*** STARTING LINE-UPS ***

PG: Derek Fisher - 16.7 PPG / 1.7 REB / 2.0 STL / 2.3 AST / 94% FT / 55% FG

vs

PG: Chris Paul - 18.7 PPG / 6.3 REB / 3.0 STL / 9.7 AST / 80% FT / 53% FG

:: Chris Paul is crazy good. One of the best point guards in the game today. His passing efficiency is through the roof and is also a very good scorer. Fisher will have trouble keeping up with this guy so he will split time with Farmar and Sasha in defending him.

----------

SG: Kobe Bryant - 31.3 PPG / 8.0 REB / 3.3 STL / 3.7 AST / 71% FT / 49% FG

vs

SG: Morris Peterson - 10.7 PPG / 1.0 REB / 0.0 STL / 1.3 AST / 57% FG

:: Not worried about this match-up at all. Kobe will always be Kobe.

----------

SF: Luke Walton - 9.0 PPG / 5.3 REB / 0.7 STL / 4.3 AST / 57% FT / 41% FG

vs

SF: Peja Stojakovic - 14.0 PPG / 3.3 REB / 0.7 STL / 1.3 AST / 36% 3PT / 39% FG

:: Peja will get quite a bit of open looks in this game. He had a horrible shooting night vs Denver but Luke is no Carmelo. Once he gets hot, it will be tough to guard him.

----------

PF: Ronny Turiaf - 8.0 PPG / 4.7 REB / 0.3 STL / 1.7 AST / 40% FT / 61% FG

vs

PF: David West - 16.0 PPG / 7.7 REB / 1.7 STL / 3.0 AST / 1.7 BLK / 42% FG

:: This will be a very physical matchup and most of the action will be inside the paint. But West can hit those mid-range jumpers as well so that's something to watch out for. Let's just hope Cook doesn't come in for Turiaf when he gets in foul trouble.

----------

C: Kwame Brown - 5.7 PPG / 7.3 REB / 1.0 STL / 1.7 AST / 1.3 BLK / 13% FT / 53% FG

vs

C: Tyson Chandler - 12.3 PPG / 13.7 REB / 1.7 BLK / 69% FG

:: Tyson Chandler is a beast and will grab a crapload of boards. We need to keep him from grabbing offensive rebounds else the 2nd chance points will kill us. Kwame will start since he will do a much better job in defending him than Bynum (at least until he improves defensively).

*** LAKERS KEY BENCH PLAYERS ***

Andrew Bynum - 11.0 PPG / 8.7 REB / 1.0 STL / 2.3 AST / 0.7 BLK / 65% FG
Vladimir Radmanovic - 14.0 PPG / 2.5 REB / 1.0 STL / 2.0 AST / 71% 3PT
Jordan Farmar - 8.0 PPG / 1.7 REB / 2.7 AST

*** LAKERS - MOST LIKELY ON THE IL ***

Lamar Odom, Coby Karl, Brian Cook (for the love of God, can Phil please put him on the IL?)

*** COMMENTS ***

Our bigs will be foul prone throughout the game so it makes sense for PJax to put all the bigs on the active roster today. We need to keep Chandler from grabbing the offensive rebounds and Peja from hitting open shots. Kobe needs to keep playing like he did the past two games and our 2nd unit needs to come out and provide a boost. Most of the Lakers scores will come from the perimeter today so let's hope everyone has the hot hands.. especially Radmanovic.

*** PREDICTION ***

Hornets: 89
Lakers: 95

Let's Go Lakers!

Great post, just as last time!

Just one comment -

Quote:

Luke is no Carmelo on offense, but defensively he really isn't all that much worse. Carmelo is actually a very poor defender for his size and athleticism.

Wow, I actually paid Luke a compliment on defense! What's the world coming to... -_-

Oh yeah!

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but we have a history of playing down to our competition with this team. This may be a tougher game than expected. Tonight may be very close. Hornets have a real chance.

Don't think you're saying anything anyone here doesn't know. The Lakers aren't an elite team, so every team has a real chance. They aren't like the Spurs or Mavs, that can say that they have an "easy" game coming. The Lakers are still trying to get to that point, and every single team we play CAN beat us.

With all that said, the Hornets aren't even a bad team to begin with. They're one of my picks for the playoffs this year, and they haven't lost a game yet. This certainly isn't a bottom-dweller we're facing.

Paul is one of my favorite players in the L.

Hornets are a pretty decent team as well. Last year they beat us WITHOUT Paul, while we were riding our hot streak.

This game does not qualify as a test of "how well do we play against the bottom-tiered teams", because the Hornets are not a bottom-tiered team.

I expect it to be close, if we play with the effort on both ends of the court that we have been, we'll get the W.

If not, well, don't sleep on the Hornets.

So I take it Phil will give Javaris some playing time? I hope he keeps Cook on the bench..or better yet back in the locker room.

Here's a list of Hornets roster and their salaries.

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_orleans.htm

Not nearly as deep and talented as the Lakers. I want to see Crittenton get about 10 minutes on Chris Paul to see how he does.

I watched them play in OKC last year.

David West killed them!

They played Kobe very well defensively.

Evans had a season high for points, so they can be scored on.

They did not have Peja or Chris Paul and Desmond Mason was their go to scorer and he cant throw it in the ocean.... and they still won.

This will not be as easy as it should be. If they play well they will smoke the Hornets, but if they play to the Hornets level, they will lose!

One thing I am keeping my eye on this season. Can the team keep up consistency? Is this the year where they finally create an identity? Are they a team that gets after other teams defensively every single night?

This team will not do much in the playoffs until they have an identity, play consistant Laker bball, and bring the D for 48 minutes every night.

Probably should add that they will need to limit turnovers as well.

**Almost forgot, Hornets are a good team that is coached well. Lakers will need to execute on both ends.**

I agree.

I'm looking for consistency on the defensive end: scrappy defense, hedging screens; proper rotations off penetration

I'd also like to see aggressiveness on offense: making the extra pass; reacting quickly if there are no open cutters; not holding the ball and stagnating the offense
