You do know that Embiid/KD have also missed entire seasons with injury, right?
One should also note that Embiid and KD performed at a very high level while still being considered one of the best players in the NBA.

One should also note that AD would be picked belowed all of the players listed above, except for maybe Bam (very talented player that is one notch below the others)

If AD comes back and performs at a high level, then he will return to being one of the top 5 players in the NBA. Since this next season is very important to AD's career, wouldn't one think that he would have a "Black Mamba Mentality" - being that he is a great fan and student of Kobe????

Embiid's Injury History

https://bolavip.com/en/nba/joel-embiid-injury-history-20210317-0021.html
"A big part of that is learning to stay healthy, cutting down on risk, and doing what he can to keep his body in good shape. We have seen what he can do with nearly seventy games, there’s no telling what he could do with a full eighty two."
"Joel Embiid is a great player, but a player is only as good as their health. If an athlete gets injured or can’t stay ahead of his issues, he’s never going to be considered one of the all time greats. Embiid can get there, especially given his recent stats, but it’s going to take some work."

KD's Injury History
2021
"The two-time Finals MVP has suffered his fair share of bumps and bruises, but Durant has perhaps been an anomaly among superstars returning from injury, specifically his Achilles tear. According to an article by FiveThirtyEight.com, players are rarely the same after an Achilles injury, as almost every player experiences a drop in their total efficiency ratings. Stars like Kobe Bryant, Rudy Gay, and Chiney Ogwumike all understandably declined in production."
"Last April, Kevin Durant suffered a left thigh contusion in the first half against the Miami Heat and did not return, with the Nets exercising extra caution to look after their once-injury ridden star. Durant made contact with winger Trevor Ariza while driving to the rim and was in visible pain as he walked off the court."
" two-time finals MVP wound up missing more than half of Brooklyn’s regular-season schedule (72 games) with the injury. Perhaps Durant’s prolonged recovery came as a result of his Achilles operation, as soft-tissue injuries are a prevalent issue amongst athletes who previously underwent major surgeries."
2019
"Golden State’s then-superteam composed of Durant, Curry, and Thompson was aiming to win its third ring in a row. In the second round of playoffs against the Houston Rockets, Durant suffered a calf injury that took him out for nine games. He would return in the Finals against the Toronto Raptors, but that game is one that will live in infamy: Durant tore his Achilles tendon in Game 5 and eventually underwent surgery."
2016
"In Durant’s first year with the Warriors, he sustained a Grade 2 MCL sprain and tibial bone bruise in his left knee after teammate Zaza Pachulia fell into his knee. The injury looked like a season-ender at the time, but Durant missed just 19 games and went on to win the 2017 Finals MVP award after averaging 35.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists with .556/.474/.927 shooting splits."
2014
Before his Achilles injury, NBA fans were deeply concerned about Durant’s foot and whether it would derail his career.

In October of 2014, literally right at the start of the season, it was determined that Durant needed surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot. This marked the third operation in six months (!) on Durant’s right foot."

===

Personally, I hope that AD returns to form and learns how to limit unnecessary injuries while bringing another ring. Noting that AD's spurt of growth while he was very young has resulted in fragile bones, hopefully he is incorporating ways to strengthened his bones and ways to maximized his talents while limiting risks in his style of play.

MJ, Kobe, Bird, Curry and many great players have suffered major injuries but have found ways to stay on the court while playing at a very high lever.

should be like Giannis, muscular but lean, not bulky, high stamina and can run like deer
Sure I'd love that too, but Giannis is a once in a decade unicorn, even Giannis' own siblings can't quite replicate his otherworldly gifts.
yeah but AD was closest to Giannis, he has the talent/athleticism as well. We all saw it during the championship run. Plus he's still 29 yrs old. AD can do it. (also get to avg 3pt percentage, like 33-34%)
Agree to disagree, AD, as gifted as he is, is not in the same stratosphere as Giannis - no one is.
no need to disagree, you're right at this point. Giannis-AD was neck and neck in 2020 but Giannis has left AD in the dust since. I'm just saying the type of workout AD needs should be modeled after Giannis
Unfortunately, The Greek Freak (along with Luka, Embiid and Jokic have left AD in the dust.

Key question is how will AD respond to the many challenges that he is facing this off-season? Does he has what it takes to be The Face of the Lakers and to be recognized as one of the top players in the NBA - by his achievements that goes far beyond his uber talents

In LBJ and Westbrook, he is playing with two players who have managed to be available and still perform at a very high level

How many posters believe that AD will be able to stay on the court at least 65 games next season??? What are the odds????

No one has Kobe's maniacal devotion. Let's start with that.

AD clearly works on his body. Last summer he really bulked up his upper body, and you could tell, b/c his mobility and agility were affected by it. Early in the season he just didn't have the same pop that he did when he was lighter.

I don't think he's a guy who sits on his butt all summer. Just think getting bulked up was a misguided plan for him.

Athletes or people who only work on upper body are lazy. Everything about AD's body and regiment shows me he's lazy in the offseason. In a sport like basketball, POWER comes from your core/trunk and explosiveness comes from your lower body. Everything about your lower body contributes to health and athleticism on the floor.

Who in god's name advised him that getting a bigger upper body would help his game at all?

You need a strong lower half of the body and a rock solid core to be strong and explosive in this game.

Saying his plan was "misguided" is a huge understatement. At worse, it just shows that this guy doesn't put in the time, research or work to prepare his body for an 82+ game season.

You ask “who advised him to bulk up”? We all did. We still do every time someone insists Davis is best suited as the Lakers center.

The man was trying to fill the role he was forced into playing after the Big 3 had their meeting. And after the Lakers chose to sign the limited centers they did, and then not play them.

IMO Davis’ awkwardness is more due to his infamous growth spurt then his work habits. The young man looks like a baby giraffe at times due to his body not adjusting. He was never a center or developed a center’s balance or base.

The biggest favor the Lakers can do for him to maximize his talents is to sign a couple of capable full time centers to allow him to use his athleticism.

Same philosophy applies to James. He is not a PF. He is not going to do the work or grind as a PF. He is a perimeter player that is showing his age. In theory the Lakers have the length at SF so many want to see. He is just 5 years too late.

Roster construction was disappointing due to these expectations that failed. It is now up to them to fix it. We will see if they can. Perhaps they will give Ham a fighting chance with a better balanced roster. We shall see.

Ironically, in today's "position-less" style of play, AD & LBJ are well-suited in playing the 5

How would the "Designated 5" be effective if he is forced to play in the perimeter to allow LBJ/AD and others drive the paint?

Noted that today's effective centers (Embiid, Jokic) are playing on the perimeter and in the paint. How many similar players would accept being the 3rd option (Embiid and Jokic would not)?

His regimen appears to be no much different than mine. I haven't shot a basketball lately either.

His regimen is not like Shaq's or Kobe's, nor should it be anything like either. First, Shaq was famous for not HAVING a training regimen while Kobe was borderline sociopathics. AD's regimen needs to focus on increased flexibility and strengthening up certain parts of his body. I see nothing wrong with taking a few months away from the court to de-compress get right physically.

I liked the tribute that Adam Sandler had in his recent movie referencing Kobe practicing at 4am to practice before practice to Bo Cruz. Whatever AD’s training routine is like, I hope he can keep from as many injuries.

Neither.

Both Shaq and Kobe were a lot healthier players.
