Sure, and if that's the case then that just confirms the incompetence. |
Why couldnβt Ingram and Tatum co-exist the way Jaylen Brown and Tatum co-exist? Or Paul George and Kawhi?
(I mean, obviously they could have. Iβm more asking why the Lakers FO thought that.) |
Well, presumably because they were fixated entirely on Ball and never bothered to spend any time/energy on anyone else e.g. Tatum. |

Even Zo and BI were great together, but couldn't stay healthy. I think they had a winning record here when the two of them played. Just a shame that young players are injury prone. |
I truly think that the Lakers thought Lonzo would bring forth Showtime again. But he was too injury prone, and his inability to shoot on the Lakers hurt too. He can be an elite role player if he's more durable, but I don't think he merited a #2 pick, particularly with Tatum on the board at the same time.
I wonder if BI/Tatum played, how much that would affect their development together. And certainly having LBJ aboard, would that have just meant that BI/Tatum are on the Pels? I mean obviously would be great if you had LBJ/AD/Tatum but yeah... |
Im thinking, if we got Tatum and our 2019 team stayed healthy, maybe we make a playoff push and wait it out a year for AD in the end. Who knows how the situation would be, but he panned out immediately for Boston. Makes me think the same would be true here _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

Incompetence ruled the day then. Lonzo worked out in front of our actual basketball people and it was reported that he bombed the workout. The he supposedly worked out at home for Magic and Pelinka with no basketball talent evaluators present and reportedly looked great. Magic just wanted to draft Lonzo, I donβt know if it was UCLA, Magic wanting to find the next Magic or whatever other reason. I said at the time that the pick was more about Magic than the Lakers. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

And you still can't get around the fact that Boston had the # 1 pick, and if the Lakers gave Tatum a serious pitch, Boston wouldn't have traded out of that pick. There was nothing forcing Boston to pick at # 3. |

But he was still the correct pick over Fultz (who they would've had a shot at if Boston keeps the # 1 pick), Fox, Jackson, and pretty much everyone else in the first round other than Mitchell and Bam. But a lot of teams missed on those 2. |

Lonzo would be perfect for the team currently.
Tatum would have been traded to NO for Anthony Davis along with Brandon Ingram.
Everybody also loves talking about the Lakers missing out?
Consider The 76ers. Drafted Okafor instead of Porzingis, and Fultz instead of Tatum.
Imagine if the 76ers had Tatum and Porzingis paired with Embiid and Simmons. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

And you're ignoring Goodrich25's post where a clever FO could have given the appearance of pursuing Ball but ended up picking Tatum.
You're also missing the bigger point: it's better to have tried and failed then to not try at all. The Lakers did not try AT ALL. Boston was free and clear to play their gambit and win. |

I agree that Zo would help us so much right now. The creator LBJ hoped Russ could be!!!
As for the 76ers, whoa, never thought of that...with a decent point guard, that's a scary big line-up that can shoot from everywhere (except Ben Simmons).
PG ???
SG Tatum
SF Simmons (primary ball handler)
PF KP
C Embiid
When contracts come due, that's a tough team to keep together, but it could compete for 3-4 years. _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap |

Or look at it this way, with Simmons
PG Simmons (primary ball handler)
SG
SF Tatum
PF KP
C Embiid
Then all they'd need is a sharpshooter/two-way at the 2(like a KCP type) and they'd be a VERY hard to stop team and tbh probably one of the biggest/longest teams in Basketball. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

KCP at SG, or a Danny Green Type...yikes, that would be fun to watch. They would be long like our 2020 squad, and the Defense would be great because of switchabilit!! Nice roster construction MJST...Do it Mitch, errr Pelinski! _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap |

I feel for him man.
IMO, Zo makes winning plays.
Unfortunately, if his legs never get right, his career will be short. _________________ ππ π π π #18!!! |

LiAngelo stole sunglasses so, so LaMelo could steal the show. _________________ ππ π π π #18!!! |

When Lonzo is a free agent I would still sign him to a friendly $5M deal. Bring in Melo as the franchise star and give Gelo a spot on a min.

Zo started off his career being hampered with his jumper. Got that fixed, but then he was always injured. I'm glad we didn't have to extend him to a huge deal as I always felt he would not last in a 100+ game season (regular + playoff). |

The knee problems are only symbolic of a bigger issue:
Quote: | In five NBA seasons, Ball has yet to last a full season without an injury. His list of ailments during his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans included a sprained MCL, a torn ankle ligament and injuries to his adductor, knee, hip flexor, shoulder and thumb. He averages 50.4 games per season β 64.6% of the total games possible (252 of 390) β and never has played more than 63 games in a season. |
Inflammation, poor diet, whatever it is-- they have to resolve it ASAP. I really want to see him do well. Chicago looks like a borderline playoff team without him. |
