Haha…it would be on brand tho. They love keeping it in the family…that’s all I’m saying.

Would definitely be on brand.

    Laker Family - Check
    Former Head Coach - Check
    Phil Jackson Favorite - Check
Meets Ham's "coaches that like to roll up their sleeves and are able to get out there" - Check
    Would come cheap - Check

Also noteworthy, the Lakers don't own the Sparks anymore. So the decision to fire Fish didn't come from their org.

I have no problem with Fisher. He's bright, a 5 time champion. Is there a reason why folks don't like him? His time with the Knicks doesn't count. They sucked.

I love that they retained a couple guys for continuity. That's a big deal. Phil Handy I wanted back if we could do it. Maybe he carries over the Vogel defensive schemes for the team so we aren't rebuilding there.

Sheed is a whatever. Doubt we are putting much heavy lifting on him. I suspect he's just that vet voice to challenge the other vets and maybe do some light player development with younger guys.

Since Ham is gonna be duplicating X’s and O’s getting Terry Stotts as the lead assistant and offensive coordinator makes a lot of sense, Stotts was great when it came to X’s and O’s.

Oh wow. Already? Is he still the GM then? Isn't the season still going?

Sorry I know this thread is about Ham, I just found that announcement surprising.

(I'll go find my own answers on Twitter and see myself out now...)

EDIT: Oh this is the Assistants thread. Well then I don't feel like such a q-dork

The players around the league loved Rasheed -- even if the refs did not. Great talent, higher basketball IQ than people think if you've ever heard him talk about the game, and gives away thousands of winter coats to underprivileged youngsters in Philadelphia every winter.

Plus Darvin Ham can send him out for post-game press conferences.

"Rasheed, What can you say about the Lakers getting 4 free throws the entire game compared to 32 for the Clippers?

"Both teams played hard."

"Don't you think that was an obvious disparity?"

"Both teams played hard."

Is there a limit of number of assistants you can have?

It's probably good the Lakers let the assistant go who was actively (bleep) talking Laker players & fellow Laker coaches in DMs

Who do you guys think Cranjis is referring to in his post? Penberty, Lucas or Fiz?

I don't know the max assistants 1 team can have, but on the bench, there could only be a head coach, a trainer, and 3 assistants.

Shams tweeted wrote:

Sources: Four-time NBA All-Star Rasheed Wallace has agreed on a deal to be an assistant coach for the Lakers under new head coach Darvin Ham. Both were teammates in Detroit and part of the 2004 title team. Memphis‘ Penny Hardaway hinted today Wallace may join Ham in LA.

But Then Shams tweeted wrote:

For further context: Wallace was recently identified as a candidate for Ham’s staff. The two sides have not yet reached a formal contract stage.

If those were the only message from Mike, doesn't seem like a big deal. Maybe Cranjis is overexaggerating or maybe he knows of some other messages? But if this is all there is, seems pretty mild.

Handy is a good stay over.
He’s won rings with many franchises and is a strong voice not afraid to even speak up to Lebron.

I'm guessing that's because he wants a lead assistant role. With Handy taking one of those three spots (I assume he didn't get demoted), if you drop Sheed into another, you still need an offensive and defensive guru and someone with HC experience (which they've all said they want). Trying to nail that in one guy is going to be impossible. Again, all my speculation, but it could also be Sheed's crazy anti-vaxx (bleep).

I think that Charania just got an inaccurate leak. It's a risk that goes with being an insider and making your living on being the first one to break stories. It's not a big deal, really. Charania is not Jack Haley.

Steve Clifford is the person they should be targeting. Former head coach who had some success (post Vogel in Orlando actually). Been an assistant for the Lakers before, has worked with Ham, isn't currently in line for another head gig. Low hanging fruit, so long as Ham doesn't pull a Mark Jackson or Luke Walton (refusing to hire outside their pals).

I always thought Rasheed Wallace had mental problems, getting so many technicals. Skilled player, but irrational at times.

I'd really like to see 1 game suspensions at 7 instead of 15.

So far a good staff. Rasheed Wallace is an interesting choice.

Dude is gonna either make AD the toughest bigman in the league, or AD is gonna die. No middle ground.
