On the bench with Huff and Matty Ice?
Maybe they're only around to even out the practice squads.

GM survey says . . .

Bucks to win the title

Lakers rank 8th in the West

Doncic to win MVP

Giannis is the pick if starting a new franchise

Curry/Booker/Durant/Giannis/Jokic are the best at their positions

Cavs made the best offseason moves

Mitchell will make the biggest impact among acquisitions

Brogdon is the most underrated acquisition

Clippers will be the most improved team

The Gobert trade was the biggest surprise

There is a LOT more.

1. I'm interested to see how Don and Darius pair up. Will one have to take a back seat? A part of me thinks they will be like the Dame/CJ Blazers, but with better bigs.
2. I'd be surprised if the Bucks win the title but Giannis not winning the MVP. Dallas would have to be one of the best teams for Doncic to win the MVP (or he'd have to go super saiyan, which I dont see him doing throughout the regular season). And Dallas is going to miss Brunsun and they won't be as good record wise.
3. Lakers will make the biggest jump record wise, and be most improved.

Did anybody notice the different narratives of Bron’s influence on the Indy trade talks? The “con-Bron angle” by the anonymous “Athletic Staff” versus the “pro-Bron narrative” by Shams, Buha & Amick. Kind of shows how fragmented our executive branch is…2 different Klutch narratives from supposedly the same Lakers source.

Lakers star Lebron James also put pressure on the team to make the deal, according to sources. They eventually determined the cost would be too great, and decided against it, per sources. In the end, the Lakers chose not to make the formal offer after several long debates among the stakeholders, a collaboration that led to a prudent, patient approach to the Pacers conversations. A potential deal would’ve meant that the Lakers in effect would have traded Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the chance to re-sign Alex Caruso and three first-round picks for Turner and Hield, when taking into account the totality of the original Westbrook trade.

In addition, James has shown support publicly and privately to integrating Westbrook and playing with the former league MVP again this season, and multiple sources said he applied no pressure to the Lakers front office to do the Pacers’ deal. Seven months have passed since James’ tweet supporting the “f— them picks” approach of Rams GM Les Snead led some to wonder how he saw the Lakers’ strategy, and sources say he remains supportive of the current regime. And while Pelinka made it clear on media day that he’s willing to trade precious picks in the right deal, that time has yet to arrive.

seems to me like no one knows what they are talking about. we have two guesses and one must be right. I take all reports like this to be more speculation than anything. Maybe they got a little info and they just fill in the blank with all the fluff they can think of.

There's no way to know what this means.

1. Did different sources see or hear different things about Lebron's actions?

2. Did different sources see the same actions, but they had different opinions about whether those actions constituted pressure?

3. Are different sources trying to spin the story differently?

To begin to interpret this stuff, you need to know specifically what Lebron did or said. Political reporters tend to report this type of thing better than sports reporters, in part because their sources tend to be more articulate and they tend to have more of an agenda to push.

I always thought the key for the Lakers was finding the right player to pair with LeBron and AD in the frontcourt. In 2020 they found that in Markieff, who was probably best described as a 4/3. With LeBron aging more into a Point-Center (especially late in games), and Davis settled in more as a forward, that archetype might have changed a bit to something more of a 3/4.

They don't need to be a great ball handler, but do need to have good positional size, defend the perimeter well and space. Not an easy position to fill (too bad Robert Covington found his way to the Clippers).

Just a kind of short list of players who might fit the bill, and are also free agents of some sort this summer (at least until extensions are signed):

Jerami Grant
Kyle Kuzma
Andrew Wiggins
Harrison Barnes
Bojan Bogdanovic
Kelly Ourbre Jr
Jae Crowder
DeAndre Hunter
Rudy Gay
Cam Reddish
Cam Johnson
Jeff Green
Justise Winslow
Brandon Clarke
Stanley Johnson

We need forwards of size more than another guard and center. Those two are not forwards, so no thank you.

Agree. We keep talking about Turner and Hield like they will change this team. Turner is always hurt and Hield doesn't play defense. Actually, I liked how Russ looked yesterday. We need better shooters and spacing. I think Brown and Schroder will help a ton.
Also, I want Ham to stick to lineups over time versus tinkering. Vogel did way too much of that....

More so now than before after watching the game. Turner and Heild over Jones and Nunn would be a huge plus on both sides in total.

I think last night showed that Bryant and Jones are serviceable, but limited. Yes, AD at the 5 is still our best lineup…but having Turner effectively eat a lot of the C minutes during the season would be a huge lift on both sides of the ball.

I don’t love the Indy deal, but it undoubtedly makes us markedly better.

Anything to have his name up there I guess. No way he's picked over Giannis, so the small forward it is.

With GMs loving KD so much, sadly no one traded for him

A good front office wouldn't let the record to start the season be a major driver on whether or not to make an early season deal. It's a brand new roster and coaching staff, and we have a tough early draw. Unless Russ shows he just doesn't want to be here (which appears very unlikely at this stage), we're at a point where we need to see how our many new additions pan out before looking to reshuffle the roster.

Basically, it's time to move on from the Russ novella and focus more broadly on how the season unfolds.

i'm in a science fiction mood today. just entertain me. if we start off hot, do we assume it is fool's gold and sell russ high or do we convince ourselves that ham solved the impossible puzzle and believe that we're gonna win the chip.
