In a team sport, it is not a good look to be the guy who isn't willing to make a sacrifice.

As of now Lakers supposedly will have $30.3 million in cap space next summer. They can trade Jones and Christie to free up another $4.3 million, so that’s about $34.6 million to play with... dang.

That is utter nonsense. Refusing to be coerced into taking a vaccine with zero longitudinal data that is also empirically proven to NOT prevent virus contraction or transmission is not an example of being unwilling to “sacrifice” for the team.

There are plenty of reasons to question Kyrie’s commitment. His vaccine refusal is not one of them.

Agreed. It should be completely understandable if one doesn’t want to take the vaccine (which has such conflicting data on it thus far) though Nets got kinda screwed, not being able to replace the salary owed to Kyrie and use elsewhere.

If we get Kyrie via cap-space (and with a significant paycut) in 2023, that paves the way for another max signing in 2024 if Lebron leaves. AD-Ky-Jaylen would be nice.

Stealing Jaylen from the Celtics would be so sweet.

Nice Dream

If Kyrie is “with” the Lakers, will he demand/require/believe that being a “Co-GM” is part of the package?
How many games will he actually play?
Imagine the constant soap opera madness that will come with Kyrie
Is he dependable or reliable?

Celtics won’t allow Jayden Brown leave

How many games will AD actually play?

👀

Nets and Kyrie are using each other at this point. Kyrie will be on his best behavior for 1 year if he intends on getting another multi-year deal and the nets use good Kyrie for 1 year and shot at chip and then move on.

The “belief” is that the #Lakers are trying to keep as much cap space available next summer for Kyrie Irving when he becomes a free agent.

LA will “try” their best in any trade to not take back any long-term salary past this year.

Meanwhile they waste possibly LeBron’s last superstar season.

This is how bad franchises operate. It's amazing Jeanie leans of Phil for "process" and she doesn't understand about being in the present moment. The price to trade Russ for expirings IMO = 2 FRPs, so that effectively means we won't trade him. So we punt yet another year of LBJ/AD for this?

And when you open up negotiations with Kyrie, you can only offer him 66% of the max. Is that a good final offer? I think (and secretly hope) the Nets just extend him so the Lakers can stop with the foolish 2023 cap space idiocy.

Kyrie enjoys the drama so that ain’t gonna happen either.

Nah, it will just be a pointless goose chase just like Kawhi Leonard.

The best solution then would be to let Westbrook expire

So they're betting everything that the Nets implode more than we do this season so that we're the attractive spot at half the max?

Hm.

If they implode, no doubt Ky will probably be a part of the reason. But that's a terrible strategy to rely on that as I think the Nets low key have a really good team is Simmons can come back healthy.

Talent isn't their main issue though. And having Simmons may actually exacerbate that main issue. I agree though that we shouldn't be banking on a Kyrie discount.

The Lakers are being foolish in putting all their eggs in the Kyrie basket instead of going after a Westbrook trade that could give them a shot at contending now.

In all likelihood, they will strike out on Kyrie, and even if they get him, they'll have no cap space to field a decent team around him, LeBron and AD. They'll have to field a supporting cast full of elderly has-beens just like last season.

Lebron not even there? That’s lame. It would have been must see video if he was.

Building around 2 stars is a solid plan. I'd pass up the Kyrie pipe and
focus on winning now while watching out for potential youngsters that
could develop into key players on or off the bench.
