Very strange signing. Not 3 and not D.

Why give this guy that important contract?

Based on potential.

34% from 3 and 80% from the line for his career is not bad and his shot looks good. Also, people have been bashing his defense but from what I've seen he can lock people down when he is engaged and focused.

He's just inconsistent with both but consistency comes with more experience. Another offseason and 82 games will help round out his game for a playoff push, If we are good enough for the playoffs

Unless he doesn't play, he SHOULD work out better for us than Nunn did the entirety of last season

At the press conference a reporter said he was 37% from 3 after the all star break. He can be better than Jordan Poole

Also averaged more than 16ppg after ASB… he was horrible to start the season. His pretty much a stronger Monk with better D… Hopefully just like Monk he has a break out season with the Lakers.

In today's NBA landscape, he's worth $6.5M. Upside, athletic ability, good kid. It's just a question if using our best FA tool on a redundant piece was wise. I think not. He shares the same flaws as THT. But if we can get Kyrie, the fit makes more sense. If we can turn THT into something better fitting, it makes a lot of sense.

When I watched the highlight, he looked very much like THT, sharing the same weakness. Not sure why we have both of them on the team.

He shoot’s better than THT and THT is stronger than him. THT game relies on contact. Lonnie’s game is more smoother imo

I don't know much about the recent spurs defense so I'm gonna wait and see. To my knowledge the Bucks played a zone that defended the paint and defended wing 3s while conceding half court 3s

Yea I don't see the THT comparison at all...

Walker is more athletic smoother type of player. He also shoots better than THT... Walker can also finish with his left hand.

Hield also makes $21m... If Hield can be snagged for mle then I don't see the point of the comparisons here.

Buddy also came into the NBA like at 25 years old. I think Walker is younger right now that Hield was as a rookie

Lakers fans be talking stuff on Lonnie Walker IV. But when they were shown one video of Westbrook shooting corner threes in practice and they were all "He's gonna improve his three point shooting this year for sure!"

Maybe some were but I sure as hell wasn’t.

Perhaps not. But a lot seem to be very selective about what they will bash or panic about when they want to be negative.

Going back to Russ for a moment.

Lakers fans be talking stuff on Lonnie Walker IV. But their defense for Westbrook all year was "Just wait till the 2nd half of the season!".

Well Lonnie Walker IV's second half of the season averaged

15.1 PPG
2.7 RPG
1.8 AST
0.5 STL
44.9% Field Goal
35.7% Three Pointer(on 6 attempts a game)
70% Free Throw

Coming off the bench playing 24 MPG

I'd say that's pretty darn good for a backup shooting guard for us.

The fact people thought Westbrook was gonna change his stripes at 33 but that Lonnie Walker IV has no upside left at 23, is interesting.

I don’t know who these mythical people are. I don’t remember a lot of people who genuinely believed Westbrook was going to turn into a good shooter in Year 14. If these people existed they were wrong. Similarly, Walker is a poor shooter (though not as helpless as Westbrook). If he becomes a great shooter all of a sudden that would be great but it shouldn’t be expected and it’s not wrong to say that he’s not a good shooter right now because he isn’t. We are all hoping that changes but today is July 7th, 2022 and he’s a bad shooter.

3 Point %

2019 - 38.5% on 0.8 attempts, 33.3% on c&s, 40.0% wide open
2020 - 40.6% on 1.7 attempts, 40.7% on c&s, 40.3% wide open
2021 - 35.5% on 4.7 attempts, 38.4% on c&s, 38.6% wide open
2022 - 31.4% on 5.0 attempts, 33.2% on c&s, 32.4% wide open

He had a down year last year for some reason, especially in the first half of the season. I don't think he just forgot how to shoot all of a sudden. We'll see how he does this year.
