On my way home from work last night I stopped by the Canoga Park Cupid's and a 7-11. At Cupid's, the hot dogs come with chili, mustard, and onions. I got mine with no onion but added cheese. At 7-11 I got a 1/4 lb Big Bite and put some of that cheese-like substance on it. They didn't have any mustard handy.

I ate at Cupid's first, then 7-11. I really should have done it the other way around and saved the best for last. It was striking how much worse the 7-11 dog tasted than the first one. Cupid's has natural casings, so their dogs snap. The chili was awesome. I wanted another one as soon as I finished. The Big Bite doesn't have a natural casing and tasted saltier and a little greasy. The nacho cheese goop isn't terrible, but really it's only purpose is to mask some of the flavor. There was also chili available at 7-11, but I was too scared to try it.

The only problem with this is that it's done Chicago-style, which means it has a bunch of unnecessary (bleep) on it.

Costco dogs are the bomb, with a cold pepsi and a big single slice of cheese pizza, to be topped off with a berry shake. All under 5 bucks. PLUS, the free samples inside! 8)

- I HAVE to hit The Stand soon! I keep hearing about it.

- I think most people that deem Pink's as overrated is mainly because they had to wait in that long ass line, and I can see how that would piss people off!

- Oki Dog will KILL YOU! ...Now THAT'S an overrated spot!

That second one wouldn't be a night-club, would it?

So it was too hot at lunch today and I didn't feel like burning my hands for the sake of lunch. Maybe tomorrow I'll hit The Stand and/or The Weiner Factory (aka 24's Naughty Fantasy )

However, on my way home I did decide to stop by Carney's. I had a burger there once. It was ok. Nothing special. But I've heard great things about their dogs. I got a chili dog with mustard (standard Carney Dog is chili, mustard, onion, tomato) and I can confirm that the good things said about them are absolutely true. A little on the expensive side for a hot dog ($3+) but damn it was worth it. As with any chili dog I try for the first time, I judge it by eating one and seeing if I want another one. I wanted another 3 or 4.

A word of advice: don't bother getting a soda. There's something funky going on with the water they pump into the soda fountain, I think. Twice I've gotten a soda there and both times it was nearly undrinkable because of some funky taste going on. They supposedly make fresh lemonade. You could try that or see if they have bottled water (I didn't notice). Otherwise, bring your own drink.

I hit another hot dog place, so I thought I'd share.

Yesterday on my way home from work, I stopped by The Stand (the one in Encino). Despite its name, it isn't a stand. You go inside a nice place with tables and chairs and order from a counter. It's a tad bit on the expensive side. You can check out the menu and prices here.

I got a grilled beef dog with chili, cheese, and yellow mustard on a poppyseed bun. The bun was soft and warm. Good but not great. The dog was a little bigger than a normal hot dog, but not quite as big as a Costco dog. Also good but not great. There was lots of chili and cheese on it. The chili was different than what I expected. It had a good amount of meat in it and tasted good, but it wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped and didn't have enough spice for me. When I was done, I would have been down for another one, but probably would have opted for one of the smaller, cheaper places. All in all, a good place to get a dog, but not the best. If I get a chance to go back, I'll probably try one of their bigger dogs or a sausage.

There aren't too many good hot dogs out there. I tried Pink's before. . .thought it was highly overrated for the wait. Highly overrated. Wienerschnitzel's chili dogs aren't that bad, but they are just Wienerschnitzel dogs. Nothing great.
I give Costco the nod. Not just the price, but it's pretty damn good. Put a little ketchup, mustard, relish, onions. . .

The best hot dog I have ever had is when I BBQ ball park hot dogs. Fantastic.

After reading this whole thread, I'm gonna have to get me a hot dog tommorow. It has been a while. I have forgotten about them somewhat. They aren't sold at enough places.

Been craving for a good hotdog lately. Good burgers are easy to find, but a nice big juicy dog is hard.

So far I tried:

Wiener Schnitzel-Horrible horrible
The Hat -the chilli dog is not bad
Jody Maroni - the Kobe dog is not bad, but its about 7 bucks for it.

Where can I find a good big polish dog or something like it?
