With transition defense being non-existence, was it the Lakers' "big men" just not hustling downcourt or were the Lakers not executing their offensive sets correctly that caused them to be imbalanced defensively?

Both. Our bigmen didn't have it in their heads that the Sonics bigs were running on them and going to get the ball. Offensively, we settled for some bad shots, he made some stupid turnovers. Stupid turnovers and bad shots result in fastbreak opportunities.

Were Smush/Sasha not stopping the Seattle's PGs penetration into the paint that caused the multiple problems? (since Kobe was obviously trying to communicate that point to Sasha?!?!)

I don't know what the Sasha/Kobe thing was. Sasha didn't seem to take exception to it, so who knows? Smush and Sasha played their games. There was an occasional breakdown where no one stopped the ball. Our bigmen gave up way more dunks and layups to their men then they usually do.

Did Turiaff/Bynum improved the transition defense when they were in the game?
Turiaf seemed to play fine when he was out there. Not sure why he didn't get another look. Bynum played average ball, but he was thrown in the first to start the fourth when you don't want guys playing just average.

Why did Jim Jackson didn't play any minutes?

Phil. Doesn't trust him yet...and Luke was stepping up pretty big so we rode that.

With Mihm and DGeorge injuried, on a team that doens't have much depth and/or experience with its subs - what do people think will happen.

Mihm and George have played pretty steady ball of late. These are guys with experience. They will be replaced by players with less experience or less impact. It will hurt. How much depends on how other guys can step up and bring their A games.

DB, with Mihm out for a while do you see Kwame filling the role and stepping up?

We already had a short stretch without Mihm when he sprained his shoulder. Kwame was still Kwame then, I expect he will be the same. We are going to miss Mihm anchoring the D and teams will likely try to drive to the hole with consistency. Offensively, there have been some early game stretches where Mihm carried the team in the post. Hopefully, someone can fill that role.

Remember those sequences where Kwame would brick badly 4 or 5 shots in the post at the rim. We may see more of that. Bynum...he's a crap shoot at this stage of his career.

You will most likely see low post by committee. More Lamar (hopefully), more Cook, Kobe, Smush, Turiaf, etc. Got to mix it up.

You're probably right, i just wish Kwame was more commited on stepping with Mihm out the guy has no heart or any kind of motivation in him when you look at his body you see Jermaine O'Neal and KG. but when you look at his heart he's just another bust.

L.A. Times:

Coach Phil Jackson said Mihm's absence would provide Brown and rookie Andrew Bynum with more playing time and that Brown would have "a little more freedom" as a starter.

"Some of the things he's shown in the past two weeks have been real beneficial for us," Jackson said.

Brown, who is averaging 5.8 points, did not score in Sunday's loss to Seattle. He said he was excited about the prospect of playing center and was most comfortable in that spot.

Brown said he did not feel pressure to become more of a scorer in the absence of Mihm, who was averaging 10.4 points a game.

"I knew when I came into the game my job was to get Kobe open and play defense and I think I did good job of getting him open," Brown said. "But now I think I have to do a little bit of both."

Daily News:
Quote:

The Lakers had issues to deal with on every front Monday, beginning with Mihm and his ankle. Kwame Brown will move back into the starting lineup and the Lakers will have to make do with rookies Andrew Bynum and Ronny Turiaf coming off the bench.

Brown played well in recent games against Detroit's Rasheed Wallace and San Antonio's Tim Duncan, and coach Phil Jackson is eager to see whether he can play at the same level for an extended period.

"Just looking to be consistent and step up on both ends of the court," Brown said.

Even if Mihm is able to return as quickly as Bryant did last season, the Lakers are making no assumptions about his availability for the playoffs. Bryant thought back to where he was a month after his severe sprain last year and offered a painful perspective.

"I was not even close to 100 percent. Nowhere close," Bryant said, later adding about the treatment process: "It almost becomes your life. You just have to rehabilitate it every single day, all day."

Mihm missed six games after spraining the same ankle last season, though the severity was not as great. He missed six games earlier this season with a shoulder injury and Jackson noted Monday that the Lakers went into a 2-4 slide without him.

Thanks for the previous answers.

In answer to getting more offense from the front line players, here's a crazy option that might have some merits for consideration. A possible line-up could be the following:

5 - LO
4 - Cook
3 - Luke
2 - Kobe
1 - Sasha/Smush

Possible variations would be Turiaff/Bynum for Sasha/Smush for a taller line-up

This (the original 5 players listed) would not be a lineup that would be on the court for any extended time, but when the need arises for a energy team with some offensive firepower.
Boards - LO, with some help from Cook could get boards

Defense - Cook the the real liability with Luke able to play good team defense that might be OK for short periods of time

Offense - This line-up would definitely have the firepower

Pressure Defense - this group of players are made of players that can handle the ball (LO, Luke, Kobe, Sasha/Smuch) and spot-up shooters (Cook, Smush/Sasha) to break the zone pressure defense schemes

Energy - Sasha/Smush, Luke and Kobe would be providing most of the energy

Experience - With LO, Kobe, Luke and Cook - hopefully will compensate for Smush/Sasha's lack of experience

It would be the Magic-inspired lineup - LOL
