Yeah, SD is for reals this year. Going to be scary when they get Tatis back.

...and the Giants tie it up in the bottom of the 9th after being down 4-6. Is there any way for both teams to lose this?

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Kahnle is going to be down for a while. Concerningly, he has a forearm strain that is related to his TJ surgery. Losing both Kahnle and Treinen for the season would hurt for sure. Both seem to genuinely be in limbo, at this point.

^ No worries. We just signed Pedro Baez to a minor league deal. We're waiting till the trade deadline to bring back Dylan Floro and Yimi Garcia.

- Mitch White vs. Aaron Nola today at 3pm. Seems like a mismatch. Wouldn't be surprised if we're the underdogs today.

Yup:

Line : PHI -130

----------------

Looks like a bullpen game today:

Quote:
“Saturday will be a combo,” Roberts said. “There’ll be a handful of bullpen guys, but if you want to call it a bullpen, sure, because we just don’t have typical length anywhere.”

.................

Roberts recently said Mitch White is built up to go two innings, so he will likely be used on Saturday, and David Price could potentially give the club multiple innings as well. After Price was activated, Roberts said the veteran southpaw would be ready when they need him.

Dodgers injury updates:

Heaney:

Quote:
Andrew Heaney continued his progression toward a return to the mound Friday, throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session.

It was Heaney’s second bullpen session of the week. He threw his first on Tuesday since going to the injured list with left shoulder discomfort on April 20.

“Fastball, slider, changeup, kind of sat 90, touched 92,” said manager Dave Roberts. “Really good. Used his entire mix, said he felt good coming out of it. So, I’m going to assume there’s going to be another pen before we face hitters. But just to know we’re taking a big step forward is encouraging.”

Kershaw:

Quote:
It will likely be a couple weeks before Clayton Kershaw throws his first bullpen session after going to the injured list on May 13 with right SI joint inflammation.

Kershaw was expected to throw a bullpen session earlier this week, but it was pushed back when he was still dealing with back soreness. He did not travel with the team on their East Coast trip.

Roberts said the scan on Kershaw’s back “was very encouraging” and indicates that rest is all Kershaw will need for the pain to subside.

“He’s back home in Texas right now, not traveling with us,” Roberts said. “He’ll meet us in Arizona. At that time, hopefully, we can start playing catch and see where we’re at. It could turn and speed up that process, but I just don’t want to put him on any timeline.”

Kahnle:

Quote:
The right forearm inflammation that sent Tommy Kahnle could keep the Dodger reliever out for weeks.

The official diagnosis after an MRI is a bone bruise in Kahnle’s right elbow. Manager Dave Roberts believes it is related to the Tommy John surgery Kahnle had in August 2020.

“He’s in Arizona, resting, and it’s going to be a while, weeks, before he picks up a baseball again,” Roberts told reporters Friday. “But we’re expected to have him back at some point in time, but certainly just disappointing with all that he’s had to overcome to get back here.”

Kahnle made his Dodger debut on May 1 in his return from Tommy John surgery. He made four appearances, three of which were scoreless, before returning to the IL with right forearm inflammation on May 17. Kahnle said he thought it might be part of pitching again, but it eventually got to the point where the gradual soreness and tightness made playing catch difficult.

Blake Treinen:

Quote:
May 15, 2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers initially hoped Blake Treinen would avoid time on the injured list as he began to deal with right shoulder trouble, then believed his stint would be relatively short.

Instead, the Dodgers’ most versatile relief pitcher is due to be out until some time after the All-Star break. The Dodgers have not provided details of the shoulder injury, and Treinen declined to do so as well, but noted he’s already experienced improvement.

“I honestly feel really good right now,” Treinen said. “It’s not really anything that’s causing a lot of discomfort. It’s more of a combination of things, so we’re just kind of taking it day-by-day to get myself right.

“When that conviction comes back we’ll start throwing and move on from there.”

Treinen has yet to resume throwing since the injury surfaced in April. “As of now it’s more lower body days and working out,” he said. “I’ll be doing some strengthening stuff. They’re going to lay it out for me. I’ve just got to focus on each day and try to get back.

“I think the organization has my best interest and the team’s best interest in mind. Whatever their plan is, I’m going to trust.”

Treinen added he was forced to the IL because of not wanting to push through “some trust issues and some weakness” in his right shoulder.

While the 33-year-old spoke in general terms about his shoulder injury, he downplayed concern when asked if the trouble was related to a structural issue.

“We have a process to get myself back to playing. If it was something that bad, I probably wouldn’t be playing this year,” Treinen said. “The whole idea is to get myself back. Everybody has bumps and bruises along the way, and this is just one for me.”

