Quote: | Legendary broadcaster Al McCoy has covered the team ever since. McCoy, who in 2006-07, will broadcast Suns games on radio for the 37th consecutive season, actually simulcast his broadcasts on radio and television for many seasons. McCoy's unique, folksy style of calling the games, including his signature catchphrases such as "Shazam!" for a three-point shot, endeared him to thousands of Suns fans across Arizona, the Southwest, and nationwide. He was partnered for many years with legendary coach Cotton Fitzsimmons. In recent years, former NBA players Vinny Del Negro and Tim Kempton served as color commentators on the radio side, with Del Negro working most regular-season home games and all of the playoffs with McCoy (Del Negro was named Suns director of player personnel during the 2006 offseason).
|
| He's annoying as hell to listen to though, man. Anyway, we can say whatever we want on our own message board. What are you doing here, anyway? BTW, McCoy doesn't hold a candle to the great Chick Hearn, mkay? _________________ Welcome to OverreactionGround.net, where a single possession can make you the savior of mankind or a total moron. -Ozendorph |

No, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't take it nicely if somebody said "This one's in the refrigarator... WTF is that?". I mean 37 years earns anybody some respect. That means he's been around since 1970. Just being around that long, you can say whatever you want. Even if I think it's stupid, I'm just going to ignore it because he's basically a staple for Suns broadcasting, just like the way Chick was for the Lakers for many years. Chick broadcasted 3,388 straight Laker games, which is almost 41 season, so as you can see, the two aren't that far apart, even though Chick's influence on the game was greater with the terms he invented, rather than simply saying a phrase every time a 3pt is made (which is about every 30 seconds for the Suns) _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

This one's for you Wolf:
Bynum, 4-6, 4 rbs, 1 block in about 23-26 min.s
He showed his strength by making layups with contact, didn't get Sterns blessing though. His rebounding needs work, desperately. He did a pretty good job against Amare, on one play Amare tried his hardest to back him up under the basket and Bynum stood his ground. No block but no score on that sequence. The one block I saw was a weak side block of Barbosa that was very nice but nothing new for the kid. His last miss came with time expiring on a fast break where he received the ball after he was already past the basket. the other miss came on a beautiful display of footwork with a spin move against Amare where he tried to lay it in with his left hand off the board, not sure if Amare got a piece of it or if he just missed it.
If I was the coach I'd be showing him the tape and asking why the heck he's running back on D too early, not even trying to get the Off board. Another thing I'm sure you've noticed before is on Offense, sometimes when he's close to the basket and boxed out he doesn't try to spin around the defensive player or offer any kind of challenge for rebounding position.
Oh, and you probably already read about the nice bounce pass for one of his assists. I don't know how many assists he got. |

Wasn't Amare the leading rebounder tonight? Even if he's not 100% he looks pretty active out there. He's well on his way...jus needs to get stronger. |

Thansk Rick ! Much appreciated.
When I see Bynum come in at 18 year old and have games like this - filling in for Kwame - It leads me to believe he is the real deal. He's still so raw and uncertain at times that he's still trying to figure out so many things. Remember Calhoun said that this kid would need 2-3 years before he'd be pro ready. Now, when he would be the expectation was that he'd be one of the highest picks in his draft.
So again, It's all clay with him. There's still a long road ahead for him, but I think games like this (especially matching up with an Amare) give a fan alot of hope. |

The problem is that that's exactly what people have been saying about Webber, Kidd, Penny and a few others for quite some time.
Noone ever returns 100% from microfracture surgery.
Amare was active out there, but I doubt that the freak level athleticism will ever return.
Losing that edge doesn't mean that he won't ever dunk again or get up for a block - we saw him do both tonight, but I'd be shocked to see him do either with anything close to the authority he had before the surgery. |

Hey guys, my post may have come off wrong..actually smiled when I read your original post. Maybe if Id said, "that's Al McCoy man!" It would have made more sense.
Im not going to act like our broadcaster is the same as C. Hearn. No one is. The guy actually invented the term "slam dunk". |

Radmanovic is in his first week of the Triangle. He is going to need sometime. Obviously if you are looking or hearing the guys calling it - he's trying to be a Kukoc. He's trying to do more out there than just shoot the ball.
So we need to give him half a season. He can be just a spot shooter in the offense but I think he's looking at becoming more than that. It will take him some time to figure out his spots and how to play an all-around game. |
