Score more points than the opponent on a nightly basis?

If they are able to do that 82 times in the regular season and then 16 times in a row in playoffs = auto champs!

Its even easier than that! If you don't think you can outscore them then just force them to score fewer than you.

Lol, how about forcing the opponent to forfeit ?? Don't even have to actually play the games!

Besides AD and LeBron being healthy we need to hope Lonnie/JTA/Bryant Improve.

To be a good team or to be a championship team let’s keep in mind that this was a championship team with Health from LeBron and Anthony Davis and some rotational pieces we didn’t even have a third guy when we won the championship To be a good team all we need is that again probably to win the championship we probably need a third guy to step up

Depends on what you mean by being good... If you mean win more games than lose, then we can be good. If you mean be championship contenders, then I think this is really unlikely, but crazier things have happened.

In order of importance:

1-LeBron & AD play to potential ability including both skills + availability
2-Defense top quality implemented by Ham, executed by players
3-Bryant, Jones don’t suck at C
4-Walker, Reeves, or a mystery player don’t suck at SG
5-Nunn, Bev, Shroeder don’t suck at PG
6-Suitable reserve play at forward from JTA, TBjr, Gabriel

LBJ and AD may be enough to carry a team of decent role players to a championship if at the top of their game, especially if the team has a top defense…did it already. Would have a better chance if we get quality play offensively from C, SG, and or PG. Also need someone to have a breakout season player well above expectations as a reserve 3 and 4.

If at least some of the things mentioned in this thread happen, the Lakers could actually surprise people this season.

I'm not saying they could contend, but the two differences between this year's and last year's squad are we're MUCH younger now, and we actually have some good role players now.

Last year, we lacked role players who could give LeBron + AD + Russ support. Now, we have Pat Bev, Schroder, JTA, Nunn (if healthy), Reaves and Thomas Bryant.

What we lack right now is two 3-and-D wings: one who can play the 2 and 3, and one who can comfortably play the backup 4 spot.

Reaves could satisfy the first need if he becomes a good 3-point shooter, as could Troy Brown Jr. if he does the same thing.

If we had a legit backup 4 like that, we could make some noise if we stay healthy and Ham turns out to be a good coach.

We need to get better forwards. I kind of find it insane that we are not planning this in advance given AD/LBJ's recent injury histories.

I would feel so much better if we had even a Bogs level backup combo forward who was able to score 15-20ppg a night. I think our lack of size at the wing positions, lack of forwards will need to be addressed. If we can do that, I think we can be a much more successful team than what we have now.

Anyone who has played any level of competitive basketball knows that yes, you can have a smaller player defend bigger players. But in the long run, it's physically taxing and not really sustainable IMO.

Lebron and Davis need to be healthy 70 games and be playoff ready.

Somebody else needs to play at least NBA starter level - Dunn, Schroder, Ar-15...

The center tandem needs to be effective, and I think it can be.

I think those three things makes us a good team - a first to second round playoff team.

That's the very best the 2022-2023 Team could strive for......

I think to succeed the Front Office and coaching staff should construct a roster and rotate the players such that they are better positioned for productivity and not put in a position to fail.

Eliminate or limit using 6’8” or smaller players at C (such as LeBron)
Eliminate or limit using 6’6” or smaller players at PF (such as JTA)
Eliminate or limit using 6’5” or smaller players at SF (such as Reeves)
Eliminate or limit using 6’3” or smaller players at SG (such as Nunn, Shroeder, Bev)

I know sometimes it may have to be done but it should not be plan A or B, exceptions only when no choice….

And if the team has no choice at the start of training camp?…after suffering so much from doing it last season…then we need another GM.

So far I don't think they are doing well at some of these above.

rumor has it for example they are considering Beverely to guard wings. Nunn and Beverely are being consider for SG position. Reeves is being considered for SF.

This seems to have evolved into a Captain Obvious thread, (which is fine..lol)..

But I think the key to next season for the Lakers starters is HEALTH.

Sadly, for last year's Lakers, is the fact that Westbrook was the most healthy player....

LeBron needs to stay healthy, AD needs to stay healthy, Nunn needs to be healthy. Along with the rest of the key supporting staff...

With your best/key position players healthy, you can build on the continuity of them playing together. Look how many different line-ups the Lakers were forced to use last year, the Coach was doomed by this.

Look at the Clippers; Khawi was out, the Nets; Durant out and both of those teams vastly under-achieved. Look at the GS Warriors; they finally got healthy and WON IT ALL...

(now go eat your Wheaties...)

New season and my optimism for a good season is high again.

C - finally some youthful legs TB and DJ and a 3 n D center in TB. Hopefully open up the floor.
PF - heathy AD, can see LBJ backing him up at PF and JTA and WG some minutes.
SF - heathy LBJ, see JTA, Brown, AR battling for minutes best one wins
SG - got some real competition here should be fun to see who come out on top. Nunn, PB, LW, AR
PG - with a new coach (new voice and contract stability) can get RW to focus on Def this year, else cya. I very comfortable with DS, PB, Nunn or AR in this slot.

Coach - hoping a presence in the locker room, better offense. Defensively Vogel is outstanding too bad he was given defensive duds for players last year. Hoping coach Ham’s D is close to Vogel’s D with a more youthful Defender in the roster.

Roster - we have speed up and down the roster all can get down. We have grit and dog with PB, DS and TB. We still have our HOF superstars in LBJ, AD and RW. Our shooting does not stand out, hoping with more pace, speed and better offense will turn that around. If you look at the stat of our roster from our championship run, only established 3 pt shooter is Green, it was a break out year for KCP and AC. Hoping some of the youth will do that also this season.

The supporting young wings need to step there games up significantly.
Looking at Reaves, Brown, Swider and even potentially Christie.
Everyone else is essentially who they are.
Need to move one of the point guards as well for another 6-7-6-9 potential 3&D that comes here makes a significant impact.

Guess Handy and Jent would be behind the growth.

I’m defining “good” as winning more games than they lose and being in the playoff race.

#1 LeBron being himself and not missing any significant time

#2 Anthony Davis being healthy and being willing to play a lot of minutes at the 5 (Bryant is rarely healthy and Jones is more of a 3rd string guy)

If those two things happen, they’ll be good no matter what else is happening.

Simple. Everyone on on the team needs to have a "career" year. Of course that includes no significant injuries.

I am not much of a Russ fan. BUT, I don't want them trading him just to trade him. Keep the picks. They won't be a top 4 team in the west, but what if:

AD stays healthy
Westbrook realizes that he can shut everyone up by having his best year ever.
LeBron is still LeBron
Nunn can still move
The "pieces" mesh.

Just sayin'