Victor Gonzalez:

Quote:
The 26-year-old underwent a cleanup procedure on his elbow Wednesday that will keep him out of action longer than previously anticipated, but everything went well with his surgery and he should return this season.

........

“From what I hear, he’s as good as expected,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “And they’re very hopeful that a return at some point in time this year is most likely.”

“I’m hesitant to say when but I just know that the later part of the year, late August. Something like that,” Roberts added.

I don't know who is the Dodger Dude, but he provides an injury return timetable (probably just dates they are expected to come off the IL):

In a bizarre twist of fate, our bats have remained healthy enough to avoid any IL visits however having 7 or 8 pitchers down at once could be a product of the lockout and abbreviated spring training.

I don't see any scenario where Kahnle is ready by June 5. He's not even going to throw "for weeks." He's probably not going to be ready by July 5. Maybe not even August 5 or this season.

Yeah, I think he was just listing dates players are supposed to come off the IL as of right now.

Kahnle was put on the 15 day IL.

Josh Donaldson accused of being a racist:

Quote:
Comment by New York Yankees' Josh Donaldson to Chicago White Sox star Tim Anderson called 'racist'

A heated afternoon on the field continued off it afterward, with Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson taking offense to being called "Jackie" by the New York Yankees' Josh Donaldson, a comment deemed "racist" by manager Tony LaRussa.

Donaldson admitted after the game to calling Anderson "Jackie" -- a nod to Jackie Robinson in the first inning. He apologized, saying meant no disrespect. However, Anderson, who is Black, said after the game that he took offense to the comment.

Donaldson, who is white, said the comment was in reference to a 2019 interview with Sports Illustrated in which Anderson described himself as feeling like "today's Jackie Robinson" in how he's "getting to a point where I need to change the game." Donaldson on Saturday also said it was a reference in which he's "joked around" with Anderson about it in the past.

Major League Baseball is looking into the matter and speaking to all of the relevant parties involved, a source told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Robinson broke the Major League Baseball color barrier in 1947. Every team in the big leagues has retired his No. 42 to honor the struggle, sacrifice and social impact he had on the game and beyond.

In the third inning, Donaldson had rounded second base after the final out and began jawing with Anderson as the teams came off the field. Donaldson, a former AL MVP in his first season with the Yankees, was escorted off the field by manager Aaron Boone and Anderson, an All-Star shortstop, was led off by third base coach Joe McEwing.

"He just made a disrespectful comment," Anderson said. "Basically he was trying to call me Jackie Robinson. 'What's up, Jackie?' I don't play like that. I don't really play at all. I wasn't really going to bother nobody today, but he made the comment and you know it was disrespectful and I don't think it was called for. It was unneccesary."

Said LaRussa: "He made a racist comment, Donaldson, and that's all I'm going to say. That's as strong as it gets."

Asked if he agreed with LaRussa, Anderson said, "Same. Same. Along that same line."

There is no way that is a racist comment and it's just emblematic of our society today as a whole. Number one, even without the context of Anderson having compared himself to Jackie earlier, it's still not racist, but given the context, it's most certainly not racist. Nowhere can you infer from that comment that Josh Donaldson has a problem with black people, or believes that black people are inferior to any other race. Now, may he have a problem with Anderson specifically? Sure. But you can't infer that he has a problem with black people or, even, with Jackie Robinson in particular. If there's any information that's out there that might suggest something to the contrary, I'm certainly willing to hear about it, but the comment in and of itself is not a racist comment.

These words just get thrown around way too easily. Should he have said it, in today's climate? Probably not. But let's pump the damn brakes here.

Bases loaded one out for Taylor. You know how we usually fare in these situations, and Taylor has been swinging and missing A LOT lately. Need some contact here, preferably to the outfield.

And Dino Ebel stops Muncy at 3rd with the throw going wildly off line. Schwarber is a terrible fielder. He should have been sent.

We are truly so fantastically awful in that situation. Of course Ebel held Muncy rounding third because a good throw would've gotten him by a mile, but the throw did happen to be way up the line so he would've scored. Given our track record with less than 2 outs, I'd just start sending guys.

Now we run into an out on the bases. I swear, sometimes I actually dislike watching this team play because we make it harder than it needs to be. I can tolerate mistakes, but Mookie was just taking off there assuming that the pitcher wouldn't even look at him. If you're going to steal, just steal conventionally; you don't need to get that much of a head start, do you? Has he slowed down that much?

One of those moments where I want to throw my remote at the TV.
