@mad: my previous projections were based on the 116m sann on art cap projection (I gotta stop doing that haha). See below fir what I believe are the correct projections based on a projected 119m salary cap and yr1 base salary amounts.

If we sign Stanley with a 2 yr vet min rest of season deal:
Year 1: 970k
Year 2: 2.4m

If signed with remaining mMLE on a 3yr deal:
Year 1: 517k
Year 2: 1.6m
Year 3: 1.9m

That's interesting ... you think that was the plan with holding some of the MMLE back (not necessarily for Stanley, just in case a situation like this came up)? I thought we were just being cheap at first.

^@CMJ: We are being cheap if it goes unused.

As for the remaining mMLE, if they had held onto 35k more of it (ie 925k instead of 890k), then we could have signed Reaves to a 3 yr deal instead of the current 2 yr deal he has. I have no idea why they didn’t decide to earmark at least the rookie min amount (925k) of the mMLE. It’s not like Nunn was in any position of power to demand 35k more haha.

Instead they used the vet min to retain Reaves and it’s no different than what we did with THT in 2019 when we had ample cap space to sign dude to a 3+ year deal instead of the 2yr deal that you can only sign up to with the vet min exception. Fast forward to this past offseason when THT’s 2yr deal was up and now we were left with an artificial cap where we had to choose between AC or THT. Imagine if THT was on a 3yr rookie min deal instead.

Same idea with Reaves and hopefully in the summer of 2023 it doesn’t become another decision where we have to pick between Reaves and another FA.

I still don't know why Ariza is starting over Monk or Stanley.

I was also thinking why Ariza is starting over Stanley. Ariza in first half last night was disastrous. On the other hand Stanley always gives big energy boost but also can hit some shoots and plays above average defense. he should definitely start the games.

Seems to be the motto of the coaching staff this season

And front office, always.

Ariza looked washed last season. would not expect any significant increase in his athleticism.

With Lebron, Stanley, Ariza, you're playing small with Lebron at the 5, but you have size at the 4 and 3 with Stanley/Ariza. If we play Lebron at the 5, we have to ensure we play 2 other big wings or forwards. As we did in this game. Melo was also part of that Lebron/Stanley lineup.

then like the DB said, Ariza (and Melo) only good for covering 4/5. Only Stanley and Bron can cover big wings. We need to flip Bazemore/DAJ for a cheap defensive beast (a Stanley clone lol), is Sekou that dude?

Man we really lucked out.

On defense he is a beast and can be switched 1-5. On offense he is great in transition... his 3 is showing A Lot of promise.

He is shooting 35% on 3 attempts and his form looks good. While 35% is not amazing it's enough to keep him on the floor. Ariza is a career 35% and I think Stanley will continue to shoot better.

When Davis comes back I want to see stanley start. Problem is Westbrook makes it harder since his shooting is so bad. At least stanley provides size and defense...

That would be fantastic if he maintain around 35%. That was about the % we wanted Kuzma to reach. He never did.

Since signing Stanley Johnson the Lakers are 6-2 when he plays 20+ mins and 0-4 when he plays less than 20 mins. They’re also 4-1 when he starts. A lot of it is probably coincidental but he should definitely be starting

Kind of crazy we could be starting Stanley Johnson and Avery Bradley, two players cut loose by other teams because they were deemed not good enough.

But Stan can be that player we wanted since we dealt Danny Green, which Kuz and Wes couldn't quite fill.

That's the Dodger way these late championship years.

That's the Million Dollar Question... Ariza has no right to start on this team, not at all! I'm sorry and Ariza is one of my favorite NBA players, mainly because he's had a long career and a fellow Comet!

With that being said, the Lakers starting lineup with AD out should be:

Westbrook + Bradley + Johnson + Lebron + Dwight
Monk + Bradley + Westbrook + Johnson + LeBron (Small Ball)

The small ball lineup works well for us, but not when the opposing team has an adequate Big. There have been many NBA Analyst that's said Westbrook should come off the bench. I'm definitely not opposed to that as it could turn out to be a good decision.

Monk deserves more minutes and so does THT. Bradley gets the nod because he's our best defensive guard. But all that said, Ariza should never be starting on this team and only see spot minutes. The rotation should be 8 players Max, and when AD returns we goto 8/9.

Bradley + Monk + Westbrook + Johnson + LeBron + AD + Howard + Melo + Reaves

Keep in mind that Ariza will likely be here next weekend and Johnson might not be.

1/27 is the date, I think jeanie will sign him, it’s just about saving a couple of bucks by offer him a smaller prorated contract.

And using up the only potentially open roster spot. Which would mean sitting out the buy out market and I can’t see Pelinka doing that. They can open up another spot with a trade but the timelines don’t coincide.

I didn't know this about Stanley (I was watching Backstage Lakers while cleaning my kitchen and they mentioned this). Stanley seems like a really mature and "high character" guy.
