One of the greatest musicians in history. This is a huge loss. So far there's not much info, other than reports that she died after a short illness at the age of 79. Fleetwood Mac has issued a statement...

Wow. She was pretty freaking amazing. Talented artist and performer for sure. Saw FM a few times throughout the years, she was always one of the highlights.

Saw her and Lindsey Buckingham about 2-3 years ago touring together. The best vocal part of Fleetwood Mac in my opinion. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!

I was a fan, I saw FM at Super Jam in Busch stadium in 1976. Her performance of Songbird at a concert hall was amazing. FM were an interesting band, Axss TV covered the making of Rumors in their Classic Albums series. Supposedly her song You Make Loving Fun was about their lighting director. Imagine being John McVie and having to play that. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Nothing sounds better than Fleetwood Mac Rumours…nothing.
From start to finish, it’s a masterpiece.

Your kid has obviously done a deep dive on music history. That's awesome. My kids are the same way. They frequently surprise me and impress with the artists of my generation that they gravitate toward through their own musical journey.
On another note, I just listened to Marc Maron interview Adrien Belew and it was easily one of the most interesting interviews of a musician I have heard (and I make it a point to listen to as many as I can). Such a treat to hear a guy discuss such a rich and diverse experience playing with so many influential artists (while being influential in his own right). _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Dude, I love Adrien Belew. Not just King Crimson but his amazing work with both David Bowie and Talking Heads.
What an amazing innovative guitarist.

Yep, one of parts of the interview that really struck a note with my son and I was what he said about working with Fripp. Belew was told after the fact that he was purposely given a series of impossible progressions and guitar parts because Fripp knew Belew was "too stupid" to know they couldn't be done, but he just did them anyway. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I saw the Talking Heads tour with Adrien Belew. Fantastic.
But that's off-topic of this thread.
I'm one of those progressive rock snobs who dissed Fleetwood Mac when they were at their peak. Now in my old age I've grown to recognize how amazingly good they were. The Rumors album is arguably one of the best albums ever made. But even back then, when I refused to give praise to anything played on traditional radio, something about Mcvie's voice grabbed you by the nuts as soon as you heard it. One of the things that made Fleetwood Mac so broadly popular was the fact that they had three very divergent but very talented songwriters who could write solo or together. So they had a lot of different sounds. And while I was taken with Nicks in my younger years and currently just love the amazing talent of buckingham’s guitar, Mcvie was the solid catalyst between them, a role she played as a writer, as a vocalist, and behind the scenes with the band. She wasn’t as flashy but she was every bit an equal in that band, and their very best in some regards. Thanks for all of it Ms. McVie. Rest easy, and we won’t stop believing. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. He totally rules. When I was at his age, I had like 3 albums...
Also, I failed to mention he has all the Clash albums, some Elvis Costello, All of Hendrix, Beach Boys Pet Sounds, Police, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc etc, whatever you are in the mood for.
Back to topic, I have always had a thing for Fleetwood Mac and never really admitted it. Anytime Dreams or Gypsy or The Chain would come on, I would always leave it on.
Despite their infighting, addictions, toxic relationship, they managed to put together arguable the top 10 album ever made. Pretty crazy.

Rumours is one of the few Albums that is legendary from start to end but for me it’s Steely Dan’s AJA album

Well, that would be an asinine choice considering no one said that you had to give up one or the other.
I get why Steely Dan's jazzy, studio musician sound doesn't resonate with some. And I get why people love FM so much. I think they have been amazingly talented and Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock.
But in a world where I never get to listen to either band anymore if I choose to continue listening to Steely Dan versus one listen of Rumors, I'm going with hearing Steely Dan—the payoff is much, much better. I can find something to fill the niche that FM satisfies. It's harder to do that with Steely Dan. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Axxs TV has a great documentary on making Aja, I had no idea it was completed with studio musicians. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

I accept that. It’s a taste thing. I’m just rubbed extremely the wrong way by their sound (Peg is the kind of insistently bland pretentious overproduced elevator smooth jazz tonally bereft earworm that makes me want to murder someone, but ask me how I really feel), kind of like the Grateful Dead (a very different band obviously but a category of bands whose sound just misses me). I respect the musicianship and the talent and the vibe that each create for a huge swath of others, but I could be happy literally never having to hear either again. And I’m never going back to my old school (I admit that one I kind of like maybe once a year or two). _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
