Many years ago, a columnist in the Louisville Courier-Journal wrote about a young boy who, when asked by his mother what they did in Sunday School, told her they were learning to sing a Christmas carol.

She asked him which one, and he said, "the one about that fat guy." She said, "You mean Santa Claus?" to which the boy replied, "No. Round John Virgin."

It's not even close.

Vince Guaraldi's music for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is hands down the coolest, best, most awesome, most original Christmas music ever recorded. There's not dispute . . .

Now, if one wants to get hung up on the traditionalist approach, Nat King Cole and Bing got that (bleep) wrapped up . . . but they ain't nothing next to the King of cool Christmas music - Vince Guaraldi.

Though I have to make a footnote . . . The Waitresses come in a strong second with their Christmas offering - Christmas Wrapping.
