globetrotting world domination plots with all the on location scenery, and maybe tone down the camp some and the misogyny a lot. Instead, they went for a British diehard with very little charisma but a lot of angst.

Jamie Dornan should be the next Bond.

To be fair, in the books, Bond is a bad ass fighter so it's on brand. Craig's version is the closest to the books. I agree that the Craig movies are a bit too blockbuster-y for my liking. Enjoyable but quickly forgotten. I like the Connery Bond movies the best.. That version and Roger Moore's were the ones I grew up with.

It's strange that I have memories of the old school Bond movies that I watched as a kid but like Wilt, I can't for the life of me remember anything about the current Bond movies.

He should go to Italy for some silly surveillance reason but nothing ever big happens. The movie is 2 hrs and 20 mins of Dornan eating Italian pasta and pastries in between sexing up the ladies as he makes fun of the former British empire while on a pointless mission for MI6. There's one random car chase scene through the streets of Naples that serves no purpose. Maybe he fights some street pickpockets in an extended hand to hand fight sequence and then he befriends the pickpockets or something. Have a Bollywood style dance number over the end credits.

One billion box office guaranteed.

Honestly, I think he revived the franchise. I couldn't take Pierce Brosnan or most the movies from the guys before him. Craig brought back the sheen to the character. I'd really like to see Idris Elba take the slot next. He's a favorite of mine.

He would absolutely crush it.

Adjusting for inflation, Brosnan’s films rank right with Craig’s and some even top them. The producers decided to reboot the series as something more modern and generic blockbuster oriented, capitalizing on the fame of the name (although it drives me nuts when you get viewers call them 007 movies instead of bond movies) while shedding much of the trappings of the film franchise. It’s worked, but it remains to be seen how they move forward. They e lost a lot of tradition and nothing about the current films is a unique franchise that can’t be beaten out by something similar.

I guess I meant in terms of story-telling and getting away from the tired format that they wove into nearly every prior picture.

I enjoy Sam Mendes but I don’t think he’s the correct choice for 007 movies. I like his visual style, as all his entries look stunning. But I’m always left wanting more as far as story, set pieces, pacing and even action sequences. I’d like to see another director try his/her hand at this franchise.

For me amazing. The best bond. I liked every movie a lot even quantum.

Christopher Nolan has made it no secret he wants to direct a bond movie.

Brosnan was too soft to play bond. Dalton isn’t a leading man.

Craig
Connery

Lazenby

Moore

Bond movies don't really move the needle for me, the Roger Moore time period pretty much destroyed any viewing equity. With the exception of watching No Time to Die last night, I only watch Bond movies when they're free on one of the subscription channels.

It liked No Time to Die as it relied less on fake sci-fi gadgetry, and unlike the annoying persona of Moore, the movie focused on developing a deeply flawed but capable assassin. I hope they continue in that direction.

In terms of secret agent media, I'm more into reading than movies. I loved John le Carré novels as he presented spies under duress with morally ambiguous goals and relied on their wits rather than gadgets and gymnastics. That realism sprang from his career in both MI5 and MI6. I'd prefer to see a Bond movie with realism, but that will never happen.
