Very good use of the 2way. The league kept the relaxed rules allowing players to spend more time with the regular team, 50 games iirc. _________________ Member: Austin “Manu” Reaves fan club. |

I’m right there with you. I just don’t keep up.
Feels like the Lakers currently have about 6 two way players. |

So are Brown and Queen SOL? Honestly, I like both of those players, but we need a damn wing. |

Random survey of 5 or 6 => Big and athletic, but awkward. Seems to have a nose for rebounds. Makes Russell look like Steph Curry from distance. Might be good for 6 fouls on big wings at this stage.
Eager to see a few complete shifts to make a better judgement. _________________ PBO Magic - the gift that keeps on giving. |

I don’t understand this signing, we’re in win now mode this is clearly a development guy. He is awkward & more of a big forward defender. There is no way he could guard SF spot cause his feet aren’t quick enough to guard. A Cacook type player 2 years away if that.
I don’t know why they just don’t sign Ennis to 15th spot he’s an NBA player who can do everything. When buyouts come cut a guy & I don’t know why Jeanie is sweating paying a little more tax on this team who has already been hit with multiple injuries. I’m not sure why she’s being cheap on this tax thing but willing to pay 3 guys over 100 million, I believe Warriors,Nets perhaps another team who pay the extra tax. Her father never hesitated to do so!!! _________________ My Laker squad.

You're getting worked up over nothing.
This is a two-way contract. Meaning this player splits time between the G-League team and the NBA team. Each team is allowed to have two players on a two-way contract. There's a limit to how much time the player(s) can spend with the NBA team, but they can be "called up" and play on a given night if injuries/illness/rest preclude the NBA team from having 12 players dressed for a game.
The important distinction of a two-way contract player is that these two spots DO NOT count toward the 15 man roster. The purpose for these contracts is for this exact reason, to help develop young/promising players who may otherwise have been out of the league and playing in Europe.
By the way, Alex Caruso was someone that got developed in the G-League - and signed with the Lakers on a two-way contract. How'd that one work out? |

I bet it's just doing a salary favor thing at this point. I've got to think they drop him from the two-way and sign one of the others, but let Ayayi collect the bigger paycheck before they make that change. |

Previously stated this.
According to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, Reaves and Ayayi both turned down the chance to be drafted in order to have autonomy in signing with a team after the draft:
I would believe the Lakers and Ayayi had a pre-draft understanding that he would sign a 2-way if undrafted. Lakers understand the importance of relationships and Ayayi is represented by the Wasserman agency which is a major player in NBA clients. I just don't believe they will cut him loose as you don't strain future dealings with Wasserman over the 16th or 17th roster spot.
He only is released if Ayayi wants to move on.
He needs time to adapt to the NBA game like the majority of prospects do. He has talent. |

I think that "promise" is a good rationale for why he's got the 2-way contract, but he's still an interesting prospect not worth writing off just yet. Also, you just never know how things are going to go. Reaves impressed so much that we converted him into a regular roster player and that opened up another 2-way spot for possibly Queen or Brown ... but then who knew we'd be able to use that spot on Sekou (a young, athletic top-15 pick two years ago)? You have to adapt and, as much as I like Brown and Queen, I think Sekou's worth the risk of losing the unsigned guys. |

Quietly, the Lakers have built a little bit of a prospect pool. They now have THT (20), Sekou (20), Reaves (23) and Monk (23) under contract. They still have an open 2-way spot to work with too.
In 2022 we have no picks. In 2023 we have a 1st (lesser of ours/NOH) and two 2nds (own/Chicago’s). In 2024 we will likely have no 1st (convey to NOH at their option) and one 2nd (lesser of MEM/WAS). Beyond that we have all of our 1sts and are net even on 2nds (down one in 2026, up one in 2028).
Given what we gave up for Davis, and how Pelinka has used the last few 1sts to grease the skids in deals, that is not bad at all. The other three primary contenders, Milwaukee (Jrue), Brooklyn (Harden) and the Clippers (George) have emptied the clip on draft picks for the majority of this decade to build their teams. _________________ Member: Austin “Manu” Reaves fan club. |

I agree with this assessment as well... The Lakers maybe somewhat hand-tied over the next few drafts, but this group will hopefully show some promise.
If the goal is to keep Russ around and AD Finishes his career as a Laker post LBJ, then the supporting cast will have a few years under their belt with this core group and still young.
I wouldn't doubt if the goal for Ben Simmons and Rich Paul is to be in a Lakers Uniform, and be mentored by LBJ as he winds it down. It wouldn't surprise me if theres a handing off of the torch, because Simmons is truly made in that mode and just needs to round out and get better... Now that would be interesting! |
