Both becoming champions at around the age of 27.
One following the route of loyalty... the other getting frustrated and starting a super team.
I suppose Giannis wasn't burdened with the expectations and childhood celebrity than LeBron was, but we think of LeBron's path as a long arduous journey to a title when Giannis also began as a teenager and won a title in his eighth year while LBJ won in his ninth. Jordan also waited seven years and was 27 but he started a year or two later than the other two.
We think of Michael as also suffering as he had to wait for Pippen to mature and for Bird and Magic to decline.
But Giannis and Michael eventually brought the greatness to their teams... instead of chasing it somewhere else.
Maybe Giannis will get fed up and start team hopping like Bron... but something tells me he doesn't think that way.
For all the talk about what a sh*tty teammate Michael could be... I remember his rosters being fairly stable... players like Craig Hodges playing for years...Horace Grant...Cartwright.
I suppose after the Celtics created their Big Three... the idea of superteams came into vogue... the idea that you couldn't win without two superstars became gospel... but the Lakers just traded for Pau and won two titles. Dallas won, San Antonio won. The Heatles only ended up winning two. The Warriors won before they signed KD... Toronto won... the Bucks won.
As time passes, it's looking like good old fashioned team building wins just as much as superteams. And our own list of failed superteams is starting to grow. Kobe/Shaq/Malone/Payton, Kobe/Dwight/Nash/Pau, LBJ/AD/Russ.
Brooklyn's superteam failed... The Clippers superteam so far has failed.
I'm not saying it isn't good to get two stars... we will need to find AD a second, better star soon if we don't trade him.
But from my viewpoint this superteam philosophy fails more often than it succeeds... and I think if LBJ had trusted in his teammates like Giannis and Michael... he would have ended up with more titles.
I wouldn't trust Klutch with team building until I see them win without young LBJ.
It's no wonder Carter chose Milwaukee. |
You're missing one key component.. The Bucks front office weren't hesitant to acquire the requisite pieces to build a championship squad. They essentially traded away their future to add Holiday to a squad that was already capable of winning 55+ games in the regular season. Lebron probably wins hardware during his first stint in Cleveland if he had teammates like Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez instead of Mo Williams, Delonte West and Anderson Varaejo. |

Kudos to DJA!
7-7 FG (6-6 3PG)
By far his best game as a Laker. |

2 years ago we got Markieff Morris and went on to win a championship although I don’t expect the same scenario but hopefully Augustin helps us in the playoffs if we get there |

I hope we bring DJ Augustin back. He could prove to be a nice reserve point guard.
DJA has become a wiley old NBA veteran. His defense is suspect but his leadership and ball handling are pretty good.
He can still provide a spark on any given night.

DJA* lol. No way we want DAJ to come back. He can stay washed in Philly, too bad we realized too late. |
