And lose him for far less before or after the deadline unless they give him what he wants…a multi-year deal with no stipulations.

There isn’t much less than Westbrook and two picks over half a decade in advance. They traded their first round pick for O’Neal, they are gunning for the EC title. Westbrook or future picks don’t help them with that.

Let’s see what they end up with if they hold on to him.

Obviously they will end up with Kyrie

With Brooklyn Nets training camp set to start on Sept. 27, it appears increasingly likely that Kyrie Irving will remain a Net.

Amid reports that Irving and Kevin Durant have been working out together in California, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Monday, “[S]ources with knowledge of the situation say [Irving] has been working out with teammates and holding constructive dialogue with the organization this offseason. Brooklyn has made clear to interested teams that they plan to keep the seven-time All-Star, according to sources.

Signs of a rapprochement between the Nets and Irving came earlier this month when Irving played in an all-star game at Kean University and the Nets’ official social media accounts posted video and still photos from the event.

The Nets could still extend Irving at any time, but opted not to do so after last season due to concerns about his availability.

NJ Advance Media reported last month that both Irving and Durant “know” a trade is “unlikely” to happen. The Nets have reportedly been asking for a king’s ransom in return for Durant, one of the best players in league history.

“They know behind the scenes that it’s difficult, that it’s unlikely to happen,” a league source said of a potential trade.

You pair all that above with Bron’s extension news cutting into Ky’s potential max bag next summer by walking into our cap space, and it sure looks like any leverage we seemingly had is now out the door…joining Russ. The question then becomes, when are they out the door: this season or next offseason.

Please see the Cap Q&A thread for details, but the most we can offer Ky in free agency next summer is 36.8m, which is about 11m short of his true max bag.

So a few days ago they wanted win now players for Kyrie. And today they’re telling teams (lol) that they’re keeping him. Alright then.

Nothing with Kyrie is obviously.

That's not even the bad part. The bad part is that reaching that point would require us to strip the roster to an extent that is almost comical. We would have only three players (plus the room exception player) making more than the minimum. If you bear in mind that one of those players would be 39, it's just a ludicrous scenario.

2023 cap space was never about signing Kyrie or anyone major. Unless they are the defending champions, the Lakers will absolutely avoid the repeater tax in 23-24.

Nothing new, it’s just Shams in a vid detailing the recent Ky stalemate and mentioning the Lakers in particular as a team that supposedly is out among other “interested teams” in the Ky sweepstakes…

The fact that BKN is asking for win now players, and now stating that they are now not interested in trades, makes it clear to me that they are just pulling out all their stunts in the 11th hour to see if there is a better deal out there than whatever pelinka offered. I’m thinking a trade gets done within a few days. Too much posturing and elevated ultimatums daily for a trade not to go down imo

It is absolutely disgusting that the Lakers are so insistent on having a max slot next summer, especially if it is only about avoiding the repeater tax, instead of paying that tax and signing the right players to deals for more than one or two years in order to contend for a championship.

Do the Lakers/LeBron not care about winning championships anymore?

Unless Brooklyn extends Kyrie, he’s likely going to be a Laker next summer, maybe even by trade deadline if things don’t start off well.

^Imho I really doubt this happens bro. We gotta move on and it was fun to contemplate, but if we’re really being honest with ourselves, we realistically never had a shot at this happening.

Btw, I do think Nash is eventually gone tho.

I know Tsai doesn't want to look like he bent and fired Nash for KD, but Quinn Snyder is available and would be a MASSIVE upgrade.

If they were to make that move, they would come out this offseason big winners to overcome all that drama and have that be the resolution.

Bad news for us and the league. Was really hoping they would break up. Praying for chaos for them. LOL! Because man Kyrie is going to be on his best behavior. He's auditioning for his next deal. KD is going to be KD, and Ben Simmons has no pressure to score. He'll help push the pace and lock people up. The Nets are freaking good. That's the funny thing about all this. KD has a championship team in front of him.

The irony on banking on Kyrie's Krazy to blow them up, but somehow believing the same krazy won't happen in LA. This was really a funny moment in Laker history. Lets move on.

Irving is a head case, he burned bridges with the Cavs, he burned bridges with the Celtics, he started things burning with the Nets..

His decision not to get a simple COVID shot, ruffled lots of feathers..

Hell yes, he is talented, um, so was Westbrook..

But once a head case, always a head case, just ask Rodman...
