Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson are the 2 worst GM ever.
Maybe only Michael Jordan is worst.
But Rob Pelinka needs to go.
here are a list of his mistakes.
1. Got completely played by Kwahi, and then had to scrabble to make a roster
2. Our roster in 2020 was really flawed.
Having both Dwight Howard and McGee is redundant, and these types of center is not valuable in today's game. (we got lucky though when our best opponent in the playoff was probably Denver, and McGee and Howard matched up well)
Danny Green signing was useless
Rajon Rondo signing was dumb too in paper, it worked in the playoff, but it started to show Rob didnt know anything about the modern basketball.
We didnt put nearly enough shooting around James and AD, had we put enough shooting around them, they would have been unstoppable.
COVID really saved us too allow James to rest, and fragile AD to not get injuried.
3. Our 2021 season, actually this was his best performance, adding fresh pieces to the core, but signing Drummond when we had Gasol was dumb.
and Dennis Schroder didnt work out. We would have won the championship if we got enough rest and the season started normally. We were crushing the Suns before KCP went down, and then AD, it was just too much.
We are a good matchup against Bucks too.
4. But Pelinka is too dumb to realize that 2021 was actually ok, we didnt have to shake things up, there was no chance for us to win when the season started with us getting no rest.
so he proceed to completely screw our roster.
Trading our most valuable supporting pieces (outside of Lebron and AD) KCP and Kuzma are both crucial in today game, with good defense and above average shooting.
And letting Caruso go was brain dead.
and trading our valuable pieces for WESTBRICK???
on top of that, give them a free pick when Wizard would have probably given us 2 first round picks to get rid of WESTBRICK.
The dude screw up our chances this year, and for the next decade, he has done enough damage, it is time for him to take the hike. |

Fun fact: the half-life of people who care about the 2020 championship being in the bubble is one year. So, going by data from Statista on number of Facebook fans of NBA teams, I get something like 175 million people (assuming no people like multiple teams, unlikely, but we'll assume something conservative). So with a half-life of one year, by the end of this season we'll have something like 44 million people who still care about the bubble. In 5 years it will be something like 1.4 million. In a decade it will be about 42,000. Or about how many people still bring up the Spurs 1999 title. Literally no one will care in a few years. It doesn't matter. Which, as I always point out, literally no one cares, except me, that the Celtics won like a million championships in a league of 7 other teams and 2 rounds in the playoffs. And so twenty years from now Halflife, you're going to be a lone voice in the wilderness shouting about the bubble and no one is even going to know what you're talking about.
Seriously, the bubble is a dead, rotting horse that requires no further beating. Walk away and leave it alone already. |

The 2020 roster was fantastic considering they spent most of free agency courting Kawhi and he went elsewhere. I mean most of that roster came together after Kawhi spurned them, and it won a title. How can you not give him credit for that?
People forget that last years roster was touted as being an improvement over the previous season by most experts heading into the season. Danny Green wanted out. Avery wanted more money and then left. Javele had barely played in the playoffs and Gasol gave them another look. They didn't plan on Dwight bolting but he did. Trez was seen as a steal of a pickup. And Schroder was seen as an upgrade to Rondo who could also play solid D and give them another scorer.
Injuries derailed that season. It didn't help that Marc and Matthews who were contributors on good teams the season before, looked washed up. Or that Drummond didn't work. But they were up 2-1 on the Suns with the lead in game 4 when AD went down.
This year, was a bit different. The Westbrook trade was a bad move. They then filled out the roster with shooters but other than Monk and Carmelo some of those other moves just didn't work out. Ellington and Bazemore were solid last year, and couldn't get off the pine this year. Part of his issue was cash constraints put in place by Jeanie. They could have kept Caruso. They could have made a move at the deadline to improve the team but they had a hard limit on spending. In general though it was a massive failure. |

The Lakers are in a downward spiral and the only fix is to
fire the cause. Pelinka.
He is a great agent, but he is not a builder GM.
He gambles too much and makes changes when things would be
better of letting it be.
4 good role players and a first round pick for Russ Westbrick?
The worse trade in Lakers history. |

Or maybe the players got older, got injured and didn’t have any chemistry or competitive desire like the Championship team.
But go ahead blame the owner, the GM and the HC instead. |

If the only way to get rid of the Rambis couple is to put them on the hot seat first, so be it. This team is not going anywhere if the Rambis have Jeannie's ears. |

The reason Pelinka stays - is his connection to Jeanie/Lakers/Kobe for 20 years, while Vogel was the outsider who came into the Lakers "legacy" less than 3 years ago.
If Jeanie/Kurt/Tim/FO were truly invested in making the teams wins and asset management the main factor in decisions, no way you remove the coach who won you a title with a team that was built on way, only to be destroyed by a novice executive. Vogel (or any new HC we will hire) will likely have some sort of proven championship track record and extensive experience in building an elite team.
What really worries me? Pelinka is unproven. He's had a lot of help from Magic initially to cover for his issues/weaknesses and then now he's used Vogel. He had a big 3 project 2 years ago that failed and we got fortunate that we end up with some great 3nD guys like Danny Green and Rondo was thet player he was. I mean, that was definitely not their plan A. Their plan A was a 3rd star which they failed at getting.
I really tried to give Pelinka the BOD and respect, but he's proven to be exactly what some of the board members here argued he was. It's unfortunate that we have this situation. We had AD, Lebron and a ton of quality assets. We had a coach that won you a ring with that group. And Pelinka's lack of vision and understanding of what it takes to win a NBA title did us in. I mean, if you really think about it, what does a player agent really know about elements in winning a title? It's crazy we're being run by this guy.
Wish Jeanie/Tim/Rambii/FO would hire someone with experienced FO work. Not a player agent. Rob has strengths, which he has shown. But these strengths are of someone useful in a GM/assistant to president role. We need another leader doing the day to day transactions and having some vision for asset management and roster building.
Pretty soon, it may hit them, no elite coach is going to want to take this situation. They likely won't even get a level of coach they removed in Vogel, who with the right pieces is an elite defensive coach.

In a twisted way, Rob probably likes being a yes man as it keeps him safe…until now. He’s next in line to get fired. |

Does that include the best-in-the-Western Conference record (and 2nd in the league) prior to Covid? |

The Lakers were the best team when the season got suspended.
I bet the tune would be different if his choking clippers won in 2020. |

If that’s how it happened, then Rob Pelinka is truly useless.
Despite how MJ (bleep) on Jerry Krause in his documentary.
Looking at MJ track record of being GM, Jerry Krause really saved his legacy.
GM needs to be GM, if he just listens to Lebron, the (bleep) we need him for?
At least he needs to have basketball sense to have a conversation.
Or at least have common sense to negotiate with Wizard that they need to give us a first round pick to make it work.
If he doesn’t even know we were getting fleeced, and just do whatever to make LeGM happy, then the dude is a snake and has no responsibility to his job. |
