I agree with the notion that we're going to be very interested in signing Ohtani.

^The NHL used to have the #1 seed automatically play the lowest remaining seed in the second round after the first round concluded. The 2012 LA Kings were the #8 seed and knocked off the #1, and because they were the lowest seed they got the #2 seed in the next round. I thought that was fair.

Didn’t know that. Guess they wait for every series to conclude as well.

No doubt reseeding is the fairest way.

The NHL has since changed the playoff format (again) since the Kings won their last Stanley Cup back in 2014. Now it's divisional playoffs, essentially, which it had been for a long time in decades prior. During the Gretzky years, for example, the Kings, in the Smythe Division, had to get past the likes of the Canucks and Flames in their own division before they could theoretically get to the Campbell Conference Finals, where they played Toronto in '93, for example. Then in the Kings' Cup-winning years more recently, it was the format where they just seed the teams 1-8 and let it play out (where they do re-seed), regardless of division. But for a few years now, they've gone back to the divisional playoff format where you have to get through your own division before making it to the conference finals, although there's a caveat. The top 3 teams in each division are guaranteed to make the playoffs, with 2 wild card teams, so you could have a team outside your division make it into your bracket in the first 2 rounds of playoffs, if that makes sense.

Anyway, that's hockey, so sorry to get off on a tangent. I do agree that the most fair way would seem to be re-seeding, so that the #1 seed gets every advantage possible.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints from hockey fans after the sport went back to divisional playoffs.

Seems really obvious to me that MLB should do reseeding and we all seem to agree so why isn’t the sport doing it?

Since May 31 the Braves are 75-32, tied with our team for the best record during that time. And obviously facing the Mets would be a major challenge. There should never be a scenario with 109+ win team facing them while the #2 seed faces a much weaker #6 seed.

I’m also not thrilled about the #2 seed facing a weaker Cardinals team but that’s a separate issue.

Trea Turner is 4th in the NL in batting average at .298. Only 3 players in the NL are hitting over .300 (The AL has 9, a few guys are barely over .300). I’m really curious to see what the stats will look like next season when the defensive shifts are banned.

It's a crazy race to the finish in the national league. Well except for us. LOL.

Phillies lost game 1 of the double header and are currently tied with the Brewers. Both teams have a game tonight.

Mets and braves have same record and are facing each other later today.

Padres are on a little losing streak so there's still chance they might not make the playoffs.

Only thing exciting in he AL side is Mariners and Rays are trying to catch Toronto for the home field in the WC round.

Ohtani jumped from $5.5M to $30M in arbitration:

Quote:
Shohei Ohtani to make $30 million in 2023, record amount for arbitration-eligible player

Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani will make $30 million in 2023 after he and the team agreed to a one-year contract for next season to avoid arbitration.

The contract is the largest ever given to an arbitration-eligible player, surpassing the $27 million given to Mookie Betts by the Boston Red Sox in January 2020, a month before he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani's deal is fully guaranteed, with no other provisions.

Ohtani, who is making $5.5 million this year, will be a free agent after the 2023 season.

I could see Ohtani signing a monster deal with the Angels to stay.

He hasn't given any indication in interviews that he's interested. When they ask about staying with the Angels, he gives cryptic answers like: "I'm committed to the Angels while I'm here" or "most important thing to me is winning"

True, but the Angels wrote a lot of big checks which is why guys like Pujols, Trout, Rendon signed.

What are the chances we can sign Dansby Swanson next year? The guy is a stud.

He just took Scherzer deep. 2 run home run.

Olson homers for a 4-2 lead against Scherzer and the Mets in the bottom of the 6th.

Seems like both degrom and scherzer are struggling a bit.

Freeman is clutch with runner in scoring position. T Turner not so much.

Jansen with an easy 1-2-3 inning, with 2 K's. Braves lead the Mets by 1 with 4 to go. The real swing game is tomorrow. Mets win, and they control the tiebreaker with 3 to go and tied. Braves win, and they are up 2 with 3 to go plus own the tiebreaker. Massive pressure on the Mets tomorrow. Bassitt vs. Morton.

Devastating loss for the Brewers, allowing 2 runs in the top of the 9th and losing at home to the Marlins 4-3.

Marlins did the same thing to them a few games ago. Up 2-0 for most of the game then boom, a grand slam in the 8th to lose it.

Trea Turner with 2 k again today.

His career high is 132 in 162 games. Coming into today, he had 124, so with 2 today, should be 126 now in 156 games.

4 games left to get 6 more. Let's see if he can do it.

How does a small contact hitter strike out so much? Is he swinging for the fences?

Right now, I'm not sure the Mets beat the Padres in the WC (if they get there).

I have to agree with you there. Their offense is struggling and their pitching (degrom & scherzer) is no longer lights out.

Lately he has been striking out chasing.

Come on Kimbrel. Just fricking challenge the batters. He almost looks like he is scared to throw strikes.
